Atom Heart Father (アトム·ハート·ファーザー, Atomu Hāto Fāzā) is the ninety-ninth episode of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime and the twenty-fifth episode of Diamond Is Unbreakable. It covers Chapter 365 through Chapter 370 of the manga.

Summary

In an average house in Morioh lives the apathetic Shinobu Kawajiri and her equally apathetic son Hayato. Shinobu's husband Kosaku has always been a very dull man, living life by a very basic routine. One day, however, she notices that something seems off when Kosaku returns home and starts cooking dinner for the first time in their marriage. Unbeknownst to her, however, her husband is dead, and the man in her home is his murderer, the serial killer Yoshikage Kira, taking on his appearance.

Meanwhile, Jotaro, Josuke, Koichi, and Okuyasu are at Kira's old home, looking for any noteworthy traits that they can use to track him down. Jotaro finds that Kira has deliberately been living his life so as not to stand out, while Josuke finds Kira's collection of his own fingernails and toenails, along with a notebook recording how long they've grown between clippings. Based on the annotations in the notebook, Jotaro determines that Kira has been using the lengths of his nails to determine whether or not he's in the condition to kill. However, a polaroid camera suddenly snaps a picture of Jotaro and Josuke; the two find that the photo produced contains the image of Kira's late father Yoshihiro sitting behind them. Suddenly, the phone starts ringing and the receiver flies at Josuke, hitting him in the face. The duo find that Yoshihiro is calling them from within the photograph, indicating that the man in the photo is actually Yoshihiro's ghost.

Josuke sends out Crazy Diamond to tear up Yoshihiro's photo before any more harm can be done, only to find that he and Jotaro are being torn apart as well: as it turns out, the Jotaro and Josuke in the photo are linked to the Jotaro and Josuke in real life, forcing Crazy Diamond to repair the photo before the damage worsens. Yoshihiro quickly deduces that Josuke has a Stand just like his son. Josuke has Okuyasu try to erase the portion of the photo containing Yoshihiro via The Hand, only for Okuyasu to suddenly crash through the window on the other side of the room. As the group soon finds out, Yoshihiro can isolate certain parts of an area by photographing them, producing a pocket dimension within the photograph that can't be entered or exited once it's created, thanks to his own Stand, Atom Heart Father. Yoshihiro then beheads Jotaro and Josuke within the photograph, causing a kitchen knife to start flying at Josuke that can't be hit. However, Jotaro is able to save Josuke and eliminate the pocket dimension by taking a photograph of Yoshihiro alone, which forces the ghost out of the original picture and trapping him in the second one, and folding this new photo in two, taping it shut, and tacking it onto the wall.

The gang continues their search, noting that Yoshihiro only attacked them because he knew that there was something nearby that could jeopardize his son's safety. While Koichi & Okuyasu are busy scouting the bathroom, Yoshihiro attempts to trick them into freeing him by pretending that he is too cramped in his current condition and needs to breathe. While Koichi falls for this ruse, Okuyasu quickly determines that it's a trick and taunts Yoshihiro by pinning more tacks onto the photo. To his surprise, however, Yoshihiro claims that Okuyasu's actions have given him a means of escape. Okuyasu takes down the photograph to figure out how this can be while Koichi warns Jotaro and Josuke. Meanwhile, Josuke happens to find the bow and arrow, baffling him due to it supposedly being in the hands of the Speedwagon Foundation. Jotaro determines that this must be a different set; from this, he comes to the realization that during DIO's second reign of terror roughly a decade ago, he and his assistant Enya had probably created their many Stand-user henchmen with multiple bows and arrows in a short amount of time. Just then, Yoshihiro makes his escape, having used his claims of victory to bait Okuyasu into releasing him. Yoshihiro steals the bow and arrow and flies off on the back of a crow, aiming to create more Stand users to antagonize his son's enemies. While leaving, Yoshihiro contemplates how even though Yoshikage is a killer, he is willing to protect him as long as it makes him happy.

Back at the Kawajiris' place, Shinobu continues to notice her "husband" changing his lifestyle in many small ways. This soon comes to a head when their landlord shows up, demanding money that Kosaku had been failing to pay for several months. Despite Shinobu's insistence on taking out some cash from Kosaku's safe (which only the real Kosaku knew the combination to), Yoshikage pays the man upfront with enough money to cover the Kawajiris' debt both now and in the months ahead, while secretly using Killer Queen to implant a bomb on the landlord's bag. As the landlord leaves, Shinobu accuses her "husband" of having secretly stolen the money from him prior to today. However, despite this complaint, she finds his new behavior romantic.
