The company was founded by former Gonzo president and producer Koji Kajita and fellow producer Taito Okiura in September 2007 upon having left Gonzo. The company's first work was as an animation subcontractor, but in 2009, David Production undertook their first full animation production as a primary contractor with Ristorante Paradiso.[1][2][3]

Productor Hiroyuki Omori, who accepted to produce JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: The Animation, chose David Production for their work on the “Tatakau Shisho” series, which "showed powerful linework and careful animation" and therefore convinced him they could adapt a series like JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.[4]

Fuji Television acquired the studio on August 1, 2014.[5][6]

They are located at 1 Chome−88−1 M & K Higashiyamato Building on the 3rd floor in Ogawa, Kodaira, Tokyo.

Trivia

  • The name of the studio derives from David and Goliath, the biblical underdog story of a young man who overcomes challenges by his creative acumen. It was chosen to represent the company's policy of "creating good animation with great storytelling & characters," despite being relatively small to other notable studios. The name is also an acronym for Design Audio & Visual Illusion Dynamics, signifying the company's value in providing "animation with impact."[7]
