Biography

Nobunaga Shimazaki was born on December 6, 1988 in Shiogama, Miyagi Prefecture.[1][2] During his upper elementary school years, after watching the rebroadcast of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and being inspired by Hikaru Midorikawa, who voiced the protagonist Heero Yuy, he began to consider voice acting as a profession.[2]

In his second year of high school, he participated in a talent audition for an entertainment agency that his mother had signed him up for. He underwent singing, acting, and swimsuit evaluations and made it to the final selection but was ultimately not chosen. This experience made him think that rather than being a television personality, it still might be possible to get a career in the entertainment industry, and he returned to his normal life.[5][2]

After high school, influenced by his environment, he spent a year studying to become a dentist. However, after about half a year, he realized he was trying to escape reality and thought he might really want to be a voice actor. In 2007, he participated in the "1st 81 Audition" held by 81 Produce, along with Takuya Eguchi.[6]. He made it to the final selection but was not chosen. Nonetheless, making it to the finals in a major audition made him think that if he could train properly, then he could reach his goal. In 2008, he enrolled in the 29th class of Aoni Juku Tokyo.[4]

In 2009, he made his voice acting debut as Herbert Nielsen in Valkyria Chronicles. In December 2010, under the joint project of his agency, the composer UZA, and a publishing company, he started activities as "Headphone Man" for a year and also performed as part of the "Cosmo Team".[7]

In January 2012, he landed his first leading role in a TV anime as Kaito Kirishima in Waiting in the Summer.[5] On March 1, 2013, he won the Best New Actor Award at the 7th Seiyu Awards.[8] On January 1, 2016, he was appointed as a Miyagi Kizuna Ambassador, meaning he was chosen to promote Miyagi Prefecture.[9] On March 6, 2021, he won the Best Supporting Actor Award at the 15th Seiyu Awards.[10]

On August 8, 2022, Aoni Production officially launched Nobunaga Shimazaki's personal fan club app.[11]

On January 1, 2023, he announced his marriage to a non-celebrity woman.[12]

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

In 2013, Shimazaki posted that he sometimes listens to JoJo music while traveling.[13] He made his debut in the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise in 2023, voicing Toru as part of the Wonder of U DLC in All-Star Battle R. He was revealed as Toru's voice actor on November 21, 2023, and quoted the trailer by saying "I'm her ex", a quote which Toru says about Yasuho Hirose.[14]
