Otaro Maijo (舞城 王太郎, Maijō Ōtarō) is a Japanese novelist and manga author. He is credited for writing the novel JORGE JOESTAR for the VS JOJO event.

Otaro Maijo is best known for his aggressive and colloquial writing style, his novel Asura Girl, and writing and illustrating many of the novels in the Faust magazine along with Nisio Isin.

Biography

Otaro Maijo was born in 1973 in the Fukui Prefecture, where most of his novels are set.

In 2001 he was the winner of the 19th Mephisto Prize for his debut novel Smoke, Soil, and Sacrifices[1], and the 16th Mishima Yukio Prize for Asura Girl in 2003[2].

In December 2005, he was confirmed to be one of the co-creators of REALCOFFEE[3], a project that is attempting to inspire new Japanese works and movies.

In 2010, in a project collaborating with authors Otsuichi and Akita Yoshinobu, he released the light-novel series "Makai Detective Pluto O" under the name of "Echizen Mataro".
