Fire and Ice, Jonathan and Dio, Part 1 ((ファイアー)(アイス) ジョナサンとディオ その①, Faiā to Aisu Jonasan to Dio Sono 1), originally Bloody Battle! JoJo & DIO (血戦! JoJo(ジョジョ)&()DIO(ディオ), Kessen! JoJo to DIO) in the WSJ and tankobon releases, is the thirty-ninth chapter of Phantom Blood and the thirty-ninth chapter of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga.

Summary

Dire's final attack brings Jonathan's attention to a way of defeating Dio. He asks Speedwagon to give him the sword Luck & Pluck which Bruford had bequeathed him. Now in possession of the sword, Jonathan infuses it with the Ripple, intending to attack Dio immediately without leaving time for Dio to use his flash freeze. As Jonathan approaches him, an enraged Dio shouts angrily about the Ripple and Jonathan's arrogance, revealing his true and ugly nature.

Nearby, Poco and his sister are ambushed by four zombies, only to be saved when Straizo comes to their aid. At this, the zombies all turn their attention towards him and introduce themselves as Page, Jones, Plant, and Bornnam, respectively. After they introduce themselves, however, they all use the Needle Vein Strike, which Straizo simply dodges by jumping into the air. Next, he makes a chandelier fall on top of all of them, trapping them. He comes down on top of the chandelier and sends a Ripple through it, melting all of them.

Meanwhile, Jonathan and Dio are evenly matched. Dio leaps at Jonathan, who throws several Ripple roses at Dio, but Dio simply blocks all of them. However, because of this, Jonathan gets the opportunity to get to Dio's right side, which is his only blind spot because of his wound from Dire. Jonathan then slices Dio's arm off with his sword and cuts Dio straight down the middle.

Speedwagon thinks Dio is dead, but Dio speaks up, disproving him. It turns out that Dio froze the sword. Dio then shoves his fingers into Jonathan’s neck and begins to drain his blood.

As we gain more assistants, the workplace becomes more cramped, so we've planned to move soon. I wonder if this'll be a good idea.
アシスタントも増えて、仕事場が狭くなったので、近く引越しの予定。いいとこないかナ
