Leone Abbacchio (レオーネ・アバッキオ, Reōne Abakkio), along with Moody Blues, was confirmed for All-Star Battle R as the first DLC character for the game's Season Pass 2, as well as the fifth paid DLC character overall, on August 18, 2023.[1] He released on August 30, 2023 for Season Pass 2 owners and is slated to release for everyone else on September 1.[2] He is included in the game's second season pass, and consequently the Ultimate Edition as well.[1]

Having neither previously appeared in All-Star Battle nor Eyes of Heaven as a playable character, Abbacchio has an original moveset based on his appearance in Vento Aureo.

In the English version of All-Star Battle R, the name of Abbacchio's Stand, Moody Blues, is localized as "Moody Jazz", the same name used in the original All-Star Battle.

As the voice actor of Abbacchio in the Golden Wind anime, Junichi Suwabe reprises his role in All-Star Battle R as well.

Gameplay

Abbacchio is unique when it comes to other characters with the Stand on/off style, as while many characters play relatively similar with Stand on or off, Abbacchio's playstyle changes drastically.

In Stand off, Abbacchio has access to the unique passive known as Replay. When Abbacchio performs a command skill, Moody Blues will then perform a version of the last skill used (or the first one used, if no commands have been performed yet). This passive turns Abbacchio into a pressure-heavy rushdown fighter, capable of performing high-low mixups and long combo strings with ease.

In Stand on, Abbacchio fits more of a grappler archtype. With two command grabs and a punch barrage at his disposal, he's capable of dealing high damage at close range. He also has the unique skill There it is. That's it. (あった…これだ), allowing him to cover space and dodge various attacks, letting him get up close and beat down his opponent.

Abbacchio's main weakness comes in the form of zoning, or lack there of. With all his moves requiring him to be at close range, characters with an array of projectiles can easily zone him, even if he can get up close with his unique dash, the lack of invincibility to throws makes it risky on those waiting for moments to strike.

In summary, Abbacchio is a powerful close-ranged fighter, capable of switching between rushdown and grappler, both with high damage and pressure.

While in User Mode, Moody Blues will passively record and store the last skill Abbacchio performs. When he performs another User Mode skill, the Stand is automatically summoned to "replay" the recorded skill immediately after Abbacchio's own attack, taking Abbacchio's form in the process. This results in each inputted skill executing two attacks in succession: the inputted one by Abbacchio followed by the recorded one by Moody Blues, allowing for a variety of different attack combinations. The recorded skill will also copy the exact (ASBL.png/ASBM.png/ASBH.png) variant inputted. In the case of Abbacchio performing a skill for the first time in a round, Moody Blues will simply Replay that same skill as its own follow-up.

However, if Abbacchio is struck before or during Moody Blues performing its attack, the Replayed skill will fail. Replay will also not trigger if Abbacchio Flash Cancels a skill, though said skill will still be recorded and overwrite the previously recorded skill.

Resolve Mode (覚悟モード)
Activates below 20% health
This mode is automatically activated once Abbacchio falls below 20% health. It increases his attack power, as well as the rate at which the Heart Heat Gauge rises. He also gains super armor during the startup of all his normal attacks and skills.

Stating that the opponent gets an "exclusive viewing", Abbacchio steps forward and throws a strong hook while he glows with a blueish-green aura. If it connects, he will proceed to kick the opponent in the gut to knock them into the air before uppercutting them. He will then summon Moody Blues to replay his three strikes while he walks away. The final uppercut Moody Blues throws is given extra wind-up and sends the opponent flying into the air.

Abbacchio strikes a pose and turns as Narancia suddenly appears from behind him to throw a punch, asking the opponent if they're a bad guy. If the punch connects, it will knock the opponent down and cause them to bump into Mista's leg. Turning around, Mista angrily asks who they are. Narancia threatens to kill them before the two begin stomping on the opponent mercilessly. Seeing this, Abbacchio takes a moment to sigh before suddenly joining in on the beatdown. The three allies stomping the helpless opponent, Abbacchio finishes the assault by letting out a cry and throwing one last kick to send them flying. All three of them look on with varying levels of worry as Abbacchio questions if their attack was excessive. Narancia, who appears the most nervous, comments that the situation is bad before he jumps back off-screen.

If the attack misses, Abbacchio sighs with a "Whew..." (はぁ~). When fighting against Narancia or Mista themselves, if the opponent has chosen the default color palette, the character(s) that help Abbacchio will appear with a different color palette, not unlike in a mirror match. If Abbacchio has one of the two as his Assist, they will instead use the palette the player chose for them.

Abbacchio's Tag Lines are also included, excluding several from the original All-Star Battle, which can be unlocked in the base game by completing ASBR Secret Mission.png 210 Secret Missions in All-Star Battle Mode. Abbacchio appears as the guide character for the Sound Test sub-mode in the Shop & Gallery Mode. Abbacchio and Moody Blues also appear in the background of the sub-mode at all times. Its name is taken from a line he says before sacrificing his hand to deliver a key to Giorno in Chapter 44 of Vento Aureo.

Trivia

  • Abbacchio's Replay passive is reminiscent of Bedman from Guilty Gear Xrd's "Deja Vu" mechanic, with both allowing their respective characters to replay their previous skills to create unique combos and put pressure on the opponent. Unlike "Deja Vu", however, Abbacchio's Replay happens automatically when performing a skill.
