A message of support from Hirohiko Araki

George Asakura is also enthusiastically supported by other creators, including manga artists, musicians, and photographers. Hirohiko Araki, a long-time friend of his, left a kind yell of support for his work in a comment for us!

Maybe it's because George Asakura's works are usually set in the countryside, rather than in the big city, but I can't get enough of his urban-country nostalgia or his traditional love stories and human relationships. Drowning Love in particular is a masterpiece! The image of the musical genre called "alternative rock," is present throughout both his art and his stories, which makes him one-of-a-kind. He stands at the peak.

I'd love to see him write a Japanese horror in the future. I'm sure he could weave a beautiful, terrifying tale blending legends with the modern era!

Hirohiko Araki:
Born in Sendai in 1960. In 1980, he was recognized for Poker Under Arms at the 20th Tezuka Award competition, and he made his debut the next year. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure began serialization in Issue #1-2 of Weekly Shonen Jump in 1987. Currently, he is serializing Part 8: JoJolion in Ultra Jump.

マンガ家、ミュージシャン、写真家など、クリエーターからの支持もアツいジョージ朝倉。その作品について、かねてから親交があるという荒木飛呂彦から、温かいエールが込められたコメントをいただいた！

ジョージ朝倉さんの作品は、都会ではない、少し地方が舞台設定に多いのが理由かもしれないけれど、アーバン・カントリーのノスタルジーとか伝統の中でのラブストーリーや人間模様がたまりませんね。なかでも『溺れるナイフ』は最高傑作！　音楽にオルタナティヴ・ロックという分野がありますが、そのイメージが絵や物語の中にあって、唯一無二。最高峰です。

この先、日本的なホラーも描いてみてほしい。伝説と現代を融合させた、美しすぎる恐怖のお話が描けるに違いないと思います！

あらき・ひろひこ●1960年、仙台市生まれ。80年、「武装ポーカー」で第20回手塚賞に入選し翌年デビュー。『週刊少年ジャンプ』87年1・2合併号で『ジョジョの奇妙な冒険』連載開始。現在、『ウルトラジャンプ』で第8部『ジョジョリオン』を連載中。
