Biography
Kazuya Nakai was born on November 25,[1] 1967.[3] He always wanted to be a voice actor, but thought there was no way he could become one. After turning 25, he thought he shouldn't give up without trying anything, so he started working as a civil servant. On the weekends when he didn't have work, he went to Aoni Juku Osaka School, which is Aoni Production's private voice acting school.[7] He graduated from their 11th batch of students.[1]
Nakai made his debut in 1995 playing a minor role as Sai in episode 33 of the Gulliver Boy anime. After his debut, he voiced Witz Sou in After War Gundam X in 1996.[8] When he read One Piece, Nakai really wanted to play Roronoa Zoro and passed his audition in 1999.[7] Since then, Zoro remains as his biggest and longest-lasting role.
Nakai is now primarily known for voicing swordsmen and samurai characters in various different anime and video games, but wants to try voicing different kinds of characters that he has never done before.[8]
