When do you usually listen to music? What's your daily music routine?
Araki: At work. With family.
What influence has music had on your work?
Araki: You can't work unless you have music.
What's the first piece of music that you bought?
Araki: It was Close to the Edge by Yes.
What's your favorite movie score?
Araki: For a Few Dollars More. The music was composed by Ennio Morricone. It's nothing less than a masterpiece.
Also, the theme for The Great Escape. It always gets me fired up.
What are your top 5 albums and why?"
Araki:
- "Close to the Edge" (Yes): Perfection.
- "Late for the Sky" (Jackson Browne): Tear shedding.
- "Hysteria" (Def Leppard): Exciting.
- "Physical Graffiti" (Led Zeppelin): Explosive.
- "Beyond The Missouri Sky" (Charlie Haden & Pat Metheny): Superb.
What are your favorite album cover designs and why?"
- "Close to the Edge" (Yes): The design of the logo and the hand-drawn (not CG) green gradient.
- "Borboletta" (Santana): The jewel-like butterflies.
- "Blind Faith" (Blind Faith): Too erotic.
- "Breakfast in America" (Supertramp): The huge food-like city.
- "Undercurrent" (Bill Evans & Jim Hall): Beautiful photo.
If you were the organizer of an "ARAKI MUSIC FESTIVAL" where you could book all your favorite artists, who would you invite?
Araki: Prince, Pat Metheny, Olivia Newton-John and Led Zeppelin.
Do you listen to any younger artists these days? If so, are there any artists that you would recommend?
Araki: Lady Gaga and Brad Paisley.
What songs would you recommend to get over this heat wave?
Araki: Lee Ritenour's "Gentle Thoughts".
