Gold Experience (黄金体験(ゴールド・エクスペリエンス), Gōrudo Ekusuperiensu) is the first episode of Golden Wind and the one hundred fourteenth episode of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure anime. It covers Chapter 440 through Chapter 443, the ending of Chapter 444 and the beginning of Chapter 445 of the manga.

Summary

It is the year 2001. Koichi Hirose travels to Naples, Italy, in order to find a boy named Haruno Shiobana upon Jotaro Kujo's request although Koichi doesn't know Jotaro's goal in investigating this boy.

Coming out of the airport, Koichi comes across a peculiar young man who can stuff his whole ear into its hole, and accepts a taxi ride from him. The young man then drives off with Koichi's luggage, making him use Echoes ACT3's 3 Freeze to stop the car, before the culprit confidently flees. Koichi overhears two airport security guards reveal the young man's name as Giorno Giovanna, and infers that Giorno might be Haruno Shiobana. When Koichi looks for his luggage, all he finds is a frog in the passenger's seat that hops away. He uses ACT1 to attempt to search for Giorno.

Meanwhile, Giorno meets with the gangster Leaky-Eye Luca, who attempts to take Giorno's money and attacks with his shovel. The frog appears and jumps onto Giorno, prompting Luca to attack it. His attack is reflected and he is put into a coma. Giorno reveals his Stand's ability as the frog turns back into Koichi's luggage. Koichi continues looking for Giorno and his stolen luggage, and when he finally finds him, he uses his Echoes ACT3's 3 Freeze to attack before he could escape. Giorno finally brings out his Stand, Gold Experience, and creates a tree to escape from Koichi. Koichi tries to attack, but the attempt is in vain due to Gold Experience's powers, and Giorno flees again.

After his battle against Giorno, Koichi calls Jotaro by telephone, and asks who Giorno is and what his relationship with Jotaro is. Jotaro says he is the son of DIO. Meanwhile, Giorno is riding a train, when a gangster named Bruno Bucciarati asks Giorno questions about Luca's death. Giorno lies to him and Bucciarati goes away. After, Giorno opens his hand only to find an eye enclosed, and Bucciarati reappears behind him and confirms he's lying by licking his face. Bucciarati begins to torture Giorno by using his Stand to make Luca's fingers appear from Giorno's mouth. Suddenly, Giorno retaliates with Gold Experience and prepares to fight Bucciarati.

Manga/Anime Differences

  • Koichi's dialogue about the year being 2001 and how humans already traveled all the way to Jupiter in the 2001: A Space Odyssey film he saw is omitted. Instead of Koichi, the episode begins with Giorno.
  • Several scenes are added compared to the original manga:
    • Expository scenes of the crime wave plaguing Naples such as frequent thefts, corrupt policemen, or drug deals are added.
    • Giorno's stroll through town is expanded upon, focusing on his interactions with other citizens.
    • A scene of Giorno kindly pickpocketing back a purse for two women is added, after it was snatched by a thief who bumped into them.
    • Gold Experience's ability is first demonstrated earlier than Giorno's encounter with Koichi. Giorno secretly steals money from the aforementioned woman's purse by turning the bills into butterflies and having them fly back to him.
    • Giorno buys an ice cream for himself and another kid he sees nearby.
    • Luca extorting and brutally beating up a man while learning about Giorno is added.
    • Flashbacks to Koichi being stabbed by the Arrow, the Arrow itself and DIO's battle against Jotaro is added.
    • Bruno can be seen following Giorno onto the trolley.
  • All of Koichi's narration is removed, such as him detailing the mission Jotaro gave him at the start as well as how he felt seeing Giorno's serene expression when Giorno "failed" to steal his luggage.
  • The photo of DIO that Giorno keeps in his wallet is the same image taken by Joseph Joestar during Stardust Crusaders, with the "Dio Brando" writing omitted.
  • Koichi using Echoes ACT1 to find Giorno is omitted. He calls out to the security guards nearby instead.
  • The scene where Koichi and Jotaro meet regarding Haruno Shiobana is moved to an outside cafe in Morioh.
  • Five girls crowded around Giorno to hang out with him at the cafe in the manga, but only three in the anime.
  • Echoes ACT3's 'S-H-I-T' and "BIIITCH' dialogue were removed after Giorno disappeared.
  • Jotaro's office was expanded upon, with many books, an aquarium, marine biology supplies, and displays of aquatic animals. He also has other pictures of Giorno when he was younger as Haruno Shiobana, as well as photos of DIO, Giorno's mother, and Giorno's stepfather.
  • The trolley Giorno encounters Bruno in is updated slightly for the time period.
  • Giorno's backstory as a child and dream of becoming a "gang-star" is omitted from its previous place in the narration.
