Interview
This is Hirohiko Araki. This April, I published a book titled JoJo's Bizarre Words, a collection of famous lines. I published it in two volumes, actually. But, um, you know, that's just the title. I didn't actually give it the title of JoJo's Bizarre Words myself, and calling it "a collection of famous lines" feels kind of obscene, don't you think? It's as though even I'm enamored by them.
The book, which comes out tomorrow, is a collection of memorable lines from JoJo hand-picked by readers and editors, with, um, a bit of commentary on each. It wasn't my idea to give it the kind of title that says, "This is a collection of famous quotes," or anything. But I do have the honor of publishing it, so I'm somewhat grateful for the opportunity. What is it, my 25th year in serialization? 30. It's a little monument to my 30th anniversary as a manga artist. It's that kind of book. Thank you all for your support.
This year marks the series's 25th anniversary. This year, I'll be holding an art exhibition. I'll hold it in Sendai in July and August, and then I'll hold it in Tokyo this autumn, so I'll need, you know, a new work for that. And then, of course, there's JoJolion, where the story continues to expand, and the mystery of the main character continues to both unravel and deepen. It is JoJolion, after all. I'd like to make it my life's work. Thank you.
荒木飛呂彦です。この4月、このジョジョの奇妙な名言集という、えー、セリフの名言集。それをに、あ、上下二冊出させていただきました。あの、まあ、ね、これタイトルですね。ジョジョの奇妙な名言集というのは、実は私がつけたタイトルじゃなくて、自分でこう名言集って言っちゃうとか、なんかこういやらしいじゃないですか。惚れてるっていうか。これはあの読者の皆さんやこう編集者の方がこう選んだ、選んでくださった、うー、ジョジョのこう印象に残るような台詞を、あのー、ちょっと解説して、あす、集めてみようっていう。名言集にしようよっていうタイトルにしようよとか、そういうのがないで、あのー、出させていただいたという、そういう何かありがたい本というか。えー、なんだろう、連載20周年ですか。三。マンガ家生活30周年を記念していただいたという、ちょっとしたこうモニュメントっていうか。そういう本です。よろしくお願いいたします。25周年の今後の今年ですね。今年の展開は、絵画展っていうのを、やの、やらさせていただきます。仙台で、7月、8月にまずそこで一回やらせていただいて、あと東京でもこの秋に、やらさせていただく予定で、それのためのこう、な、やっぱり新作がないとね。あとはやっぱりジョジョリオンね、あの、ストーリーをどんどん発展させていって、まあ、あの主人公の謎をさらに解明したり、ふ深めていったりして。やっぱりジョジョリオンですよね。もうライフワークにしたいと思います。よろしくお願いいたします。
