Casey Mongillo

Casey Mongillo is an American voice actor working primarily out of Los Angeles, California. They are notable for voicing Emporio Alnino in the anime adaptation of Stone Ocean.

Mongillo is well-known for their portrayal as Shinji Ikari in the Netflix dub of Neon Genesis Evangelion. Other roles of theirs include the Protagonist in Shin Megami Tensei V, Sho Suzuki in Mob Psycho 100, Vernon Cherry in Red Dead Redemption, as well as Chrysa and various Pokémon in Pokémon Journeys: The Series.

Biography

Mongillo was born on October 22, 1987 in Bristol, Connecticut. Prior to voice acting, they were an avid member of the Grand Theft Auto community and one of the co-founders of the fan site, GTAGaming. Their nickname "Zidane" is in the credits of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto IV.

Mongillo's earliest voice acting endeavor was dubbing over various scenes in Tony Hawk's Underground.[3] They note Lani Minella as their mentor since their early days after high school.[3] As a voice actor, Mongillo was previously based in New York City before relocating to Los Angeles in 2016.[4]

On April 3, 2012, Mongillo released a single named "Everything is Alright" on Apple Music.[5] They were nominated for "Best Performance" by an English Voice Actor in the Crunchyroll Anime Awards for their performance as Shinji.[6]

On December 1, 2021, during the launch of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean on Netflix, Casey announced that that they were voicing Emporio Alnino.[7]

Controversy

In 2020, Casey made a post on Twitter claiming that they weren't allowed to audition for the role of Narancia Ghirga in Part 5 because they were LGBT.[8] Casey later explained that this was because the casting director "didn't believe an LGBT actor could sound non-LGBT."[9]

  • Mongillo and fellow Stone Ocean cast member Kira Buckland are roommates (as of Stone Ocean's release). Buckland noted that despite living together, the two of them rarely worked on the same projects, so JoJo was particularly fun.[11] Prior to their involvement with Stone Ocean, Mongillo had wanted to voice Narancia Ghirga in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, but was not invited to audition.[12]
  • As of 2020, Mongillo's favorite anime is FLCL. They are also a big fan of series's featured band, The Pillows.[3]
