Mirai Moriyama
Mirai Moriyama (森山 未來, Moriyama Mirai) is an award-winning Japanese actor and dancer. He is credited for his roles as the protagonist of the theater adaptation of Under Execution, Under Jailbreak as well as for his role as Jugo Shishi in the TV Drama Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan.
Besides these two roles, Moriyama has a prolific career in live-action movies such as Crying Out Love in the Center of the World, Fish Story, and Rage, as well as in TV dramas such as WATER BOYS, Penance, and Moteki. He is also a voice actor, starring in the anime films Saint Young Men and Inu-Oh. Outside the big screen, Moriyama gained prominence for his roles in theater plays, exhibition and dancing spectacles.
Biography
Mirai Moriyama was born in Amgasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, on August 20, 1984. He currently resides in Tokyo.[1]
Moriyama belonged to a family with an artistic fiber, as his mother runs a dance studio. Moriyama started to learn dancing at a young age, notably jazz dance at the age of 5, tap dance at 6, classical balled and hip-hop at 8. After graduating from Hōtoku Gakuen High School, he studied at Takushoku University at the faculty of Foreign Languages, apparently studying Spanish, but dropped out.
Moriyama made his official acting debut at the age of 15 in a play called "BOYS TIME" in 1999, although he had experience on the stage beforehand.[1] He made his first drama appearance in the one-shot drama TEAM at the age of 16. His breakthrough role was in WATER BOYS, which saw his popularity increase. His would go on to have a prolific career and win numerous awards for his roles.
For instance, Moriyama won the 28th Japan Academy Film Prize in the "New Actor" and "Outstanding Supporting Actor" for his role as Sakutaro "Saku" Matsumoto in Crying Out Love in the Center of the World, his film debut.[4] In 2012, he won the Mainichi Film Awards in the "Best Actor" category for his role as Yukiyo Fujimoto in Moteki.[5]
In 2013, he was nominated for a one-year appointment as Cultural Ambassador by the Agency for Cultural Affairs.[6] As Cultural Ambassador, he spent time in Israel, Belgium, and a number of other European countries, in order to work with diverse performing arts groups.[1]
