GW Episode 36
Summary
In the Colosseum, it is revealed that Doppio was in Bucciarati's body all along. Having seen which body contains Diavolo's soul after Chariot Requiem's swap, Doppio is confident in their victory; however, he still feels lonely. All he can do is reach for a nearby cellphone, awaiting a call from his Boss as Bucciarati's dying body shuts down completely.
With Polnareff grabbing the Arrow, Chariot Requiem rushes toward Coco Jumbo, leaving only Mista able to protect him. Mista draws his revolver, but it has inexplicably broken - fortunately, he stole a handgun from a policeman earlier. He shoots Chariot in the face, protecting Polnareff at the cost of letting the berserk Stand retake the Arrow. During the reprieve, Mista asks Sex Pistols why the cylinder broke; No.5 suggests that Diavolo may have broken it, but the rest of Sex Pistols dismiss the idea. Suddenly, Chariot Requiem gets back up and resumes attacking Polnareff; since he's touched the Arrow, it perceives him as a threat.
Mista grabs Polnareff as he and Giorno cripple Chariot, but it doggedly continues to pursue its target. Mista tries to take refuge up a lamp post, but one of Chariot Requiem's hands emerges from inside the post to grab Polnareff; suddenly it inexplicably stops its attack and resumes walking.
The team is confused by Chariot Requiem's erratic actions, but Polnareff realizes that his former Stand's true ability is taking effect. A monstrous creature begins growing out of Polnareff's turtle body; the other denizens of Rome similarly begin to mutate, including the team.
Polnareff explains that Chariot Requiem can switch souls with "something else", effectively transforming everyone it affects into unknowable alien beings. Mista is particularly angered about this, lashing out on Polnareff before Bucciarati calms him, reminding him that they only need to stop Chariot Requiem to undo its rampage. Unbeknownst to the team, Diavolo's soul has discovered the way to defeat Chariot Requiem. He thus patiently waits for Team Bucciarati to come close to it again.
The team prepares to resume their pursuit, but Giorno suddenly shouts for them to stop moving and stay away from each other. He explains that he's examined Mista's discarded revolver and proves that it was sabotaged. Mista points out that nobody has approached them since the Colosseum; Giorno agrees, stating that Diavolo's soul must currently be in one of the teammates akin to a form of possession. As Giorno explains that Diavolo must not be able to dominate his current host, the Boss expresses irritation that the newcomer has accurately deduced his current state.
To detect Diavolo, Giorno plans to use Gold Experience's life-sensing ability to sense how many souls are in each of his friends. Having already cleared Polnareff of suspicion, he bites a wound into his own finger to use the Frenchman's trick for detecting any time erasures. Still unconvinced, Mista pulls his gun on Giorno, accusing him of carrying Diavolo's soul; Bucciarati thus asks Giorno to test him first. As Giorno approaches, letting blood drop on his own hand, time skips and King Crimson severs Gold Experience's hand before he can react.
Trish summons Spice Girl to protect Giorno, but it is revealed that Diavolo had been hiding with Trish's soul inside Mista's body all along, moving the body without Trish noticing. With Spice Girl in the open, King Crimson can now physically dominate her and manipulate Mista's body through it.
Evading Sticky Fingers, Diavolo skips time and begins to chase Chariot Requiem; Bucciarati realizes that Diavolo has a plan to take the Arrow from it. Mista shoots at Diavolo, but King Crimson's power allows the Boss to effortlessly evade every shot. With Giorno still tending to his wound, Bucciarati and Mista run after the Boss as he catches up to Chariot Requiem near the Ponte Sant' Angelo.
Moving around Chariot Requiem, Diavolo notices that its shadow is always be opposite from him, completely independent of the sun's light. He finally unravels the mystery of Chariot Requiem's nature; in truth, it is the shadow cast by the observer's soul. Realizing the implications, King Crimson punches behind Diavolo's head, hitting a small orb of light responsible for casting the shadow. Chariot Requiem collapses as a gaping hole is torn in its torso, allowing Diavolo to claim the Arrow.
Giorno suddenly intervenes from afar, turning the drops of his blood stuck on King Crimson's hand into a swarm of ants that gnaw through the shaft of the Arrow. Mista empties his clip to force King Crimson to defend itself while Sex Pistols ride some bullets to reach the Arrowhead, intending to knock it back to him and Bucciarati; however, a corpse suddenly gets in the way of the bullets while sending the Arrowhead back to King Crimson's feet. With Bucciarati still too far away and Mista forced to reload, neither of them can stop a "grateful" King Crimson from reaching for the Arrowhead...
...but then a bullet comes out of his hand and knocks the Arrow into the air. Spice Girl reveals that she softened the bullets that Mista shot at King Crimson, squashing them down to stick to its hand; she then reverted them to overcome her father and give Mista the Arrowhead. Infuriated at the interference, King Crimson punches Spice Girl in the stomach, mortally wounding Trish and sending Mista's body flying toward the Arrowhead.

Manga/Anime Differences
- In the manga, when Mista fires at Diavolo, Diavolo erases time and actively sidesteps out of the bullets' path. In the anime, he lets the bullets harmlessly pass through him.
- Diavolo's initial explanation of Requiem's shadow from before he reveals himself is omitted.
