Purple Haze Feedback's prologue

Purple Haze Feedback (恥知らずのパープルヘイズ, Hajishirazu no Pāpuru Heizu, lit. "Shameless Purple Haze") is a light novel written by Kouhei Kadono, with illustrations provided by Hirohiko Araki. The novel was released on September 16, 2011 in Japan, as part of the special JoJo's Bizarre Adventure's 25th Anniversary project VS JOJO.

The novel serves as a sequel to Vento Aureo, the fifth part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series. Set six months after Giorno Giovanna's ascension to power, the story follows Pannacotta Fugo as he seeks redemption on a mission to eliminate the rogue Sezione Droghe.

Summary

Ⅰ.vitti 'na crozza

The story begins in the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan. Pannacotta Fugo, being escorted by Sheila E, is met by Guido Mista. After informing Fugo of the deaths of their allies and Giorno's new status as the boss of Passione, Mista orders Fugo to assassinate Massimo Volpe and the rest of Passione's narcotics team to prove his loyalty or else be killed. He also assigns Sheila E to accompany Fugo. Meanwhile, the narcotics team battles Sale and Mario Zucchero at the Villa San Giovanni. Sale is provoked into attacking by Vittorio Cataldi and subsequently killed by Vittorio's Dolly Dagger.

Ⅱ.me voglio fà 'na casa

Fugo and Sheila meet Cannolo Murolo in a hotel and exchange information on the narcotics team: Passione used Volpe's Manic Depression to synthesize high-quality drugs for free, leading to the gang's quick ascension in the drug business. Fugo reveals that Volpe was once his classmate, though they weren't familiar with each other. Sheila reveals that she joined Passione to kill Illuso, the assassin responsible for killing Sheila's sister; upon hearing of his death, she felt grateful to Giorno Giovanna for avenging her. Murolo's Stand, All Along Watchtower, divines the location of the narcotics team in Taormina, Sicily. They decide to investigate the island.

Ⅲ.'a vucchella

In Sicily, Fugo wonders why Giorno specifically picked him to assassinate Volpe. Sheila is lured away from her team by Mario Zucchero, who is revealed to be bait after a brief fight.

Ⅳ.tu ca nun chiagne

Vladimir Kocaqi meets Fugo and Murolo in the Teatro Greco and traps both with his Stand, Rainy Day Dream Away. Sheila finally meets Kocaqi, who reveals his tragic past in World War II and defeats her as well. Fugo then throws himself into the sky and exploits Kocaqi's Stand to attack him fatally with Purple Haze.

Ⅴ.mi votu e mi rivotu

After learning of Kocaqi's death, the Sezione Droghe decides to retrieve a Stone Mask in an old Nazi bunker to increase Volpe's power. Meanwhile, Fugo, Sheila, and Murolo track the narcotics team to Ortygia, Syracuse. On the way to their destination, their helicopter is attacked by Angelica Attanasio's Nightbird Flying; the Stand incapacitates the group and their pilot, leaving their helicopter to fall toward the sea.

Ⅵ.fantasia siciliana

Fugo accidentally wakes Sheila, who saves them both, leaving Murolo's fate unknown. The two survivors decide to steal a car. Now controlled by Angelica, the local citizens attack Fugo and Sheila, who escape with the car. Fugo is then thrown out of the car by Voodoo Child, as Sheila plans to split up for now.

While a weakened Angelica searches for Fugo, Sheila sees Volpe on the road; she tries to run over him, but Volpe, using his stand Manic Depression to increase his power, destroys the car instead. Meanwhile, in the Syracuse cathedral, Vittorio retrieves the Stone Mask, only to have it stolen by Murolo. Murolo destroys the Mask and reveals the true nature of his All Along Watchtower; Murolo also reveals that destroying the Mask was a secret part of the mission, an agreement between Passione and the Speedwagon Foundation to stop its menace. Vittorio attacks Murolo repeatedly, to no avail, until he dies from his own injuries.

Ⅶ.luna nova

Volpe remembers his own past during his fight with Sheila, revealing his apathy for the world around him and that he is, in fact, Tonio Trussardi's brother. Assailed by a mob, Fugo almost succumbs to them before Angelica expires, freeing Fugo again. Sheila, having been defeated by Volpe, is held hostage at the Temple of Apollo.

Up to this point, the story is frequently broken up by Fugo's flashbacks. Fugo was an intelligent child who got along with neither his wealthy family, who pushed him to academic excellence, nor his peers, who looked down on him because of his lineage. The only person he loved was his grandmother, but he was unable to attend to her funeral because of his studies. When a teacher taunted him about his grandmother, he bashed him in the head with a dictionary, and was soon thrown out of his university over the incident. Upon meeting Bruno Bucciarati in prison, the two formed a connection and Fugo joined Passione. Fugo bonded with his team, especially Narancia, whom he introduced to Bucciarati himself. At the same time, Fugo was tasked to carry out multiple assassinations, a fact he kept secret from Bucciarati knowing he wouldn't condone such actions. Fugo found himself conflicted between the moral wrongness of his world and his incapacity in changing it. Fugo then reminisces on his team's mission to escort Trish Una, during which he noticed Giorno Giovanna's potential. He finally remembers how every member of his team went on to do the right thing and accompany Bruno in his revolt against Diavolo, a decision he didn't understand and thus refused to go along with.

Fugo finally confronts Volpe; having finally found a common point with Sheila, he understands the empathy his old companions felt for each other and finds new resolve in it, upgrading Purple Haze. Before Volpe can make a fatal blow, Fugo breaks a virus capsule in his mouth and sprays the virus into Volpe's face, causing him to die a horrible death. Fugo then breaks another capsule to counter the previous virus and manages to survive, albeit hospitalized. As he passes out, Fugo notices that his Stand isn't the same as before.

Ⅷ.'o surdato 'nnammurato

A week later, Fugo meets Giorno in a restaurant. After a brief conversation, Giorno tells Fugo that the latter always thought differently from his peers, a difference which unconsciously infuriated Fugo and caused his short temper. Giorno reveals that the mission's true purpose was to help Fugo overcome his own demons. Upon being given a photograph of his old team, Fugo falls to his knees and finally swears loyalty to Giorno.

pista di bonus. The Mourning

After the events of Vento Aureo, Trish Una visits Bruno Bucciarati's tombstone. Incidentally, Bucciarati's mother also visits. When she asks Trish how Bucciarati died, Trish recalls when the group discovered Bucciarati's corpse in the Colosseum. Giorno admitted that he knew that Bucciarati was dead all along and that they worked together from the start to topple Diavolo. Angered at this betrayal, Mista almost shot Giorno, but Giorno persuaded him to let him live as the third surviving member of Team Bucciarati. In the present, Trish and Bucciarati's mother discuss their respective memories of Bucciarati and his righteousness, before ultimately weeping over Bucciarati's tombstone.
