    • Sessions in the North America region with the setting "Region: Same Region Only" will no longer match with regions other than North America, even in Custom Matches.

Modified Characters

1.3.1

The Version 1.3.1[d] update released on October 27, 2022.[1]

  • Online Battles
    • Corrected an issue in which players with a 100,000 difference in battle scores were not matched with each other in the session ID search.
    • Expanded the search range for when an opponent cannot be found in the ranked match search.

1.4.0

The Version 1.4.0[e] update released on December 2, 2022, at 12am UTC.[1][3]

It featured many changes to the core aspects of the game, and included the 2 new characters, Weather Report and Enrico Pucci (Final), as well as the new Stage, Kennedy Space Center.

  • Landings
    • The timing at which the technique could not be activated with a one frame reversal on landing from an aerial passive has been corrected so that it can now be activated.
    • After launching a back-jump attack and the attacker is attacked in mid-air, the landing after receiving in mid-air is no longer subjected to an unexpected recovery.
    • Fixed a bug that made it impossible to disengage from unguardable attacks such as stacking unguardable attacks after aerial passives.
  • Bound Hits
    • The position of the "hurt attack" for each character was significantly different, but this has been corrected to reduce the difference.
  • Stand Rushes
    • Fixed a gap in the Time Stop timing between the 1P side activation and the 2P side activation.
  • Guard Mechanic
    • Fixed a bug so now when "middle attack" and "low attack" are stacked exactly at the same time, the guard will succeed if either "crouching guard" or "standing guard" is executed.
    • Fixed an issue where players could block both the middle and lower stages of an attack if crouched in a continuous guard.
  • Taunt Animations / Provocations
    • When a performance with a camera effect was forced to end when there was more than 5 seconds of dialogue, the camera would start moving earlier than intended.

1.6.0

The Version 1.6.0[h] update was released on March 20, 2023, at 1am UTC.[10], bringing a list of balance changes, as well as making room for the new paid DLC, Keicho Nijimura. A bug fix for the Practice Mode was also noted.

  • Backstepping
    • Standardized the hurtbox area around the feet.
      • The purpose of this is to remove imbalances in different characters' ability to escape deployed projectiles while getting up from being downed.
  • Direction of counter HHA flying
    • Adjusted the force that sends opponents flying to the direction the initiating character is facing.
      • Under certain situations, when performing a successful counter, the target would go flying in the opposite direction from that suggested by the attack animation.
  • Guardbreak
    • Reduced damage to combos that start out of guardbreak.
      • Reduces the reward for performing a guardbreak while maintaining the ability to pursue that guardbreak.
  • Damage received during skills that don't cause the victim to recoil (e.g. Jonathan Joestar's "Tackle")
    • Allowed damage taken during rebound protection to receive damage reduction.
    • Changed counterstrikes to not occur while taking damage from attacks that do not cause rebound.
      • Improves usability in neutral.
  • Damage received during attacks that do not cause recoil while in Resolve Mode
    • Allowed damage taken during rebound protection to receive damage reduction.
    • Changed counterstrikes to not occur while taking damage from attacks that do not cause rebound.
      • Improves usability in neutral.
  • Recoil caused by leg sweep attacks
    • Shortened animation lead-in and sped up transition to downed state.
      • This was changed due to certain attacks that allow additional attacks on downed opponents to fail due to recoil invincibility.
  • The pivot line when characters swap positions in the air
    • Resolved inconsistencies between characters' positional pivot lines and the center of their collision detection.
      • Under certain circumstances, when jumping attacks hit the opponent in the back, they were less likely to fall frontward.
      • This prevents confusion from guard direction working opposite to what is expected.
  • Collision detection for characters pushing each other
    • Removed Stand collision detection during standing and crouching recoil animations.
      • Under certain circumstances, when jumping attacks hit the opponent in the back, they were less likely to fall frontward.
      • This prevents confusion from guard direction working opposite to what is expected.
  • Crouching recoil animation
    • Fixed a rare issue where being hit during the Stylish Guard's recovery would cause the crouching recoil animation to trigger.
      • Ensures that recoil animations are appropriate to the situation.
  • Practice Mode
    • Fixed issue where Recording Mode would not record Stand Mode follow-up skills and Stand Rush.
  • Gallery item
  • Customize

The following is a list of characters that got major modifications in this update.

2.0

The Version 2.0[i] update was released on June 12, 2023, at 1am UTC.[11], bringing a list of balance changes, as well as making room for the new paid DLC, Parallel World Diego. Furthermore, this update holds many improvements to other aspects of the base game.

  • Display of character models in online battles
    • Fixed bug where character appearances would be partially corrupted.
  • Online Battles
    • Added Standby Practice Mode, allowing players to use Practice Mode while waiting to match with an opponent.
      • Allows players to use their time effectively while waiting for matchmaking.
      • Match notifications will not occur while in the Pause menu.
    • Changed matchmaking rules so that if Host Match is selected, the game will still search for a match once, then go to Standby if one is not immediately found.
      • If Private Slots are enabled or the Session ID is set, this search will not occur when the session is created.
      • This change ensures that matchmaking is not impacted by lower numbers of users selecting Custom Match as a result of the introduction of Standby Practice.
  • Ranked Match Presets
    • Made it so that the Ranked Match Presets view/edit screen is accessed through a menu rather than a button press.
      • Makes the screen easier to discover.
  • Stylish Guards
    • Previously, performing a Stylish Guard would only stop the opponent's character. Now, it will also stop your own Assist Character.
    • Under some circumstances, when one character uses Stylish Guard, the other character could also activate Stylish Evade even when not being attacked. Stylish Evade is now correctly disabled under these circumstances.
  • HH Gauge
    • Under some circumstances, if the controlled character and an Assault Assist scored a hit on the same frame, the HH Gauge would not recover. The HH Gauge now correctly recovers under these circumstances.
  • Backstepping
    • Fixed the collision of some short characters so that they match where the character appears to be when backstepping, rather than extending above the visible character. These characters include:
  • Dodges
    • Enabled canceling dodge recovery into a forward step.
      • Expands options for closing distance against projectile zoning.
  • Down Evades
    • Standardized general actions that previously differed by character.
  • Taunts
    • Fixed an issue where, when both players taunt and then one takes action immediately after the taunt voice clip ends, the opponent's in-progress taunt voice clip would end early.
    • Fixed an issue where some SFX would remain on the screen after the completion of a taunt usable against a downed opponent.
    • Fixed an issue where the taunt animation would end before the opponent's HH Gauge was drained, when using a taunt usable against a downed opponent which has a short voice line.
    • Fixed an issue where the HH Gauge would be drained at a different timing on the Switch version than on other platforms, when using a taunt usable against a downed opponent.
  • Cancels
    • Fixed an issue where canceling sometimes didn't work when the controlled character landed a hit at the same time as an Assist Attack or projectile.
  • Recoil animations
    • Fixed an issue where some recoil animations of some characters would shift, causing problems such as combo attacks failing to connect.
  • Time Stop
    • Fixed an issue where some projectiles would retain their hitbox even in stopped time if they were deflected at the same moment time stopped. These moves include:
  • Assists
    • Fixed an issue causing the partner character to vanish when the partner's main character is hit by Old Joseph Joestar's Assault Assist. These characters include:
    • Adjusted uses of Assault Assists and Reversal Assists. These include:
    • Fixed an issue where a use of the Assist would not be spent, but would still go on cooldown if used as a Reversal Assist just before entering a follow-up skill’s special animation.
    • Fixed an issue where an Assault Assist would lose its hitbox under some circumstances if the controlled character was hit by an attack.
  • Customize Mode
    • Fixed an issue where the SFX position wouldn't be saved after editing if the user then goes to change SFX position or preview another character.

The following is a list of characters that got major modifications in this update.

2.1.0

The Version 2.1.0[j] update was released on August 28, 2023, at 1am UTC.[12], bringing a list of balance changes, as well as making room for the new paid DLC, Leone Abbacchio.

  • Mounted
    • Fixed an unintended issue where, when landing from being airborne without attacking only in Mounted Mode, there was a very short time before the frame where the player could move or jump.
    • Changed so that the player is no longer considered to be in a low-altitude aerial state while mounting, and is instead considered standing. This removes its functionality as a low-risk escape method that would otherwise help to avoid opponent's follow-up attacks.
    • Normal attacks while mounted now all have the ability to deal chip damage even if guarded against with skills. This change fixes some Mounted Mode normal attacks that did not deal damage.
  • Command Input Detection
    • Changed standing and crouching normal attack input detection from using the direction of the stick tilt when the attack is activated, to using the direction of the stick when the button is pressed. This ensures that some attacks are not unintentionally performed because of early inputs while comboing.
  • Down Evade
    • Down Evade is now possible when an opponent is flying and the Same Move Limit has been reached.
    • Fixed an issue where, if an attack would ordinarily not allow Down Evade, but reaches its Same Move Limit and Down Evade is performed, the hurtbox would extend too far upward.
  • Character Tangibility on Ground
    • Fixed an unintended issue causing certain pairings of characters to pass through each other when dashing into one another.
  • Teleporting
    • Fixed an unintended issue causing some characters with teleports (abilities that let them instantly change position) to teleport incorrectly when near a wall. For example:
  • Stylish Guard after an Aerial Recovery
  • Armor
    • Fixed an unintended issue causing characters hit by the following skills while in an armor state (from skills that prevent recoil animation while in effect) to appear to keep burning:
  • Assists
    • The following characters have had their assist attacks adjusted to bring them more in-line with others:
      • Dio Brando -> 1 Assault Assist (-1), 2 Reversal Assists (+1)
      • Muhammad Avdol -> 2 Assault Assists (same), 1 Reversal Assist (-1)
      • Lisa Lisa -> Changed from "You picked a bad time to test me!" to "Snake Muffler"
      • Ermes Costello -> Changed from User Mode to Stand Mode version of the attack
  • Player Cards
    • Adjusted the designs of several Player Cards.
  • DLC Character
    • Various updates to content and modes to make way for Leone Abbacchio:
      • Character Select
      • Gallery Items
      • JoJo Glossary
      • Customization

The following is a list of characters that got specific modifications in this update.

2.2.0

The Version 2.2.0 [k] update was released on October 16, 2023, at 1am UTC.[13], bringing a list of balance changes, as well as making room for the new paid DLC, Yuya Fungami.

  • Hit behavior when launched
    • Fixed an issue where if an opponent was hit with an attack that was meant to lift them just before they hit the ground, they would become downed rather than be lifted.
  • Collision Boxes
    • Fixed an issue where both characters would slide when they were in contact and pushed against each other.
  • Recovery
    • Fixed an issue where some attacks that did not allow the opponent to recover out of them would still allow the opponent to recover. (Ex. When Iggy hits Jotaro Kujo during his "My Stand will be the judge!" skill's armor period and is then hit by the skill itself, Iggy will recover out of it despite the fact the skill is supposed to cause a hard knockdown and not be recoverable.)
  • Assault Assits [Nintendo Switch Only]
    • Fixed an issue where Assault Assists that do not have a projectile or otherwise deploy something could still hit after downing an opponent by using the Assault Assist before performing a Taunt on the downed opponent.
  • Landing After Aerial Recovery
    • Fixed an issue where some characters could not Stylish Guard at the moment they landed after being knocked off their horse and performing an aerial recovery. These characters include:
  • Assists
    • Fixed an issue where if an attack button and the assist button were pressed at the same time while jumping, the Assist Icon would turn pink when the assist was unusuable.
  • ASB Mode
    • Fixed an issue causing the "Hit with a GHA" Secret Mission to be impossible to complete.
  • DLC Character
    • Various updates to content and modes to make way for Yuya Fungami:
      • Character Select
      • Gallery Items
      • JoJo Glossary
      • Customization

The following is a list of characters that got major modifications in this update.

2.3.0

The Version 2.3.0 [l] update was released on December 4, 2023, at 1am UTC.[14], bringing a list of balance changes, as well as making room for the new paid DLC, Wonder of U.

  • Hitstun animation on ground
    • Made it so it is now possible to perform more actions (normal attacks, skills, dodge, jump, etc.) other than only guard or Stylish Evade when transitioning from a hitstun animation to an idle state.
  • Hurtbox when launched
    • Adjusted the hurtboxes of some characters when they are launched vertically.
  • Hitstun animation when hitting aerial opponent
    • Normal attacks will no longer override the hard knockdown state an aerial opponent is put into when they are hit with an attack that normally causes a crumple, preventing opponents from being able to prematurely recover from a combo via an automatic aerial recovery.
  • Recovery from attack animations
    • Made it so when inputting a Stylish Guard on the last recovery frame of an attack recovery animation, a Stylish Evade will be performed.
  • Jumping Hurtboxes
    • Standardized characters' hurtboxes when jumping so their legs no longer have a hurtbox after frame 2 of their jump.
  • Counters
    • Counters now apply damage scaling to follow-up combos.
    • Fixed a bug where a character's model would briefly turn black when activating a counter with an aerial attack that hit behind the countering character.
  • Mounted
    • Fixed a bug where a character could perform an aerial recovery when getting hit by an attack that normally prevents an aerial recovery (including a Reversal Assist) if they were hit when changing to or from Mounted Mode.
    • Changed so Quick Mount's hitbox will no longer spawn if the mounting character is hit by an attack before the Super Armor of the move activates.
    • Changed so while performing Quick Mount, the mounting character will no longer be forced back into User Mode if they are hit by an attack after the Super Armor deactivates.
    • Mounted characters can now be affected by normal throws, and when they are, they will automatically perform a Throw Escape and aerial recovery, leaving them in an airborne state in User Mode.
    • Mounted characters can now be hit by all Command Throws.
    • When a Mounted character is hit by a move that would normally result in a hard knockdown, such as a sweep, they will now be put into a launched state that allows for aerial recovery and be forced into User Mode.
  • Practice Mode
    • Added the ability to set both player and opponent health.
    • Added the ability to set both player and opponent Guard Gauge amount.
    • Moved the Heart Heat Gauge settings to the newly added Gauge Settings page.
    • Fixed a bug where characters could appear outside of the arena bounds if either Retry or Saved Retry Positions was selected while a Mounted character was backdashing.
  • DLC Character
    • Various updates to content and modes to make way for Wonder of U:
      • Character Select
      • Gallery Items
      • JoJo Glossary
      • Customization

2.3.2.0

The Version 2.3.2.0 [m] update was released for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass for PC on December 11, 2023[15], fixing an issue where the Online Match ranking score could show as "0".

2.3.3 (Current)

The Version 2.3.3 [n] update was released on February 9, 2023, at 1 am UTC.[16], bringing a list of balance changes.

  • Taunt
    • Fixed an issue that allowed Stylish Guard and Throw Escape inputs to be buffered during a Taunt.
    • Made it so Stylish Guard and Guard can no longer be used during a Taunt.
  • Assault Assists
    • Fixed an issue where an Assist character's attack vector could be off if the player used Dodge while the Assault Assist was attacking. It will now continue to attack on the same axis as where it was called instead of shifting.
  • Stage Gimmicks
    • Fixed an issue causing sound effects to stop playing.
