Stone Ocean - Episode 36
Made in Heaven, Part 1 (メイド・イン・ヘブン その①, Meido in Hebun Sono 1) is the thirty-sixth episode of Stone Ocean and the one-hundred-eighty-eighth episode of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: The Animation. The episode covers the last 4 pages of Chapter 148 to Page 13 of Chapter 152 of the original manga.
Enrico Pucci awakens his completed ability earlier than expected. Jolyne and her allies discover that time itself is beginning to accelerate, and that Pucci is the only living being accelerated with it. Only Jotaro Kujo and his ability to stop time altogether stand a chance against the priest.
Summary
Closer to reaching heaven, Pucci mockingly thanks the Joestars for helping him achieve his new power. Anasui is able to dive his way onto the shuttle, but as he sends a punch with Diver Down, a strange figure emerges from his arm. Pucci tells him that his ability is no longer C-MOON, and the light that engulfs him glows even brighter.
The group finds themselves to have strangely fainted. Jolyne wakes up to a news report of the events at Cape Canaveral and Pucci missing. Jotaro informs them that the space shuttle looks like it didn't move, but they have been transported 200 meters from their original location. It seems that gravity has returned to normal not long ago. Jolyne can only sense that the priest is nearby, but cannot detect him precisely. Jotaro continues to be bothered by how Pucci saw the harpoon in frozen time. When it begins to rain, Ermes retreats indoors but Jotaro advises her not to. Suddenly, the rain stops yet the group is already completely soaked. Ermes walks outside to inspect but her foot is caught in between the automatic sliding doors, as if they close and open too fast. Jotaro also notices that their clothes are already dry despite being drenched in mere seconds. When Anasui attempts to stop a stone from falling on Ermes's head, it had already struck her in a blink.
Strange events around Florida happen at the same time. The news report is disrupted by the sudden change in time schedules, and, in the horizons, the sun is already setting. A girl's ice cream melts before her tongue can touch the scoop. During a baseball game, a rookie pitcher is able to throw the ball faster than the batter can strike it. A girl who wipes the mucus from her nose finds the tissue to have already hardened with one swipe. When a slaughterhouse worker retrieves a meat inside a freezer, he finds himself frozen instantaneously. The batter successfully hits the ball flying, but when it flies back to the ground, it smacks the pitcher's face in bullet speed. A woman and her dog crossing a road are caught up in simultaneous car accidents when the traffic lights change in just seconds. In the sky, a helicopter crashes despite the readings on the equipment being normal.
Jolyne and the gang witness as the latter happens, and Ermes notes that Pucci was not bluffing. The blood on her and Jolyne's skin are already dry despite being fresh wounds, and stars are already drifting above the night sky. Jotaro observes his watch and finds that time is accelerating at an alarming speed. They realize that Pucci has fully completed his Stand's evolution. Jotaro and Jolyne spots a zooming figure approaching them from the shadows, and the former stops time briefly — but he only barely manages to find Pucci as time resumes. Anasui pulls him up on the roof just in time before Pucci can hit him.
Anasui introduces himself and his Stand to Jotaro. He then tells him that he will protect Jolyne at all costs before asking his permission to take his daughter's hand in marriage. Despite being aware that he is a murderer, his one-sided feelings for Jolyne, and feeling his hesitation for approval, he explains that she "shone light into the darkness of his heart". Jotaro, confused, asks if he has gone insane. Jolyne steps in between them to inform that she has unraveled Stone Free's strings across the roof. Anasui asks Jotaro's permission once more, but the latter grabs Jolyne closer. Dejected, Anasui remains silent.
Jotaro advises everyone that although Pucci seems to have cornered them with his ability to accelerate time, they have a small advantage of being on the roof. Since it takes two minutes for an hour to pass, this means that if he runs at 10 kph, he'll be at the speed of a bullet train in which the naked eye can naturally observe. Emporio notes that he is thirty times faster than everyone else. They also do not know what else are the capabilities of the evolved Stand. Catching a ghost of a zooming figure, Jotaro stops time once more to try and track Pucci and traces him on a palm tree using his new Stand to catapult himself towards them.
Jotaro barely has a second to send a barrage of punches until he is slashed at the neck. Jolyne yells in horror and tries to grab him which Pucci uses to his advantage. Again, Jotaro stops time, when he sees that Anasui used Diver Down to take damage in his place. Five seconds is not enough for him to move the team out of harm, so he moves closer to get Pucci in Star Platinum's range. Still, he misses. Pucci is no match for everyone — his next target is no longer Jotaro, but Anasui. He informs everyone that he did not gain the power to accelerate time to kill them, nor gain strength, but to use it to guide humanity to happiness. He finally reveals his Stand's name — Made in Heaven.
