Biography

Dan Woren was born on January 8, 1952 in San Diego, California, USA.[1] Woren always enjoyed voice overs since he was a kid, making up a football game with his friend and doing the announcing for it on a reel-to-reel tape recorder. When he got into college, he felt his voice had developed enough and sounded good. Another student asked him to narrate a report about Hermann Hesse and it ended up going really well, leading him to considering a career using his voice. After graduating college, he did various things such as working in children's theaters until he decided to move to Los Angeles.

In the late 70s, he voiced in commercials for Miller's Outpost, becoming the spokesman for their company for a few years. He became close friends with someone who was just starting to direct anime, who suggested he would be good at voicing in those. He debuted in anime playing the role of Roy Fokker in Robotech in 1985. Rosalyn Landor convinced him to voice in audiobooks, introducing him to various publishing companies.[2]

Regarding Woren's role as Rudol von Stroheim, the director Patrick Seitz told him to go over the top and have fun. He describes Stroheim as Arnold Schwarzenegger on extra steroids. He really enjoyed the role because of how different it was from roles he was used to. He also thinks of Stroheim as a campy character who is easy to make fun of despite how prideful and serious he is.[3]
