Toru

Toru (透龍(とおる), Tōru) est l'antagoniste principal de la huitième partie de JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, JoJolion, et en tout le septième antagoniste principal de la série.

Toru est l'éminence grise derrière l'Organisation Locacaca, utilisant sont Stand Wonder of U comme seconde identité en tant que directeur général et médecin-chef de l'Hôpital Universitaire TG : Satoru Akefu. En même temps, Tooru se déguise en simple étudiant en médecine travaillant à temps partiel à l'hôpital. Il cherche à s'emparer du Nouveau Locacaca pour marchander ce remède miracle et devenir encore plus riche et puissant.

Apparaissant en tant qu'humain ordinaire, on apprend par la suite qu'il est un Homme-rocher et un manieur de Stand. Son Wonder of U est un Stand automatique qui se déguise parmi les humains. Wonder of U fait en sorte qu'une calamité tombe sur quiconque essaie de "poursuivre" Toru ou Wounder of U.

Apparence

Toru est un Homme-rocher qui a l'apparence d'un beau jeune homme de taille moyenne (un peu plus grand que Yasuho) et de carrure fine. Son trait le plus frappant est sa coiffure, qui consiste en une grande touffe bouffante de cheveux noirs avec des traits qui se courbent en spirales dans sa chevelure sans qu'on ne sache quelle est sa véritable nature. Dans des apparitions ultérieures, il n'y a qu'un trait dont les deux extrémités s'enroulent en spirale. Il a aussi des sourcils plutôt épais.

Toru porte un veston de couleur sombre par dessus un sweat à manches longues qui sont décorées d'un motif de trois lignes noires et qui ont des ours en peluches attachés aux épaules. Sur la poitrine droite de sa veste, Toru arbore un symbole singulier en "S" entouré d'un soleil. Il porte un symbole similaire plus petit au niveau de l'entrejambe. Son pantalon de couleur clair arbore un motif floral, ce qui semble être des vignes couvertes de feuilles.

Durant sa première apparition, Toru portait une blouse de docteur. On le voit régulièrement accompagné d'un petit iPod et d'écouteurs.

Toru est un homme-rocher a l'air placide et sympathique mais qui se révèle être le chef ambitieux et impitoyable de l'Organisation Locacaca malgré un certain penchant sentimental.

Tooru est amoureux de Yasuho...

Comme bon nombre d'hommes-rocher, Toru a des tendances antisociales. Mis à part Yasuho qu'il a rencontré il y a près d'une décennie et avec laquelle il a une forte affinité, Toru semble n'entretenir aucun lien social, n'ayant ni famille, ni famille, et ses alliés ayant été tous tué au moment où il est introduit dans l'histoire. En général, Toru a une attitude amicale, joviale et un peu familière qui cache son côté impitoyable, sachant qu'il garde la même attitude même lorsqu'il doit tuer ceux qui se dressent en travers de sa route.

...mais la tuerait pour s'emparer du Locacaca

Toru est un garçon très ambitieux. Durant une discussion avec Yasuho, Toru se plaint que sa jeune apparence l'a empêché d'avoir été pris au sérieux alors qu'il avait inventé une machine pour charger des appareils sans se connecter au réseau électrique, mais que les compagnies de technologie ont rejeté son idée parce qu'il semblait jeune et sans expérience. Il ajoute que durant sa jeunesse, il ressentait beaucoup d'anxiété et a fortiori de la colère a cause de ses ambitions entravées. Cependant nous ne savons pas à quelle point son histoire est vraie. Toru est en réalité surtout impliqué dans le trafic de Locacaca et dans un projet médical illégal pour créer un médicament miracle à partir du fruit qui pourrait soigner toutes les blessures. Toru révèle notamment qu'il le fait surtout pour devenir riche et puissant. Avec son Organisation Locacaca, Toru a mis en place une opération pour cultiver le Locacaca secrètement à l'Hôpital Universitaire TG, puis à faire secrètement des essais cliniques sur des patients de l'hôpital et même Holy Joestar-Kira afin de perfectionner son médicament Locacaca6251. Son ambition ne s'arrête pas là et alors qu'il est sur le point de s'emparer du Nouveau Locacaca, Toru se met encore à rêver de la fortune et du pouvoir qu'il aurait s'il parvenait à exploiter le pouvoir d'Echange Equivalent de cette nouvelle variété de Locacaca.

Toru a une affection tout particulière pour Yasuho Hirose. Leur relation a débuté près de onze ans avant les évènements de JoJolion lorsqu'il a rencontré Yasuho alors qu'elle n'était juste qu'une petite fille. Cette dernière l'a involontairement aidé à trouver une personne à usurper, et Toru avait été impressionné, assez pour lui dire qu'il voudrait la rencontrer à nouveau. Quelques années avant le début de la partie 8, Toru était devenu le petit ami de Yasuho (cette dernière ne se souvenant pas de leur première rencontre) et Toru avait chéri ce temps passé avec elle. Toru désire notamment renouer une relation avec Yasuho, le disant durant son introduction dans l'histoire. Après que Toru se soit séparé d'elle à cause d'une prétendue mauvaise passe psychologiquement, Toru demeure très familier avec Yasuho et flirte beaucoup avec elle, faisant toujours des gestes affectueux tels qu'entrelacer leurs doigts ou même juste s'approcher très près de son visage. Même si Yasuho est occupé et ne semble pas être vraiment intéressée, Toru insiste gentiment pour qu'il se remettent ensemble car il est convaincu qu'elle a toujours des sentiments pour lui. Il est tout de même assez confortable avec Yasuho pour blaguer avec elle et la taquiner, rappelant notamment en public qu'ils ont eut des relations sexuelles. En fin de compte, Toru essaiera d'être clément envers Yasuho et lui offrira la possibilité d'abandonner le Locacaca afin qu'elle ne soit pas tuée par son pouvoir. Malgré tout, lorsque Yasuho ignore ses avertissements, il laissera son pouvoir essayer de la tuer et essayera aussi de forcer un échange équivalent avec elle lorsqu'il sera en danger.

En tant que leader de l'Organisation Locacaca, Toru agit dans l'ombre et cache sa réelle identité derrière son Stand Wonder of U qui est déguisé et joue le rôle du médecin-chef de l'Hôpital Universitaire TG, Satoru Akefu. Toru lui-même a un poste banal d'infirmier à temps partiel à l'hôpital. Cette mascarade lui permet de jouer le rôle d'un étudiant en médecine ordinaire et de porter l'attention de ses ennemis vers son Stand lui-même, ce qui lui permet de rester caché durant presque toute la durée de l'histoire. Toru joue même les alliés, aidant Josuke Higashikata à retrouver Yasuho dans l'hôpital, ou pointant vers le médecin-chef alors que Josuke et ses alliés poursuivent Satoru Akefu, et promettant qu'il témoignerait pour Josuke après qu'un patient meurt dû aux répercussions du pouvoir d'Akefu et que Josuke semble être le coupable. Toru révèle sa réelle nature que très tard durant la lutte pour le Nouveau Locacaca. Dès qu'il révèle qu'il est l'ennemi, Toru est cependant satisfait d'attendre dans l'ombre, sachant que Wonder of U agit automatiquement et peut agir sur quasiment toute la ville de Morioh.

Tooru se cachant durant la lutte pour le Locacaca

En plus de sa volonté de cacher son identité, Toru a une nature très prudente et a pour priorité sa sécurité. Rien que la capacité de Wonder of U à se déguiser en humain pour concentrer l'attention et son pouvoir d'attaquer n'importe qui du moment qu'on veut le "poursuivre" témoigne de la volonté de Toru de se protéger. Toru va notamment décide de faire battre son Stand en retraite au moment où Josuke parvient à légèrement le blesser avec les bulles de Soft & Wet, sentant le danger pour sa personne et voulant absolument s'en éloigner. Par précaution, le Stand de Toru porte avec lui plusieurs insectes-rocher qu'il déploie pour attaquer ses ennemis sans l'aide de la calamité. Il va donc déployer Dododo De Dadada sur Josuke et Mamezuku lorsqu'ils essaient de l'attirer dans un piège puis envoie Obladi Oblada pour bloquer Josuke alors que ce dernier essaie de lui tirer dessus. Toru est cependant absolument confiant en la capacité de Wonder of U à le protéger. Même lorsqu'il est mis en danger, Toru est capable de persévérer et de prendre des décisions pour reprendre l'avantage. Il ne panique pas quand Josuke le blesse grabement et essaie alors de se guérir avec un Locacaca. Même lorsqu'il est blessé et encerclé, Toru a toujours la présence d'esprit d'insulter Kaato Higashikata et son fils Jobin pour la provoquer et ainsi déclencher son pouvoir, même si celà échoue.

Toru a une certaine philosophie et se concentre à plusieurs reprises sur l'idée des souvenirs et de la mémoire. Il dit notamment qu'au fil des années, tout ce qui demeure sont les souvenirs et les rêves que l'on s'est créé.

Toru semble avoir une appréciation particulière pour la musique occidentale. On le voit avec iPod et écouter des chansons telles que Crazy Train par Ozzy Osbourne ou The Wonder of You, la version d'Elvis Presley. On le voit aussi grignoter régulièrement des hamburgers, ou bien des frelons.

Pouvoirs et compétences

Stand

Tooru est un Homme-rocher et un manieur de Stand qui possède Wonder of U. Wonder of U possède une panoplie de capacités étranges. La première est qu'il peut manipuler une "énergie de calamité" et faire en sorte que quiconque le poursuive, Toru ou son Stand, seront frappés par le malheur, souvent fatalement. De plus, Wonder of U a la capacité de se déguiser en humain ordinaire et il assume l'identité de Satoru Akefu, le médecin-chef de l'hôpital universitaire TG. Enfin, Wonder of U semble avoir un pouvoir d'illusion, étant capable d'apparaître et de disparaître soudainement ou bien de se projeter sur des surface planes. De fait, il apparait à chaque fois qu'on veut poursuivre Toru.

Manipulation de la calamité

Quand Wonder of U est activé, les poursuivants se retrouvent constamment assaillis par divers phénomènes et objets qui visent à cogner contre eux, infligeant alors des blessures à la gravité disproportionnée à cause de la calamité. Par exemple, une goutte de pluie peut transpercer le corps. Ce pouvoir s'active dès lors qu'il y a volonté de "poursuivre" Akefu ou Toru. On ne connais pas la portée exacte de ce pouvoir mais il dispose d'une très grande portée, sachant que Toru était très loin de Josuke quand son pouvoir s'active. Le pouvoir s'arrête aussi au moment où les poursuivants ne veulent plus poursuivre Toru ou Akefu.

Connaissances technologiques/médicales

Toru explique qu'il est plutôt doué en technologie. Par exemple, il parle de la fois où il aurait inventé une plaque à induction électromagnétique pour charger des téléphones et autres machines sans câble et sans prise électrique car l'électricité viendrait du ciel. On peut aussi supposer que Toru est un médecin capable car il a travaillé sur le médicament Locacaca 6251 avec ses subordonnées à partir de recherches méticuleuses sur le Locacaca.

Toru émergeant d'un nid

Tooru, like other Rock Humans, was abandoned by his mother as a newborn and left in the wilderness. He shortly after infiltrated a wasp nest to continue his physical development. Approximately 17 years later, he rapidly matured into his adult body, killing the wasp colony in the process. He made up his own name, as with other Rock Humans, however his last name is unknown, and it is unknown if he stole the identity of another human or not. He then travelled to Morioh and entered society undetected.

Some time in 1941, as Lucy Steel investigates a mysterious land in Morioh, she and Joseph Joestar are caught up by a Guard Rail attacking them. As they run away, Lucy spots Tooru in the distance planting a Locacaca in a pot, before walking away.

It is implied that he had a hand in killing Rai Mamezuku's father as Wonder of U's human form was briefly seen at Mamezuku's Father's funeral.

Roughly ten years before the events of JoJolion, Tooru meets a young Yasuho Hirose, who was a little girl at that time. Noticing how she used her Stand Paisley Park to search through her mother's phone, Tooru impresses her by scraping two rocks together to make a fire while assuaging her doubts about him. Tooru asks for a favor and tells her to help him find someone, stating that he doesn't know their name but that he knows they are an elderly with a medical license and that they live alone and are isolated from their family. Yasuho finds him a suitable person for his Stand to impersonate, Satoru Akefu. Tooru gives Yasuho the rocks to impress the other children at Yasuho's summer camp and disappears into the trees, wishing to meet Yasuho again after she'll have forgotten about him.

It can be inferred that he began impersonating Satoru Akefu with his Stand Wonder of U after that.

Tooru and Yasuho were revealed to have dated in High School, although it is unknown why Tooru decided to attend the institution. Yasuho never learned his last name in their time together. He then became a part-time worker at TG University Hospital at an undisclosed date.

La Pression d'Ozon Baby

Tooru, along with his colleague Wu Tomoki, attempt to meet with Poor Tom to retrieve the grafted Locacaca branch. They disguise as ambulance drivers and arrive at the Higashikata orchard. As Poor Tom approaches the ambulance that Wu and Tooru are in, he is suddenly struck down by a calamity because of his "pursuit" for Tooru, killing him instantly. While the two manage to grab the branch after leaving Poor Tom behind, they are tricked by Jobin and Tsurugi Higashikata into getting an ordinary pear branch instead. They realize it was someone else other than Josuke and Poor Tom who lit the orchard on fire and that the other party now has the real Locacaca branch.

Tooru meets Yasuho again in the hospital

Tooru encounters Yasuho during her confrontation with Wu Tomoki at TG University Hospital. He teases Yasuho about their previous relationship, but otherwise, the two are on good terms, as he is shown following through his promise to relay her message through to Josuke.

Afterward, Tooru repeatedly crosses paths with her as Yasuho follows Josuke and Rai across the hospital. Each time, he flirts with Yasuho and tries to remind her of their time together. He ultimately calls Yasuho and leaves a message declaring his love for her and says he wants to get together again. When Josuke gets into trouble after being accused of murdering a patient who died near him, Tooru reassures Yasuho as he promises to testify in favor of Josuke.

Tooru later meets Yasuho by the doorsteps of her house. After a speech about Tooru's aspirations and relationship regrets, Tooru asks her again to get back together but Yasuho is distracted by her investigation. Tooru offers his help and shows Yasuho a photograph of Satoru Akefu. Having seen the doctor's face, as well as confirming a link between him and Mitsuba, Yasuho decides to go to the Higashikata House.

Tooru doesn't accompany Yasuho but instead eats fast food for lunch. Yasuho calls him and asks him for help since she's injured at the Higashikata estate. Tooru says that he'll call an ambulance but Yasuho refuses, saying that she has a way to heal herself. Intrigued, Tooru departs for the Higashikata estate. Once there, Tooru ignores Yasuho's suffering and simply observes the estate from the surrounding forest while listening to music. When Satoru realizes Josuke's plan of "inviting" the head doctor to come to him, Tooru shows great intrigue at the sudden development.

Joshu comes out of the house with the Locacaca plant in his hands and Tooru retreats into the forest to remain unseen. Observing Joshu and Yasuho, Tooru decides to let Yasuho eat the fruit to confirm its power. Plus, he doesn't feel threatened by her. While hiding, Tooru makes some noise, and unwittingly allows Yasuho to realize that he's her enemy.

Yasuho confidently claims that he is the user of the calamity-causing Stand and a rock human. She dwells on their strange past together such as their first meeting when a young Yasuho was out with her troop. Tooru tells Yasuho that he appreciates her and has fond memories with her, warning her about the danger of her seeing him, since it would activate a calamity, killing her instantly. He then goes on explaining how the Higashikatas are already under this affect, as well as Rai and Josuke who he claims will die soon as well. Yasuho takes Joshu's phone and begins scrolling through the contacts. Tooru again warns her, asking for outsider assistance would count as a pursuit and lead her to be the first to die. Yasuho continues with her action and Tooru states that Yasuho has changed the order of death, meaning that she will die through calamity soon.

Tooru tells Yasuho that she is going to die next, but Yasuho doesn't listen to him and continues to talk with Kei Nijimura in order to find Josuke. Moments later, Tooru receives a wound to the head thanks to the combination of Soft & Wet's bubbles and Born This Way's wind power. Tooru realizes that there is indeed a hidden power in Soft & Wet's bubbles.

Wounded, Tooru thinks about the nature of the attack. Sure that the "flow of calamity" uses the logic of this world to return any pursuit back at his foes in the form of a calamity, he realizes that Josuke's bubbles contains something from out of this world that isn't subject to the world's logic. Seeing that Josuke is too dangerous, Tooru decides to make his Stand leave the hospital even though he wishes to finish off Josuke. Tooru also reveals himself and confronts Yasuho, asking her to hand him the new Locacaca to prevent the calamity that will kill Yasuho from destroying it. Joshu, who has regained his senses, stands up and threatens Tooru, who remains unimpressed. The three of them spot something falling from the sky towards them. Tooru guesses that it is the incoming calamity and thus grabs Yasuho to insist she gives her the pot. Joshu thus tries to attack Tooru, but a falling leaf cuts two of his fingers. Overcome with pain, Joshu trips on Yasuho, allowing Tooru to take the potted Locacaca. Tooru then says his farewell to Yasuho.

Soft & Wet: Go Beyond

As Josuke keeps shooting bubbles at Wonder of U, Paisley Park suddenly transports one invisible bubble with it from the hospital to the house via the cell phone connection. The invisible bubble flies towards Tooru, disappearing and reappearing inside of his abdomen. This attack knocks away Tooru with the Locacaca pot and stops Wonder of U's calamity, saving Yasuho from the approaching plane panel that hits the Higashikata house instead. Josuke explains to Yasuho over the phone that the bubble from his shoulder cannot be controlled, but has an "invisible spin", and it was with Paisley Park's help that he was able to overcome the calamity using this profound ability. At the same time, Tooru gets back up and eats the remaining Locacaca fruit and runs towards Yasuho, bleeding out from his injury. Joshu attempts to stop him but a rain gutter strikes him on his head knocking him out. Tooru reaches Yasuho preparing to perform the exchange, but just in-time, Yasuho aims the phone at him and another invisible bubble shoots out piercing his chest and throat. Tooru is sent flying again, hitting a car and landing on the garage floor, he crawls towards the door in the garage where a mourning Kaato Higashikata stands.

Tooru crawls on the ground bleeding profusely, looking straight ahead at Kaato and planning to use her anger to bring out his ability. She begins to explain her stew recipe, which was Jobin's favorite. Tooru grabs a nearby saw and slowly gets back up. He begins to monologue about rocks atop the coastal cliffs, the memories and dreams it experiences. He taunts Kaato about her son's dreams and desires, how they never came to fruition. He attempts to stab Kaato but gets caught up in her stand's ability Space Trucking, the cards pin Tooru down and Wonder of U appears floating outside the garage. However, Kaato has no real intention to harm and instead begins to explain her ability. Tooru's bewildered about her true motives and questions her goals. When Kaato begins to open her deck of cards he immediately notices something between them and begins to panic. He demands to know what's between her cards, and Kaato answers that it's her family's curse. The deck is open and between those cards is Tsurugi Higashikata suffering from the Rock Disease. Tsurugi makes contact with Tooru and the equivalent exchange begins, Kaato's intentions are revealed. She came to the garage to perform an exchange on Tooru to cure Tsurugi.

The process of the exchange begins, despite having eaten the Locacaca fruit first Tooru still succumbs to the equivalent exchange. Kaato reveals the crushed branches within her cards, and pours the sap into Tsurugi's mouth. Wonder of U attempts to attack Kaato but it begins to crumble alongside Tooru. In desperation he begins to plead, arguing that the fruit is divine providence and begging Kaato to stop. Kaato brushes away his pleas, determined to cure Tsurugi's illness and bear this sin. Tooru begins to crumble further begs Yasuho to stop Kaato by reminding her of their previous relationship. Yasuho doesn't act and continues to watch. In his last moments, Tooru hallucinates seeing a hornet and crumbles away. Despite his death however, the calamity still manages to injure Kaato and is capable of manifesting as Wonder of U in Norisuke's mouth but fortunately, Josuke Higashikata comes to the scene and eliminates Wonder of U with his newfound ability, blasting the Calamity to bits.
