Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan: At a Confessional (岸辺露伴は動かない 懺悔室, Kishibe Rohan wa Ugokanai Zange-shitsu, lit. Rohan Kishibe Does Not Move: Confessional) is a live-action movie adaptation of the one-shot At a Confessional, based on the Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan TV drama series by NHK.

It was officially announced on January 6, 2025, and is scheduled to release in Japanese theaters on May 23, 2025.[1]

Synopsis

Rohan Kishibe, a manga artist with a special ability, is visiting Venice, Italy on a research trip, and happens to overhear a man's confession in a church. The confession is to a horrific incident, one that occurred 25 years ago...

Production

Filming took place in Fall 2024[1] entirely in Venice, Italy, being the first Japanese film to do so.[2] The film was shot on location at Piazza San Marco, the Church of Saint Roch (San Rocco), Pescheria di Rialto, Punta della Dogana, the Palazzo Barbarigo Minotto, Palazzo da Mosto, and the Santi Giovanni e Paolo.[1]

And now, we've finally reached the origin of the original work. Perhaps this good fortune can only be felt by a flesh-and-blood human being. In addition to the staff I've worked with so far, we have also been joined by cheerful, earnest, and wonderful staff from Italy, and I think we were able to create a new world for Rohan Kishibe once again. In the last film, Rohan came into contact with his roots, his past, and his inheritance through the "regret" at the Louvre in Paris; next, he'll encounter what you could call the flipside of that, "luck," in the present. This work can be enjoyed both by fans of the original work and by those who love the world of the Rohan I've played so far, as well as those who will be watching for the first time. The new cast members are all actors that I am honored to be working with. I hope you all look forward to welcoming them as well. I am so very lucky to have been able to play Rohan up until now, and so lucky to have met everyone who has been involved with the project.
