Janken Boy Is Coming! (ジャンケン小僧がやって来る!, Janken Kozō ga Yatte Kuru!) is the one hundredth episode of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime and the twenty-sixth episode of Diamond Is Unbreakable. It covers Chapter 371 through Chapter 376 of the manga.

Summary

Yoshihiro Kira flies around Morioh in his photograph, searching for people to turn into Stand users with his arrow so that Josuke & co. cannot bother his son, Yoshikage Kira. Along the way, the arrow chooses a young boy, who Yoshihiro then fires at.

Meanwhile, Rohan Kishibe is busy photographing salarymen at the train station, specifically looking for people around the same build and age of the currently-incognito Yoshikage. However, he is confronted by the boy from earlier, now with a hole in his cheek, who insists that Rohan play rock-paper-scissors with him. Rohan repeatedly tries to ignore the boy, but eventually gives in. He uses Heaven's Door to read the boy's memories, learning among other things that his name is Ken Oyanagi and that he tends to play "scissors" first. From this, Rohan cheats his way to victory, playing "rock" before leaving victorious.

Later at a café, Rohan encounters Ken again, who steals his seat and forces him to wager it over another game of rock-paper-scissors, only to lose a second time. Rohan meets him again after Ken steals his book at the library. Rohan plays "rock" by punching Ken in the face, only to lose because his opponent had played "paper". Just then, the hole in Ken's cheek starts sucking air in and in the process drags out Rohan's Stand Heaven's Door, revealing his own Stand in the process. Rohan is able to save himself by using Heaven's Door to knock the boy unconscious again. Rohan finds out from Ken's memories that he desperately wishes to defeat him at rock-paper-scissors and that his Stand Boy II Man will steal the energy and/or Stand abilities of anyone he defeats, so long as he wins 3 matches. Rohan then takes the opportunity to write "cannot attack Rohan Kishibe" in Ken's memories, only for it to suddenly change to "can attack Rohan Kishibe." Ken, regaining consciousness, reveals that Boy II Man had stolen Heaven's Door's right arm, granting him a part of its powers. Rohan is now forced to continue playing rock-paper-scissors with Ken in order to make Heaven's Door whole once more.

Despite his earlier victories, Rohan loses his fourth match and loses the lower body of Heaven's Door, his resolve having been broken by Ken. Ken states that, as a fan of Rohan's works, he is jealous of the mangaka's popularity and wishes to beat him to prove that he is better than him. Ken then proves his own good luck by predicting that Josuke and Joseph will ignore Rohan and that he can stand in a shower of broken glass without getting harmed. However, during the next round of rock-paper-scissors, Ken finds himself in numerous draws against Rohan; eventually, Ken wins the final round by playing "scissors" against Rohan's "paper", only for his hand to suddenly curl up into the fist that indicates "rock". Not aware until it's too late that Rohan had secretly used Heaven's Door to make Shizuka Joestar turn his "scissors" into "rock", Ken believes that he has lost, forcing Boy II Man to return the missing pieces of Heaven's Door. Frustrated that Rohan once again cheated his way to victory, Ken tries to best Rohan in a rematch by holding Shizuka hostage, only to lose three times in a row, no strings attached. In a fit of despair, Ken attempts suicide by jumping in front of a moving truck, only for Rohan to move in the way, surviving through sheer luck when Yoshihiro, who had been watching the whole affair, is blown by the wind onto the truck's windshield, obscuring the driver's view; the truck then swerves out of Ken & Rohan's way, saving them both.

Seeing that Rohan really does have luck on his side, Ken admits defeat, and is in turn praised by Rohan for his decisiveness. Joseph and Josuke meet up with Rohan again, looking for Shizuka. Not knowing where she was left, Rohan and Ken then start searching for her with them, a hectic end to a hectic day.

Appearances

Manga/Anime Differences

  • Removed Yoshihiro stating that the arrow can not hurt those chosen by it, and Rohan mistaking Ken's cheek hole for a mole.
  • Removed some of Yoshihiro's monologues and reactions to events (such as the analogy to Alexander the Great when Rohan got hurt by a glass shard while Ken didn't).
  • Removed a conversation between Rohan and Joseph where Joseph, an avid comic book collector, asks Rohan if there are English translations of his comics (as Joseph is not very fluent in reading Japanese), and Rohan replies in the negative, stating that Americans must either lack taste or can't understand the subtleties of his work.
  • Removed Rohan reading details about Ken's life (loved soccer and started playing baseball until his coach started complaining about his long hair, blew his nose on the coach's hat when he quit, hates peppers and anpan, likes fatty cuts of meat, afraid of the dentist and namahage, and has never used a public bathroom)
  • Shows the inside of Ken's mouth.
  • Added a sketch of the café by Rohan.

Trivia

  • This is the third episode to lack a Stand info card for the episode's central character (Boy II Man) without any future appearances where one might be given.
