Jotaro Kujo (空条 承太郎, Kūjō Jōtarō) is the main protagonist of the third part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Stardust Crusaders, and the third JoJo of the series. He also appears as a primary ally in Diamond is Unbreakable and Stone Ocean, and makes a brief appearance as a tertiary character in Vento Aureo. As a result of all his appearances, Jotaro is the most recurring JoJo protagonist of the series.

Jotaro is a Japanese delinquent with Japanese roots from his father's side, and half-British half-Italian roots from his mother's side. Jotaro lives an ordinary life until the Joestar Family's old nemesis, DIO, returns. After seeing his mother Holy fall ill due to DIO's reawakening, Jotaro embarks on a journey across the world alongside his grandfather, Joseph Joestar, and a group of friends in order to save his mother and defeat the Vampire once and for all.

Wielding the all-powerful Star Platinum, Jotaro is the first JoJo introduced with a Stand, and is among the most well-known characters of the series. He is the ex-husband of an American woman and father of Jolyne Cujoh, the protagonist of Stone Ocean.

Appearance

Jotaro is a 195 cm (6 ft 5 in) tall[10] and muscular man, who is often described by other characters as attractive.[15] He has dark hair that constantly blends with his hat, a strong jawline, bold eyebrows, and greenish-colored eyes.[10] He also bears a mild resemblance to his great-great-grandfather, Jonathan Joestar, and his grandfather, Joseph Joestar when he was young. The superficial theme of Jotaro's attire changes in every JoJo part that he appears in. His trademarks are a visored, ornamented cap, torn at the back and blending with his hair, and a roughly mid-calf-length coat with a standing collar and chains attached. His attire was influenced by Babel II, a famous manga of a boy in a school uniform having an adventure in a desert.[16]

In Part 3, Jotaro wears a modified trenchcoat-length gakuran/tsume-eri with a tall, stiff collar, pierced on the left with a golden chain. Underneath, he wears a fitted, sleeveless shirt and a pair of slim-fitting ¥20,000[17] pants of very short, sharp flares held up by two thin belts, often differently colored, patterned in a row of alternately colored tessellated triangles (reflecting Caesar/Joseph's headband). He also wears a pair of leather shoes (presumably) without socks.

Jotaro's iconic cap is adorned near the center with a golden button and, on its left, a rectangular golden plate with a design of a flattened hand. It is torn at the back, appearing to merge with his hair. While they are first shown as being completely separate but slightly torn, later publications cause more uncertainty as to where his hat and his hair meet. According to Araki in an interview, he wanted readers to recognize Jotaro even from his back, and not just his forefront.[18]

Araki played around with Jotaro's design until he got something that he felt conveyed just the right amount of a rebellious attitude.[19]

Diamond is Unbreakable

In Part 4, Jotaro's outfit undergoes a massive change from Stardust Crusaders, in addition to the outfit itself undergoing several transitions during Diamond is Unbreakable. Each features his trademark combination of a visored cap and a trench coat. He wears wide-legged pants, and his hat, coat, and pants are typically depicted as white.

In his first outfit, he wears a trench coat with a collar folded back and cuffs that feature the same tessellated pattern as his belts. Underneath the coat is a jumper of sorts over a stiff high-collared shirt; a buckled strap also runs diagonally across his chest. His hat has a metallic "J" emblem added to his earlier palm, now enclosed by a heart.

His second outfit, first worn during the Let's Go Hunting! story arc, features a style reminiscent of his school uniform with an upturned coat collar and a single-fitted shirt. His hat's emblems are replaced with a dolphin and sun, while his coat features a metallic emblem of two dolphins forming a heart on the right shoulder and a set square with the trademark palm symbol on the left.

His final outfit features a coat with a similar style to the second outfit but has the tessellated cuffs that were present in the first. Underneath, Jotaro wears a small, open, lapel-less waistcoat patterned with alternating circles and crosses over a black turtleneck with the palm emblem on the neck. His hat has a row of black Venus symbols (♀) with an arrow at the bottom of the cross, that way, making them resemble anchors, along with another palm emblem. His two belts are no longer patterned, but the bottom has a small pouch attached to it, also sporting the palm emblem.

In Part 5, Jotaro maintains his classic hat in the same light color now with a noticeably much larger rip at the back of his hat, resulting in an even more unnatural blend of his hair and hat. A circular pendant with the iconic hand symbol frequently shown on his hat is seen attached to a belt that seemingly wraps around, comes from within the hat, and ends at the metallic lining of his visor.

His light coat appears much more form-fitting with its large collars adorned with metallic "J" symbols. It has rounded diagonal slits across the sides and only the top button is buttoned. Underneath Jotaro's coat is a dark turtleneck shirt with another hand symbol on his neck. The shirt displays two bright stripes intersecting with each other and his sleeves are rolled up. Jotaro's two vibrant belts are worn orderly and he has long pant legs appearing slightly pushed up above his shoes.

Stone Ocean

In Part 6, Jotaro again wears a dark overcoat; this time of more detail. Lines ring the top and the base of his collar; joining to run the length of the coat's opening. The surface of his collar bears two-star pins, with one on the inside, along with a small chain piercing the left. Two lines run the top of the shoulders, with two more radiating from his collar to their sides. Two zips lie between the chest and the stomach. The sides of the shoulders bear large stars, beginning a light stripe reaching his cuffs (also bearing a star) that reads "JOJO", repeatedly. A line runs from the armpit to the end of the coat.

He wears a light under-shirt, printed at the chest with a large star. His shoes and pants are of a piece in a snakeskin texture. He wears a single leather belt, studded in two rows, folded behind itself after the buckle.

Jotaro's torn, blending cap is also again dark. The visor is square, with a subtle arch. A light gold bar at its joint maintains a gold palm emblem like his original. Two lines run the top of the visor, while a widened star spans the front of the crown, its topmost point running onto the top.

Jotaro is introduced as a rough, violent delinquent, but he has a gentle heart and is loyal to those he likes. He is highly perceptive, intelligent, and quick-witted while keeping a perpetually cool, slightly neutral, or disinterested attitude. He has a habit of muttering "Gimme a break..." (やれやれだぜ, Yare Yare Daze) to himself to express annoyance toward the ordeals and other events that happen close to him, to the point it has become his signature catchphrase.

Hirohiko Araki was inspired by Clint Eastwood when creating Jotaro. Like Eastwood in some films, Jotaro doesn't run, his movements are minimal, and he's a quiet individual.[20] Jotaro's trademark pose where he points his finger was inspired by Eastwood pointing his .44 Magnum and Jotaro's catchphrase was also inspired by lines that Eastwood had in some roles.[19]

Jotaro's most noticeable trait is his seemingly aloof nature. He is often satisfied with expressing himself in short phrases. He thinks anyone can tell his emotions just by looking at him, and believes that further effort in portraying how he feels would be a waste of time, making others tend to perceive Jotaro as callous.[10] Related to this, Jotaro is an extremely cool individual, able to keep his composure even in the direst situations. Against Daniel J. D'Arby, Jotaro plays a dangerous game of poker, where he doesn't look at his cards, yet wagers the souls of himself, his allies, and his mother, successfully bluffing the expert poker player into folding.[21] While he is shown to be mildly anxious when something unanticipated happens, Jotaro rarely goes as far as to lose his composure.

Jotaro is both fierce and gentle, showing these traits in various scenes, from the fight with N'Doul to the encounter with the D'Arby Brothers. One shining example is how he spares Noriaki Kakyoin instead of killing him outright, even putting his own life on the line just to save the young man from DIO's deadly slavery. Despite refusing to show it explicitly, Jotaro loves his mother and respects his grandfather Joseph. Jotaro's impetus for going to Egypt is Holy's life being put in danger by the Stand she awakened from DIO,[22] and he flies into an uncharacteristic rage when the vampire desecrates the corpse of his grandfather, before apologizing to Joseph's spirit (who had previously warned Jotaro not to succumb to anger).[23]

During his journey to Egypt, Jotaro attaches himself to his companions, and through several small gestures, expresses his friendship towards them, culminating with a hug with a departing Polnareff.[24] Signs of him loosening up are also shown where he occasionally smiles, such as when the group makes fun of ZZ, and at one point he even laughs alongside Kakyoin and Polnareff upon discovering Sun's weakness.[25] Jotaro also has a soft spot for children and is noticeably more tolerant and protective toward them. When Merlai Anne accompanies them on his journey, he never yells at her, protects her from enemy Stand users, and also similarly watches over her to an older brother despite being visibly annoyed by her antics. When he takes an ice pop from a young boy, he tells the boy that he will buy him a new one.[26]

Jotaro hates people who hurt women or children in a fight, even if the woman or child in question is evil, and will be especially violent toward them;[27][28] one example of this is his long beating of Steely Dan, which was partially motivated by Steely Dan killing Enya the Hag, and him trying to use a little girl as a hostage when he was nearly defeated. However, Jotaro doesn't show mercy to evil women and will if need be severely beat them, such as when Midler attacks him and he busts her teeth through her Stand.[29] Furthermore, nagging girls chasing him (both at his school and throughout his journey) annoy Jotaro, who ignores or rudely drives them away, particularly when they begin to fuss or bicker.[30]

Moreover, Jotaro is blunt and foul-mouthed, having no problem being insolent towards his mother or any other authority figure.[6] The teenager favors witty one-liners, often ridiculing whoever is the target of his quips and offering absurd reasons for his feats. For instance, he takes the time to tell DIO that the reason he lost was that the vampire "pissed him off".[31] Nonetheless, Jotaro has shown a modicum of respect to the occasional enemy Stand user, praising N'Doul for having been formidable enough to manage to knock his hat off his head and commit suicide to help DIO, then listening to his speech about his devotion and finally burying his corpse in the desert.[32] He also notes how Daniel J. D'Arby is dangerous and compares him favorably to Telence, stating that Daniel would have spotted an obvious ploy that tricked Telence.[33]

Jotaro is interested in a large range of subjects, such as sumo or the TV series Columbo, from which he claims to have acquired his deductive skills.[34] Several hobbies indicate that he has an intellectual side, which would result in him becoming an oceanographer by Part 6. Jotaro is one of the few among the Joestar Group who appreciates Calcutta's atmosphere, which shocks Joseph.

Jotaro also has a quirky and particular fashion sense, along with a strong attachment to his clothes. This is shown when he refuses to cut parts of his pants at the school nurse's request,[28] and later buys exact replicas of the clothes destroyed in his fight with ZZ, as Joseph points out.[35] When he first trades blows with DIO, he specifically points out how the fight tore a hole in his very expensive pants.[36] He also has an attachment to his hat.

Araki stated that Jotaro fits his image of a hero to a tee, being a loner and an unappreciated symbol of justice. He doesn't bother with making friends and does the right thing without looking for compensation or attention from others.[19]

Diamond is Unbreakable

In Diamond is Unbreakable, Jotaro becomes the leader and mentor of Josuke Higashikata and his allies, as well as a person they could rally behind. Koichi and Josuke comment that his company is calming to them, concerning the consistent threat exerted by emerging Stand users. Having matured, Jotaro isn't as foul-mouthed as he used to be, although he is still blunt and retains his annoyance towards girls making a fuss.[37] Despite that, he is still merciless to those who anger him and is said to be scary by Koichi due to how quiet he is.[38]

Although his aloofness is still present, it has diminished somewhat over the years; meeting Tomoko Higashikata whilst looking for Josuke shortly after her father is killed by Anjuro, he tolerates her sudden clinginess when she mistakes him for Joseph, and offers some consolation for her father's death.[39] He also admits to Koichi that he is glad that they met, albeit he says it privately while time is stopped.[40]

Stone Ocean

In Stone Ocean, Jotaro displays his typical serious attitude, but this is also paired with a passionate paternal protectiveness for his daughter Jolyne. Although his past neglect for her and his wife worsened their relationship, Jotaro reveals to his daughter that he's always loved and cherished her, showing her that the pendant he gave her has a transmitter in it so that he could always know whether she's safe. Consequently, Jolyne is motivated throughout her adventure to defeat Whitesnake and reclaim her father's DISCs.[41]

After he is "revived", Narciso Anasui, one of Jolyne's companions who is enthralled by her, asks Jotaro to approve his proposal to marry. He initially reacts as though Anasui spoke meaninglessly, but when Jotaro sees Jolyne lean against Anasui's chest, Jotaro protectively pulls Jolyne into his arms, leaving Jolyne clueless as to their interaction.[42]

During the final fight against Enrico Pucci, Jotaro's love for his family costs him both his own life and the safety of his universe as he throws away a chance to attack Pucci to save his daughter, Jolyne, from being murdered by a large volley of knives thrown directly at her neck.[43]

Stand

Star Platinum

Main article: Star Platinum

One of the strongest Stands in the series, Star Platinum possesses superhuman senses, strength, stamina, accuracy, and speed. Like other physically powerful (or Close-Range) Stands, Star Platinum suffers from a narrow effective range of 2 meters, outside which its strength and speed decrease dramatically.

It is the same type of Stand as to DIO's The World, and, as it turns out, can likewise be used to stop time, as revealed at the very end of his fight with DIO.

Star Platinum: The World

During the final battle with DIO, Star Platinum awakens the ability to stop time.

This is the highest form in which Jotaro is shown to develop his Stand. Star Platinum: The World can stop time for as long as 5 seconds. Its duration tends to fluctuate based on consistency of usage.[37]

Mastery

Jotaro's natural battle sense and flexible thinking make him extremely proficient at using his Stand, which is facilitated by how powerful it is in the first place. At its most basic usage, Star Platinum will punch through almost any obstacle Jotaro encounters, but he can also be very imaginative when applying its physical prowess, such as stretching Star Platinum's limbs for extra range or using its lungs to neutralize Justice.

Jotaro frequently exploits his Stand's superhuman attributes to augment his capabilities. He can use Star Platinum's enhanced eyesight to see far-away objects himself and, much like other Stand users, can block attacks aimed at him with his Stand. Jotaro will often defend himself by channeling Star Platinum from inside his body, which also allows him to use its enhanced strength to launch himself into the air. This jumping technique is introduced during the fight with N'Doul, and utilized throughout Jotaro's final face-off with DIO. He is also shown floating in the air while facing DIO, though it's unclear if this is an exaggeration of the aforementioned jumping technique or an actual ability to fly.

Due to its short duration, Jotaro only stops time with parsimony. He mainly uses it for defense, utilizing the extra time to defend an ally or avoid attacks, and has only occasionally used time stop for offense.

As a part of the Joestar Family, Jotaro bears the Star Birthmark and a connection to the supernatural. According to Avdol, the bond shared between DIO and the Joestar family has awakened their spiritual power. In Jotaro's case, he developed Star Platinum and is capable of sensing DIO's presence.[44]

Later, in Stone Ocean, Jotaro and his daughter, Jolyne, share a particularly strong connection. Notably, a wound Jotaro carves into his arm appears on Jolyne's. When Enrico Pucci bears the Birthmark, Jotaro is capable of sensing his presence much like DIO decades prior.


Personal Skills

  • Intelligence: Jotaro is an adept tactician, using a mix of straightforward brute force and unexpected tricks to prevail. Thanks to Star Platinum's tremendous strength, Jotaro can either force his way out of any tough situation or use unexpected feats of strength such as tunneling his way toward an enemy or using his lung capacity to neutralize a fog Stand. Jotaro has occasionally used the environment to his advantage, filling his clothes with thick books when expecting DIO to use projectiles against him, or taking full advantage of The Fool's glider to approach N'Doul.

The years have only increased his wits, and in Parts 4 and 6, Jotaro demonstrates a methodical and vigilant sense of observation, watching his environment to anticipate the enemy's moves and attacks, and having a good grasp of the general mechanics of Stands to better identify a Stand's weaknesses.

Jotaro is notably good at psychological warfare and using calm judgment in dire situations. He is an accomplished bluffer, capable of using his adversary's vigilance against the formidable Star Platinum to psych them out, demonstrated when he forced D'Arby to fold in a game of poker he had all but won or tricked DIO into underestimating Star Platinum's ability to move in the stopped time. He also provoked Forever into entering the range of Star Platinum to defeat him.

  • Knowledge: It is implied that Jotaro has accumulated a considerable amount of varied knowledge. At the beginning of Part 3, in his cell, to understand his Stand, he had collected several books on the theme of the paranormal. In Part 4, it is revealed that he specialized in Ocean Exploration; and he briefs Josuke skillfully for the task of hunting two Stand-wielding rats. In Part 6, Jotaro can discern the exact kind of bone Emporio gave Jolyne just by looking at it.
  • Strength: While not nearing the levels of superhuman strength possessed by his Stand, Jotaro himself is still notably strong, and has been for a long time; even when de-aged by Sethan, he was able to deliver a painful punch against a full-grown man. He is also shown to have a high pain tolerance, having Star Platinum be punched in the face by The World and not flinching. Moreover, he slammed onto the pavement after being stabbed with knives was punched several times by The World, and kicked into a sign, breaking several bones.
  • Toughness: Jotaro is naturally confident and intolerant to suggestions that he should defer in any way, backed up by his strength as well as that of his Stand.
  • Cigarette Trick: Jotaro is supposedly able to hold up to five lit cigarettes in his mouth, lit side inwards, and drink juice without putting them out. Oingo failed to replicate this technique. However, this trick could be false.
  • Bluffing: During both the Telence T. D'Arby and Daniel J. D'Arby arcs, Jotaro won through an impressive ability to bluff, as seen by his refusal to look at his cards when playing poker with D'Arby the Elder, and having the confidence to rely on Joseph Joestar to pick up on his signal by announcing his pitch against D'Arby the Younger.

Secret Technique

The Joestar family's "Secret Technique", running away, is usually utilized as a last resort. It is used by Jotaro in the series during his fight against Rubber Soul.[26]

Relationships

Jotaro's relationship with people is usually straight forward, due to his type of personality. He usually tends to keep his emotions to himself, as he believes people can read his emotions simply by observing him. Simply put, if anyone hasn't made him angry, he is usually satisfied with those around him.

  • Jolyne Cujoh: Jotaro's only child. Jotaro, due to his many excursions, was an absentee father for much of Jolyne's childhood and well into her adolescence. As such, she grew to resent him though at times also craving his attention. His divorce only made matters worse, Jolyne practically disowning him and refusing to mention him until he visited her in prison. Jotaro, however, greatly cherished Jolyne, taking her safety above all else during Stone Ocean and being fully aware of his failures as a father. Eventually, they began to patch their relationship up, Jolyne finally understanding why Jotaro was absent constantly and what exactly he was fighting for. In the fight against Pucci and Made in Heaven, his love for his daughter gets the best of him as he tries to save her from several knives while simultaneously killing Pucci. In his final moments, his daughter mentions how she always knew he'd come to save her.
  • Jotaro's Wife: Jotaro's Ex-Wife. While not a lot is specified about her and Jotaro's relationship, it seems he cared for her to the point of keeping his distance from her and Jolyne to protect them from the many dangers he faced.
  • Joseph Joestar: Jotaro doesn't usually share his grandfather's humor, and the two have very different personalities. Despite their differences, they seem to get along fairly well and can share a laugh or two once in a while, and they were able to bond much more during their travel to Egypt to save Holy. When Joseph was infected by Steely Dan's Lovers, Jotaro allowed himself to be humiliated to protect Joseph from Steely Dan and repaid his enemy a thousandfold. They were able to work well together against Telence D'Arby purely through shared familial intuition, and when DIO desecrated Joseph's corpse, Jotaro was enraged enough to attack DIO head-on despite knowing the serious risk. While he was annoyed about Joseph's affair with Josuke's mother, he still cared for his grandfather, especially in his advanced age, and decided to protect Josuke's mother in place of Joseph, showing his respect for Joseph's feelings. He also showed a rare smile when he saw Josuke and Joseph getting along.
  • Suzi Q: Although they've never communicated in the manga, the anime included a scene of Jotaro talking to his grandmother on the phone. He respects her and assures her that there's nothing to worry about when Joseph can't talk to her. Suzi stated that she was really happy to hear her grandson's voice after so long. She's heard that Jotaro became wild lately but she knows deep down that he's a sweet child who truly cares for his family.
  • Josuke Higashikata: The two have a mentor-protégé relationship. Although Josuke is younger than him, Jotaro is his nephew. When they first met, Josuke had assaulted Jotaro for mentioning his hair in a negative tone (despite Jotaro not intending to insult Josuke), but as the series progressed, the two became allies and have helped each other out several times against the various enemy Stands appearing in Morioh. Jotaro respects Josuke's ability and gentleness while being annoyed by his temper, and fully trusts him during their fight against Bug-Eaten.
  • Sadao Kujo: As a famous jazz musician, Sadao left his family to go on tour and has never actually been seen in the series. It is unknown as to how long he has been gone, but there hasn't been any indication that Jotaro holds a grudge against him for this.
  • Holy Kujo:
    Despite his attitude, Jotaro shows concern for Holy's well-being
    As Jotaro's mother, Jotaro greatly cares for her. In his childhood, Jotaro loved to play ball with her, but at his current age, his attitude has changed up to the point where he rebukes her affection, calls her annoying, and casually insults her. Regardless, the two take care of each other, and Holy is unfazed by Jotaro's rough exterior as she knows his true feelings. When she had fallen ill due to her Stand taking over her body, Jotaro had asked Joseph what they had to do to cure her. It was because he was concerned for his mother's life that he set off to Egypt to fight DIO.
  • Giorno Giovanna: While they have never formally met, Jotaro investigated Giorno due to his connections to both DIO and the Joestar family. Having found out about Giorno's relationship with DIO, Jotaro avoided meeting him in person and trusted Koichi to judge him in his stead.

Friends

  • Muhammad Avdol: His first initial meeting with Avdol was not very friendly, but after Jotaro begins to truly understand Star Platinum and Stands, they quickly become allies. During the journey Avdol takes the role of the mentor, providing the rest of the group information on enemies such as Gray Fly, Devo the Cursed, and Midler. Jotaro would later mourn his death with Polnareff and Joseph.
  • Noriaki Kakyoin: Like with Avdol, Jotaro's relationship with Kakyoin begins with a fight. After defeating him, Jotaro takes Kakyoin to his house to remove DIO's flesh bud and release him from DIO's control. Jotaro and Kakyoin later develop a strong friendship, discovering a mutual interest in sumo, and Kakyoin being one of the few people Jotaro smiles at. Kakyoin sacrificed his life to give Jotaro an advantage against Dio and Jotaro mourns his death along with Joseph and Polnareff. In the JOJONIUM special interviews, Araki comments that without their power, Jotaro and Kakyoin probably wouldn't have become friends.
  • Jean Pierre Polnareff: After joining the group during their journey to Egypt, Polnareff gradually becomes good friends with everyone. Jotaro becomes friendlier with Polnareff, having no problem teaming up with him, and displaying his friendship openly with him. Jotaro also respects Polnareff as a fighter, commenting that his Silver Chariot Star Platinum can hold back against when Anubis possesses Polnareff. At the end of part 3, Joseph and Polnareff along with Jotaro mourn for the loss of their friends. Before going their separate ways, the group embraces one last time; promising to meet each other again sometime in the future. Jotaro's only comment to Polnareff was a friendly insult, mentioning that he'd never be able to forget his ugly face.
  • Merlai Anne: Jotaro treated the runaway girl as a burden and annoyance, but kept protecting her from enemies such as fake Captain Tennile and Forever. Anne had a crush on Jotaro because he was handsome.
  • Iggy: Jotaro meets Iggy prior the fight with N'Doul, but their relationship begins badly as Iggy is uncooperative in the fight and Jotaro throws him into N'Doul. As revenge, Iggy pranks Jotaro. Iggy, although not vocal about it, is a very prideful stand user, even believing that The Fool is stronger than Star Platinum. After the battle with DIO, Jotaro and Joseph acknowledge his death, alongside the other fallen crusaders.
  • Koichi Hirose: After witnessing Koichi's bravery during the events in Morioh, particularly fighting Kira's Sheer Heart Attack while Jotaro was unconscious, he has come to respect and trust him a lot. This bond later influences Jotaro to choose him to investigate Giorno Giovanna for his bloodline link with both the Joestars and DIO.
  • Okuyasu Nijimura: Although the two had little interaction, Okuyasu seems to see Jotaro as a mentor figure. However, he does ignore Jotaro's advice and goes after Red Hot Chili Pepper on his own. Jotaro is exasperated by his temper and lack of intelligence but sees him as an ally nonetheless.
  • Rohan Kishibe: Jotaro and Rohan are allies in the battle against Yoshikage Kira. Rohan states that the two aren't close[45] but they seem to have mutual respect for each other, as Rohan has Jotaro's phone number in his phone book.[46] Rohan also tries heading to Morioh Grand Hotel thinking Jotaro could help him deal with Cheap Trick.[45]

Enemies

  • DIO: Before their meeting, but having heard of each other, DIO and Jotaro were enemies. While DIO simply thought of Jotaro as a powerful Stand user, Jotaro didn't think much of the former but was at least intrigued that he was charismatic enough to gain the loyalty of other powerful Stand users like N'Doul. During their clash, DIO viewed Jotaro as much of a threat as Jonathan was, if not more, going to extremes to outwit and ensure his death. While Jonathan was an opponent DIO respected, Jotaro was an opponent DIO feared because Jotaro could move in the stopped time. After DIO had "killed" his grandfather, Joseph, right in front of him, Jotaro's hatred for DIO intensified to where, for the first time, Jotaro was visibly enraged and acted in anger. After a short but grueling fight with the Vampire, Jotaro finally managed to outwit and kill DIO. His battle with him affected Jotaro so much, that he nearly attacked the fully revived Joseph when he jokingly claimed to be DIO possessing his body.
  • Enrico Pucci: Pucci harbored a grudge against Jotaro for having killed DIO. However, Jotaro was unaware of Pucci's existence until the end of Stone Ocean. Pucci took his revenge by stealing both Jotaro's memories and Stand to let his corpse rot away, but knew he was a dangerous Stand user, thus took every precaution against him. Pucci ultimately killed Jotaro in Florida.
  • Yoshikage Kira: The first time Jotaro encounters Kira is near the Centipede shoe shop after Jotaro was heavily wounded by Sheer Heart Attack. Kira underestimated Jotaro due to the poor state he was in, only to get pummeled by Star Platinum for his trouble. Kira noted how dangerous Jotaro was and took care to avoid confronting him again.
  • Daniel J. D'Arby: Daniel J. D'Arby's combination of skill in gambling and Stand power managed to impress Jotaro, even making him nervous at points. Jotaro went as far as saying that D'Arby was the most dangerous Stand user they've met yet. Through a combination of intimidation and sheer luck, Jotaro managed to bluff D'Arby and send him into shock. After meeting Daniel's brother Telence, Jotaro acknowledges Daniel as the superior gambler, stating that Daniel would have seen through the trick he used against Telence.
  • N'Doul: While the two were enemies, Jotaro grew to respect N'Doul as a fighter during their fight, noting that N'Doul managed to knock away his hat, an impressive feat according to Jotaro. Jotaro was impressed by N'Doul's loyalty to DIO and buried him out of respect when he died.
  • Steely Dan: Because Steely Dan killed Enya, an old albeit powerful woman in cold blood, and then used his temporary position of power to continuously humiliate Jotaro, the latter developed a great grudge toward Steely Dan. When Steely Dan took a child hostage, Jotaro, not only content from breaking his limbs, delivered a particularly brutal pummeling as revenge.
  • Anubis: Jotaro comments that Anubis, a Stand relying on a simple powerful ability, notably a speed that rivaled that of Star Platinum, instead of a trick made it particularly dangerous. Anubis attempted to kill Jotaro several times with several host bodies including Polnareff. Jotaro smashed Anubis in half. Anubis possessed a child and attempted to stab Jotaro before Iggy tripped him.
  • Enya: Jotaro was one of Enya's primary targets as he was one of the most powerful Stand users opposing her master DIO, yet she was wary of Jotaro's power and intellect. For his part, Jotaro didn't think much of Enya. Jotaro was still shocked when he saw Enya dying on DIO's order yet remaining loyal.
  • Anjuro Katagiri: Due to his attempted murder of Josuke's mother and the successful murder of his grandfather, Anjuro was an enemy of Jotaro's. Anjuro, being a notoriously brutal murderer and recent Stand user, disgusted Jotaro and was one of the reasons Jotaro personally went to Morioh to stop him.
  • Akira Otoishi: Because Jotaro was investigating Stand users, Otoishi saw him as a threat and tried to kill him. When Josuke got in his way, Otoishi decided to kill Joseph instead, only to be stopped by Okuyasu. When Otoishi is arrested, Jotaro threatens to hunt him down if he escapes from prison. Jotaro would later interrogate Otoishi, who would reveal he shot a rat with the Arrow (but hid that he shot 2 rats, Bug-Eaten and Not Bug-Eaten).
  • Johngalli A.: Johngalli A. bore a grudge against Jotaro for having killed DIO. While there is little interaction between the two, the fact he framed Jolyne for murder and attempted to kill her and him made them enemies.

  • Araki stated that Jotaro has become big enough to function as a synonym for JoJo as a whole. He based subsequent JoJo's on Jotaro's visual design and differentiated them from there.[19]
  • In Araki's top ten favorite characters in 2000, Jotaro ranked in 8th place.[47]
  • Jotaro's appreciation of the TV series Columbo originates from Araki's own love for the series, as he loved the differing perspectives it gave him on what is "really correct" in the world.[48]

Naturally, Jotaro is the main protagonist of the Part 3 OVA, serving the same role as ever. That said there are a number of differences.

Notably, Jotaro's victory over Forever is instead given mostly to Polnareff, who slices the orangutan in half before the latter could use his Stand to crush Jotaro.

Whilst the 1993 episodes also keep Jotaro's role intact, he is instead made the victim of DIO's brief time manipulation when Jotaro tries to climb a set of stairs (Polnareff was the victim in the manga.) Jotaro is then sent flying out of the mansion by DIO (in the manga, Jotaro escaped the mansion of his own accord along with the others when they suspected an ambush from DIO.)

In the penultimate episode "Kakyoin: Duel in the Barrier", a scene is added where Jotaro briefly ruminates on DIO's power and how his World Stand and Star Platinum seem similar in nature.

The final episode recreates the final battle between Jotaro and DIO accurately, albeit with some changes, such as removing Jotaro's magnet trick as well as changing the Jump magazines that save him from DIO's knives into wooden splints that he put on his broken ribs beforehand. The final scene in the battle is significantly different. In the manga, DIO brings down a steam roller to crush Jotaro, but Jotaro stops time to and climbs atop said steam roller to confront DIO who is trapped and left standing. This scene was changed to DIO using a tanker that he pummels until it explodes as he leaps off to escape, with Jotaro stopping time and walking out of the flames towards DIO, who is now on the ground instead of the would-be steam roller.

Jotaro (circa Part 3) is one of the seven main heroes. His standard attack is a Kick, which can only be used at short-range, and for armor he wears his usual gakuran uniform. For his special attack, he summons Star Platinum and is able to hit distant enemies. Unlike the rest of the heroes, who gain their special attack at level 2, Jotaro is able to use Star Platinum from the start of the game. The final boss of his scenario is an unidentified Stand user mentioned only as "Stand Messenger ".


Jotaro appears in the Stardust Crusaders SNES game, simply titled JoJo's Bizarre Adventure as a note to the game's status as the very first in the series. As the story plays out similarly to Part 3 with a handful of notable differences, the game begins at his household and ends with the final battle against DIO. Jotaro is usually the default on-screen character when out of battles. Most of Jotaro's moves revolve around Star Platinum's "ORAORAORA!" fist barrage, although Star Finger is also used. In this game, Jotaro's time stop ability is a result of the player obtaining and equipping a special cap item on Jotaro as opposed to being an innate ability of Star Platinum.


Jotaro appears as the representative protagonist from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise in the game.

Jotaro's gameplay is more oriented on offense. He is a lot more effective with his Stand off. This is because of his Blazing Fists, and Jotaro's ability to attack the enemy by himself, while the Stand is attacking. This, in turn, increases the hits and the damage in comparison to attacks with the Stand activated.

As such, his gameplay is more on poking the enemy until they budge. Jotaro players are known to be very pesky and can push the fight to either side of the field in a short amount of time, but their nature of gameplay requires prioritizing offense over defense to take advantage of the strength from his Blazing Fists.

His Star Finger can be held until an opening is seen at the enemy. It draws the enemy closer, which can be capitalized for further offense.

Also, the inactive Stand version of Puttsun Ora may not deal that much damage in comparison to the active Stand version by itself, but when the player attacks with Jotaro going around the enemy, the hits and damage become significantly larger than the latter version.

Star Breaker can connect from a normal attack, whether from Jotaro himself or from his Stand, but its inactive version is not very strong. The active Stand version can be charged until it becomes unblockable, but takes too much charging time to be very effective.

Jotaro's "Time Stop" isn't as powerful as DIO's, and with the attack speed from Puttsun Ora, players are often forced to perform the move before the super meter is depleted of one level during stopped time. If Star Platinum is not deployed while attacking, using inactive versions of its attacks, the Time Stop will also dismiss even if the Stand is still attacking, as opposed to DIO's who will only dismiss the time stop after the attack.

Jotaro can also usurp DIO's time stop if his own timestop command is inputted in the right moment.

Jotaro is normally the last opponent faced by the player in arcade mode when playing as a villain, if not DIO himself or even Kakyoin.

Jotaro, Polnareff and Joseph are the only characters whose ending in Arcade Mode matches the original story; the rest of the roster receive unique endings.


Part 4 Jotaro appears in the game's intro along with Jonathan, Josuke and Part 3 Joseph in a composite image along with Giorno. This game marks the first time that Jotaro is seen as his Part 4 incarnation.

Jotaro and DIO appear as the playable representative characters from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise.

Jotaro's special attacks consists primarily of his trademark "ORAORAORA!" punches. Many of his Koma include his companions from Part 3, appearing frequently as he performs special attacks. His 4-Koma specials summons Avdol to use Magician's Red's Crossfire Hurricane Special, along with a two-sided barrage from Star Platinum, his 5-Koma specials include him and Polnareff attacking the enemy at the same time as Star Platinum and Silver Chariot cry "ORAORAORA!" and "HORAHORAHORA!" respectively, and Kakyoin and Hierophant Green being summoned to perform an Emerald Splash projectile attack. His 6-Koma specials include stopping time (stopping any movement on-screen for 5 seconds or by the amount of the special bar the player has at the moment) and a lengthy barrage by Star Platinum that sends the opponent flying high and far. Iggy appears as his 2-Koma support, where Jotaro uses Star Platinum to throw Iggy at the enemy, who defends himself by summoning The Fool.

His help Koma gives the affected battle character invincibility for a short time. He is one of the battle characters in the pre-made deck "Gekitou no Machi" and the sole battle character in the pre-made "Help-Koma" deck. Together with Monkey D. Luffy from the One Piece series, he can be summoned to perform a special tag-team move called "Gomu Gomu no Ora Ora" (ゴムゴムのオラオラ, lit. "Rubber Rubber ORAORA") in which they both unleash a barrage of punches.

Jotaro returns as a playable character, along with DIO, once again representing the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise. He retains all of his previous attacks and special moves.

Jotaro can now receive an ally boost from Josuke Higashikata, by saying he and Jotaro are a great team even in taro terms (two references, one being Josuke's catchprase "Great!", while the other being the taro terms, almost every Stands in Part 3 (Jotaro's part) were based on 'tarot' cards), Jolyne Cujoh, by saying she will watch the stars until she meets him and wants to see his starlight (Jolyne said those lines during later Part 6 events) and Yusuke Urameshi (from the series Yu*Yu*Hakusho), by saying "the more fights, the more wins!" (since both Jotaro and Yusuke are introduced as delinquents who constantly beat other students.

Jotaro also appears in one of the pre-made decks centered around "delinquents" such as Yusuke Urameshi, Maeda Taison (from the Rokudenashi Blues franchise) and Sakuragi Hanamichi (from the Slam Dunk franchise).


Jotaro was one of the first four characters announced for the game (the others being Gyro Zeppeli, Wamuu, and Joseph Joestar) and the first character to appear in the game's first trailer (aside from Rohan, who was meant to draw Jotaro's introduction but was otherwise not a shown in-game fighter).

Most of his attacks are similar to those from the Capcom game (Heritage for the Future). As one of the mass majority of playable characters in the game with the "Stand" Style, Jotaro can turn Star Platinum on/off, changing movesets, as well as having access to the Stand Rush ability returning from the Capcom game, being able to attack in conjunction with his Stand.

This is also the first piece of JoJo media to feature Daisuke Ono as Jotaro's Japanese voice actor, replacing all of his other voices prior.

During a fight, Jotaro can use several different attacks that were featured in Stardust Crusaders.

  • Throw - This incredible power...!: Star Platinum picks the opponent up, before spinning and throwing them into the ground.

While Star Platinum is off:

  • Back off.: Jotaro steps forward delivers a kick to the opponent's leg. This skill is a low attack that cannot be blocked if the opponent is not crouching. Jotaro's skills can be performed instantly following this move. (Comboable)
  • ORA, ORA! (Normal): Star Platinum is summoned to unleash a barrage of punches, sending the opponent flying on the final hit. This ability can initiate Rush Mode. (Comboable through Puttsun Cancel)
  • Here's your receipt!: Star Platinum is summoned to unleash an upward barrage of punches, sending the opponent flying far on the final hit. This move doubles as an anti-air.
  • My STAND will be the judge!: Star Platinum is summoned to fly at the opponent and grab them. If Star Platinum connects, it will pick the opponent up with one hand and pummel their face with the other before uppercutting them away.

While Star Platinum is on:

  • ORAAAA!: Star Platinum swings downward to knock the opponent to the ground. Jotaro's skills can be performed instantly following this move, though may only connect during "I stopped time...".
  • ORA, ORA! (Stand): Star Platinum unleashes a barrage of punches. This ability can initiate Rush Mode. This move has a follow-up. (Comboable through Puttsun Cancel)
    • ORAAA!: Star Platinum slightly extends its barrage before briefly pulling back and returning to deliver a single punch that sends the opponent into the stage wall.
  • Star Finger: After a delay, Star Platinum shoots its fingers out to pierce the opponent, knocking them into the air. This attack is unblockable. A Stand Rush skill that Jotaro can disconnect from to attack the opponent while it is executing. (Comboable through Puttsun Cancel)
  • Beat in a single breath!: After a delay, Star Platinum inhales with great strength to pull the opponent in, giving Jotaro the chance to attack first. This move can be 'blocked', but the pull effect is not nullified. A Stand Rush skill that Jotaro can disconnect from to attack the opponent while it is executing. (Comboable through Puttsun Cancel)

If Jotaro has at least two stocks of the Heart Heat Gauge, he can use the ability "I stopped time..." in order to stop time for 4.6 - 6.9 seconds depending on how much of the HHG he has. All animations, including the HHG flame and the countdown on the battle timer, will temporarily cease, and the opponent in frozen in place and unable to move. Damage dealt to the opponent that is not a Throw, "My STAND will be the judge!", HHA, or GHA is reduced, but they are otherwise completely at Jotaro's mercy. Jotaro is even capable of hitting opponents that were down when the ability was activated, 'resetting' them into a standing position on the first hit. He may even use his HHA or GHA if he has enough of the HHG left to do so. If Jotaro's Throw or "My STAND will be the judge!" is used, the time stop will immediately end with the HHG drained to zero. When the ability ends, the opponent will suffer all damage dealt to them at once. If fighting against DIO or himself, Jotaro can use this ability to move within the other fighter's stopped time, and may even be the only one left moving should his opponent run out first. The ability is best used with normal attacks in mind in order to deal the most damage within the stopped time, as they do not take long to perform and their damage reduction is insubstantial.

Jotaro's HHA is "ORA ORA ORA ORA!", his signature flurry of punches that lasts around 2–5 seconds, dependent on whether or not the attack button is rapidly pressed, ending in either a punch that sends the opponent flying (without input), or an uppercut that knocks them high into the air (with successful input); If done during "I stopped time...", the opponent will fly upward upon resume, allowing for one more attack to fit. The HHA does not require an initial hit to connect in order to work, and will not stop until it finishes or Jotaro is interrupted.

Jotaro's GHA is "You pissed me off.", wherein Star Platinum flies at the opponent to deliver a powerful punch. If it hits, they're knocked off their feet before Jotaro stops time. Star Platinum follows up by unleashing an incredible amount of punches on the now-defenseless enemy before one final hook to the abdomen for total of 114 hits. Jotaro points at them and remarks that they pissed him off, before resuming time and letting the opponent fly.

Jotaro is also the only character who can counter DIO's GHA, "It's a steam roller!". When the attack hits Jotaro, he will attempt to retaliate with his own "ORAORAORA" barrage. At some point during the animation, if Jotaro activates "I stopped time..." (still needing 2 stocks of the HHG to perform), a new animation will begin, recreating the moment Jotaro stopped time to take DIO by surprise. Though the damage from DIO pummeling the steam roller is normal and unavoidable, the damage of the explosion, which makes up more than half of the GHA's total damage, is completely negated.

Jotaro also possesses alternate costumes, primarily taken from famous volume covers along with the ones seen in JOJO-A-GOGO! and JOJO 6251.

Besides most of the characters from Part 3, Jotaro has unique dialogue with characters such as Jolyne and Josuke. Josuke is confused looking at the younger Part 3 Jotaro in the place of the older Part 4 incarnation he recognizes, while Jotaro has no idea who Josuke is. Against Jolyne, Jotaro merely asks if she's a new Stand user (referencing the nature of Part 3 where Jotaro and his friends face off against countless Stand users sent to kill them on their journey). In return, Jolyne shockingly questions how he could have become so young.

Jotaro is one of the first 3 available characters the player must choose to be their team leader (next to Jonathan and Joseph). During the Loading screen, if the player taps the screen, Star Platinum's fist will appear and strike the screen, with the "ORA" (オラ) kana appearing.

Jotaro's Finish move is an animation where Star Platinum appears and uses an "ORAORA!" barrage on the defeated Metal Striker.

To match Jotaro's new color scheme seen in the Part 3 anime adaptation, his color scheme is now a black coat and green shirt, as opposed to All Star Battle's and Heritage for the Future's dark blue coat and pink shirt (unlike the Parts 1 and 2 characters, who keep their color scheme from All Star Battle).


J-Stars Victory Vs (PS3/PS4/PS Vita)Edit.png
While Jotaro does not appear in J-Stars Victory VS, hidden data was found in the game for him and DIO (alongside other Jump characters Yoh from Shaman King and Dai from Dragon Quest: Dai no Daibōken). Jotaro and DIO were both intended to be playable based on their filenames. However, unlike DIO, Jotaro's moveset and character stances were near-completed.

This marks the second instance a character was cut from a game in JoJo-related media, Koichi being the first in the Le Bizzarre Avventure di GioGio PS2 game.

Jotaro Kujo

Jotaro was one of the first confirmed characters for the game (alongside Part 2 Joseph, Caesar, Stroheim, Kakyoin, Josuke, and Diego). Similar to the previous game, Jotaro is designed as a powerful close-ranged fighter with high damage output. He is the main protagonist of this game's storyline.

As a Stand User, Jotaro is one of many characters with wildly varied abilities that grant him uniqueness in battle.

  • Style Action - I stopped time...: Jotaro instantly stops time for roughly three seconds. His partner and opponents are unable to move, and he is able to initiate any action or attack with impunity. Exclusive to Jotaro is the ability to pick up and throw his opponents while time is stopped, even at each other, heavily damaging them on contact. However, other time-stopping characters may activate their own ability to enter Jotaro's stopped time. This ability's cooldown is equal to 40 counts of the battle timer, making it the longest cooldown of any ability in the game.
  • Star Finger!: Star Platinum shoots its fingers out and swings it, sending opponents caught flying.
  • ORA, ORA!: Star Platinum unleashes a barrage of 22 punches, sending opponents caught flying on the final hit. If the attack button is rapidly pressed, the attack can be extended to add up to 10 more punches.
  • I'll kill you as you take your next breath.: After a short delay, Star Platinum inhales with great strength to pull opponents in, giving Jotaro the chance to attack first. This move can be 'blocked', but the pull effect is not nullified.
  • ORAAAA!: Star Platinum flies forward and delivers a heavy ground pound that kicks up debris, knocking opponents to the ground hard enough for them to bounce. This attack can also hit opponents that are down.
  • EX - Star Finger!: The skill initiates quicker and Jotaro is invincible upon activation. Instead of sending opponents flying, the attack itself will instead leave them crumpling, opening them up to further attack.
  • EX - ORA, ORA!: The skill initiates quicker and Jotaro is invincible upon activation. The punches are thrown faster and do more damage.

Dual Heat Attacks
  • Solo - ORA, ORA, ORA!: Star Platinum begins by punches the opponent off their feet. Jotaro slides his finger along the rim of his hat (a callback to his fight with Kakyoin) before Star Platinum pummels the opponent in real-time, delivering a final punch to the abdomen that sends them flying.
  • With Kakyoin - Use the edge of the ring—just like sumo.: Kakyoin holds the opponent in place with Hierophant Green, allowing Jotaro and Star Platinum to pull them in by Hierophant Green's tail and unleash a barrage of punches that sends them flying. Kakyoin appears once more behind the enemy mid-air to deliver an Emerald Splash. Throughout the whole attack, Jotaro and Kakyoin converse about Sumo, referencing the events in the Wheel of Fortune chapters.
  • With Polnareff - Let's put the final nail in the coffin.: Jotaro and Polnareff summon Star Platinum and Silver Chariot to take turns attacking the opponent. Star Platinum follows with an uppercut, and the two of them begin yelling out their Stand Cries ("ORAORAORA!" and "HORAHORAHORA!") while pummeling and stabbing the opponent, respectively. This attack references how they defeat Alessi in Chapter 209.
  • With Old Joseph - It's not cheating if the secret doesn't get out!: Joseph jumps into the air and tries to snare the opponent with Hermit Purple, only to miss. Briefly shocked and emoting his iconic "OH MY GOD!" as Jotaro expresses disappointment, he drops the facade to reveal that he had tied the opponent with a rope during his previous attack, subsequently sending a Ripple current through the rope to shock them as Jotaro and Star Platinum move in to barrage them into submission.
  • With Jolyne - The Perfect Angle: Star Platinum and Stone Free send the opponent into the air with a dual uppercut, before Jolyne wraps them in a cocoon made of Stone Free's string. After Jotaro confirms the best angle to hit, they pummel it with both of their Stands.

In the game's first demo, Kakyoin is Jotaro's default partner, with the latter being the only player-controlled fighter in the first demo.

Jotaro and Kakyoin are the only two characters who have appeared in both demos. Unlike the previous game, his main color scheme is now based on his anime appearance.

Tournament

He was initially paired with Vanilla Ice in the Eyes of Heaven Tournament, defeating Hol Horse and Yukako Yamagishi in the first round, but eliminated by Jolyne and Gyro Zeppeli in the second.

In the semifinals, Jotaro returns in two different teams: paired with Kakyoin, and paired with DIO. The team with Kakyoin is eliminated by Kars and Pet Shop in the first round, while the team with DIO defeats Mariah and Esidisi in the first round, but is eliminated by Kars and Pet Shop in the second round.

Part 4 Jotaro

Part 4 Jotaro was confirmed as a separate character along with the game's release date as a first-print edition character, similar to the original Yoshikage Kira in All Star Battle. Aside from the ability to shoot marbles, instead of sucking the opponent into attack range, he possesses a slightly longer time stop (3 seconds), in spite of the degradation and disuse of the ability for ten years. His GHA remains the same, but he cannot perform unique DHAs with any of the Part 3 group, or be paired with his Part 3 self in battle.

He appears in the post-credit scene's new timeline retelling of the first chapter of Part 4. He asks Koichi directions to Higashikata's house, but is revealed to have brought a young Jolyne with him. He advises her not to run far away and be careful to cross the road, or else his wife would be sad about it. His Part 4 self also makes an appearance in a group shot during the credits.

If he encounters anyone from the third Joestar Group, they will not recognize him at first but later decide to see how strong Star Platinum is after 10 years.

Tournament

Part 4 Jotaro was paired with Diego Brando from Another Universe, having been placed in the F Block series of battles to be incorporated into the main Tournament. They defeated Josuke Higashikata (JJL) and Narciso Anasui in the first round, but were eliminated by Bruno Bucciarati and Trish Una in the second.

  • His catchphrase, "Yare yare daze" has no direct translation but is usually translated to the effect of "Gimme a break." It can also mean "Well well well..." or "Alright, alright...", since "yare yare" commonly translates to "Oh well..."; It is generally an expression of boredom or exasperation. In the official Viz Media translations, the phrase is considered cursing and is censored. In the official Shonen Jump Advanced manga series he is seen saying "Give me a !@$&*# break..." and the English dub of the OVA translates it as "What a pain..." In the Crunchyroll subs, it is translated as "Good grief". In the English dub of the 2014 series, it's translated as "What a pain (in the ass)" as well as "Give me a break".
    • All Star Battle gives Jotaro the mellow version of this catchphrase, dubbed as "Man, what a pain." His daughter gets the dirtier cuss-like variant, as dubbed: "Man, give me a (*&*%^*&^ break!"
  • Jotaro's family name Kujo (空条, Kūjō) was initially written as 空條 (which sounds the same).
  • Jotaro has two unique lying-down sprites when he is knocked down or K.O'ed in the Capcom fighting game. When he is merely knocked over, he is leaning on one side of his body, slightly upright. When defeated completely, he lies flat down on the ground.
    • In ASB, he merely crumples on the ground and does not lie down, showing signs of struggling, even when "retired" from the match.

  • In the first episode of Puni Puni Poemy, the Director and his alien opponent humorously fight a battle between Stands. The alien fought using a Star Platinum look-alike.
  • The shōjo manga group Clamp are fans of JoJo. In their later publication, Wish, the main angel character, Kohaku, closely resembles Kakyoin's hairdo and appearance. Ironically, the love interest of said character roughly resembles a hatless Jotaro, named Kudo Shuichiro. Although the angel is sexless, some fans have speculated this story is a shōnen-ai interpretation of the two. In their early years, Clamp also created doujinshi of part 3 of JoJo which featured their original character, Jotaro and Kakyoin's love-child Jota (hatched from an egg) and his stand Charmy Green (which looks like a green Star Platinum).
  • In the NBC drama, Heroes, a fictional Japanese salaryman named Hiro Nakamura is a fan of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. In his blog, he states that he wants to "be like JoJo and Vaan and go on adventures". One of his powers includes time manipulation, a gift shared with both Jotaro and Dio Brando. Hiro later posts on his blog under the pseudonym of Jotaro Kujo.
  • Jotaro exhibits an anime archetype exhibited commonly by "genius" characters by forever staying young through all of his appearances in spite of age. Other characters that noticeably share this trait are Maximilian Jenius and Hiko Seijuro.
  • In the video game Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, Monokuma beats Monomi with rapid punches while yelling "ORA ORA". In response, Monomi says "This is your Stand?!". This is clearly a reference to Jotaro's Stand, Star Platinum.
  • Iikubo Haruna, sub-leader of the pop group Morning Musume, has stated she is in love with Jotaro.
  • Jotaro makes a cameo appearance in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again!(2018) on a poster in Tokyo, Japan.
