Bruford (ブラフォード, Burafōdo) est un antagoniste mineur figurant dans la première partie de JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Phantom Blood.
Bruford était un célèbre chevalier britannique du 16ème siècle qui, avec le puissant Tarkus, était au service de Mary Stuart. Trahi et exécuté, Bruford est ressuscité en zombie vengeur par Dio Brando et devient son serviteur. Il combat ainsi Jonathan Joestar, armé de son épée Luck.
Apparence
Bruford est un un homme de stature athlétique et de longs cheveux noirs en bataille, qui a une cicatrice sur l'arête du nez. Il porte une armure métallique composée d'un plastron avec une plaque ornée en forme de collier qui se termine sur un disque métallique décoré, des épaulettes et des protections aux chevilles avec une paire de sandales et un diadème décoré de plusieurs bijoux. Il est transformé en zombie et acquiert aussi des crocs acérés.

Personnalité
Quand il était vivant, Bruford était un honorable chevalier au service de Mary Stuart. Ses sentiments envers elle dépassaient même celui de l'amour. Quand Elizabeth I a trahi Mary Stuart, Bruford se tenait à ses côtés, combattant les armées d'Elizabeth pour Mary Stuart. En apprenant sa capture, il était prêt à mourir pour elle et avait accepté d'être exécuté lorsque Elizabeth avait promise qu'elle épargnerait alors Stuart. Cependant, lorsque le bourreau lui a montré la tête de Mary Stuart, Bruford entra dans une rage extraordinaire et commença à haîr l'humanité.
En tant que zombie, sa haine est restée et il sert désormais Dio dans sa quête de destruction. Cependant, sa fierté en tant que chevalier a également persistée même s'il était un zombie rempli de haine. C'est pour celà que Bruford avait demandé à combattre Jonathan en combat individuel.
Après avoir été vaincu par Jonathan, l'Onde que Jonathan injecte en lui "libère son âme", lui permettant de se sentir à nouveau humain. Il perd sa haine envers le monde et est reconnaissant d'avoir eu la chance de rencontrer l'honorable Jonathan.
Pouvoirs et Equipement
En tant que chevalier, Bruford est censé être un bon combattant. Il est dit que durant la guerre entre les forces de Mary Stuart et Elizabeth I, seuls Bruford et Tarkus pouvaient gagner contre les armées d'Elizabeth I. Même en tant qu'humain, Bruford avait des capacités athlétiques au-delà du commun des hommes. Nageur expert, Bruford était capable de nager à travers un lac de 5 km en armure et avec 30 kg de poids sur lui. Il a également réussi à relever le défi des 77 Anneaux.
En tant que zombie, sa force est demultipliée et on peut le voir arracher le nez d'un zombie avec juste son doigt ou nager aussi vite que l'Onde peut se propager dans l'eau, lui permettant d'échapper à une attaque de Jonathan avec un minimum de dégâts.

Passé
Né au XVIe siècle, Bruford était membre de la dynastie des Tudor et était un chevalier au service de la douce Mary Stuart. Ayant perdu sa famille dans des guerres antérieures, il avait été pris sous l'aile de Mary Stuart et s'était entrainé au combat uniquement pour la servir. En même temps, Bruford s'est attaché à Mary dont le charme le faisait se sentir en paix. Aux côtés de son compagnon de service Tarkus, Bruford a réussi le défi des 77 anneaux en 1563, et ils étaient parmi les seuls cinq individus de l'histoire à y parvenir.[3]
Quand une guerre éclata entre Mary et sa rivale politique la Reine Elizabeth, Bruford et Tarkus ont combattu l'armée de la reine pour Mary et étaient les seuls à pouvoir gagner. Cependant, Stuart fut finalement capturée et Elizabeth offrit la libération de Mary en échange de la reddition de Bruford et Tarkus. Il acceptèrent pour sauver leur seigneur, mais au moment où ils devaient être exécutés en tant qu'ennemis de la couronne, Bruford et Tarkus ont appris du bourreau que Mary avait déjà été tuée auparavant. Bruford mourru en exprimant sa haine éternelle pour Elizabeth et sa famille, des rumeurs disant que ses cheveux enchevêtraient les pieds du bourreau et l'avaient tué quelques instants avant que Bruford soit décapité. L'histoire de Bruford et Tarkus a été inscrite dans l'Histoire et est devenue connue des Anglais, deux de ces personnes étant Jonathan et Dio.
Phantom Blood
Après avoir élu domicile à Windknight's Lot après sa transformation en vampire, Dio a ressuscité Bruford et Tarkus, exprimant un peu de sentimentalité à leur égard, mais surtout pour en faire des serviteurs puissants pour faire face à Jonathan, Zeppeli et Speedwagon. Dio attaque les héros avec son armée de zombie et révèle ses Chevaliers Noirs. Les cheveux de Bruford sucent le sang de Jonathan, l'empêchant de conduire l'Onde à travers son bras, mais Jonathan utilise simplement son autre poing pour brûler les cheveux avec une One enflammée. Quand un Zombie intervient, Bruford le tue pour avoir osé s'interposer dans son combat. Intéressé par le talent au combat de Jonathan, Bruford demande à Dio s'il peut le combattre seul et Dio exhauce son voeu. Bruford attaque donc, sautant tout en cachant ses mains pour tromper Jonathan, et brandit son épée "Luck" avec ses cheveux. Pour éviter l'attaque, Jonathan se baisseet sauter dans un étang, poursuivi par Bruford. Étonnamment, Jonathan nage vers le bas pour trouver des bulles d'air sous les rochers, ce qui lui permet de respirer et d'attaquer indirectement Bruford avec un Ripple Overdrive. Cependant, Bruford nage rapidement à la surface pour éviter le gros de l'attaque.
Heureux d'affronter un tel adversaire, Bruford déploie ses cheveux et ligote Jonathan, le fracassant contre un arbre. Bruford tire son épée et attaque mais Jonathan donne un coup de pied à l'épée, conduisant l'Onde dans le bras du Zombie. Puis, Jonathan donne une volée de puissant coups de poings à Bruford avec le Sunlight Yellow Overdrive.
Une fois que Jonathan l'a frappé directement après l'avoir désarmé, Bruford a retrouvé son humanité perdu grâce à l'Onde qui détruit lentement son corps. Bruford fait mine d'attaquer encore, mais s'arrête juste avant d'atteindre Jonathan. Acceptant sa défaite avec grâce, Bruford s'aperçoit qu'il ne ressent plus de haine mais est content de pouvoir retrouver Mary dans l'au-delà. Il demande son nom à Jonathan et lui son épée, qu'il renomme Luck and Pluck, avant de se réduire en cendres. Jonathan pense alors au noble chevalier qu'il a été forcé de tuer, et regrette qu'il ait été corrompu par Dio. Son armure et ses restes sont dispersés d'un coup de pied par Tarkus, qui est enragé d'avoir vu Bruford abandonner son combat, le qualifiant de lâche.

Bruford appears as a boss character in Chapters 13 and 14. In Chapter 13, the player plays as Jonathan Joestar and faces Bruford in an underwater battle. During the match, Jonathan is unable to charge Ripple naturally, and must stay near the air bubbles that dot the stage to charge his Stamina Meter: if the Stamina Meter completely depletes, Jonathan's health will begin draining. Bruford swims around the stage, and only approaches Jonathan in order to attack. If Jonathan lands an Overdrive move on Bruford, a unique cutscene will play showing Jonathan using Turquoise Blue Overdrive on Bruford, ending the battle.

Bruford appears in Diamond Records as a playable character in both the Action Battle and Tactical Battle game modes. He has one 'Courage' type 5 star statue.
Bruford's moveset in both game modes is comprised of various attacks inspired by the anime using his sword, hair, and speed abilities. Despite being a zombie in canon, the game gives him the "vampire" tag and thus gives him the qualities of a vampire character (such as regeneration and weakness to the Ripple). Playing as him will force any outdoor stages into their night time variants.
Moveset
Bruford's basic attack string is a combination of up to five various attacks comprising of different strikes with his sword. In Tactical Battle, this is cut down to only three hits.
Bruford uses his hair to impale the opponent and deal multiple hits of damage.
Bruford disappears briefly, then reappears behind the nearest opponent to punch them from behind. (Unlockable)
Bruford jumps and does a strong spin attack with his sword, holding it with his hair.
