Esidisi (エシディシ, Eshidishi) was confirmed for All-Star Battle R during the game's initial announcement trailer.[1]

Although his moveset remains fundamentally the same as his from All-Star Battle, a few tweaks have been made to both balance the character and fit him into the overall gameplay changes that All-Star Battle R brought.

As Keiji Fujiwara, Esidisi's voice actor in the Battle Tendency anime, All-Star Battle, and Eyes of Heaven, passed away in April 2020,[3] Esidisi is one of the few characters to re-use voice lines from his past appearances.

Gameplay

Esidisi has 800 health and uses the Mode (モード, Mōdo) Style, which allows him to toggle use of his unique Mode at any time during battle, at the cost of draining his Heart Heat Gauge. Furthermore, as a Pillar Man, part of the damage Esidisi receives from non-Ripple attacks is automatically converted into recoverable gray health.

Heat Control (熱を操る流法(モード))

Activating "Heat Control" causes Esidisi to heat up his surroundings, creating a burning aura. Opponents near him will slowly take continual burn damage, which appears as white health. Additionally, his skills are enhanced, and he gains access to two new skills. While active, attacking, guarding, and taking damage will not build Heart Heat. The mode can be canceled at any time by inputting ASBS.png again. If Esidisi is knocked down, this mode will be forcibly deactivated. It will also be automatically deactivated if Esidisi uses his Heart Heat Attack.
The Burning King (怪焔王(かいえんのう)流法(モード))

Expending one stock of the Heart Heat Gauge causes Esidisi to heat up his surroundings, creating a burning aura. Opponents near him will slowly take continual Burn damage, which appears as white health. It also enhances his skills even further than "Heat Control" and grants access to two new ones. While active, attacking, guarding, and taking damage will not build Heart Heat, but Esidisi can activate his HHA for no cost. However, activating it will automatically cancel this mode. It will also be forcibly canceled if Esidisi is knocked down.

Esidisi slides a short distance forward and delivers a fast upward kick that knocks the opponent off their feet. A command normal that can chain into Esidisi's skills. (Comboable)

Rumble Mode (ゴゴゴモード)
Activates below 30% health
This mode is automatically activated once Esidisi falls below 30% health. It increases his attack power, as well as the rate at which the Heart Heat Gauge rises, while also decreasing the rate at which the Guard Gauge drops.

Esidisi launches his veins out of his fingertips forwards, striking the opponent multiple times. The distance Esidisi's veins will reach, number of hits, and damage will increase in ASBL.pngASBM.pngASBH.png order, but the greater the increase, the longer the recovery. (Flash Cancel comboable)

While "Heat Control" or "The Burning King" (the install) is active, the attack is changed to Esidisi launching veins from his whole upper body in a forward barrage, massively increasing the attack's general range. "The Burning King" will increase the range more than "Heat Control". The follow-up skill "Simmer like a stew!" also becomes available while either mode is active.

While "Heat Control" or "The Burning King" (the install) is active, the attack is changed to Esidisi launching veins from his whole upper body in an entanglement, now hitting multiple times and capable of also hitting a standing opponent.

The Burning King: Wheel of Pain (怪 焔 王 大 車 獄(かいえんのうだいしゃごく)流法(モード))

Esidisi somersaults forward into the air before unleashing veins from all over his body. The attack's position and direction changes depending on the attack button inputted.
  • Light (ASBL.png): Esidisi unleashes veins in a forward attack immediately upon leaving the ground, launching the opponent. (Flash Cancel comboable)
  • Medium (ASBM.png): Esidisi jumps high into the air before his somersault and unleashes veins in a downwards attack after reaching the apex of his leap, locking the opponent in place for a moment before they crumple to the ground. (Comboable)
  • Heavy (ASBH.png): Esidisi leaps forward and unleashes veins in a backwards attack as he somersaults, knocking the opponent off their feet. Esidisi doesn't leap as high as he does with the ASBM.png, resulting in him passing through the opponent if they are close enough. This is a cross-up attack meant to suddenly switch to the opponent's other side and strike before they can properly guard. (Flash Cancel comboable)

While "Heat Control" or "The Burning King" (the install) is active, this skill will deal more damage.

Esidisi sends veins from his feet across the ground. If it connects, the opponent is momentarily bound and then launched towards Esidisi. The damage dealt and distance the opponent is launched increases in ASBL.pngASBM.pngASBH.png order, but the greater the increase, the longer the recovery. (Comboable)

While "Heat Control" or "The Burning King" is active, the opponent will be burned if they are hit, causing them to take damage over time. Damage of the skill overall is also increased with the increase being greater in "The Burning King" mode than "Heat Control" mode.

While either "Heat Control" or "The Burning King" is active, Esidisi fires off his flaming blood in ball-like projectiles forward. The number of projectiles depend on which mode is active.

Esidisi begins to quietly weep. If the opponent strikes him with a non-HHA/GHA melee attack, he'll openly and dramatically bawl before suddenly composing himself. This steals a quarter of a bar of the Heart Heat Gauge from the opponent.

This skill cannot be used if either "Heat Control" or "The Burning King" are active.

Esidisi moves forward and executes the fire-powered kick he used to murder Loggins. If the kick connects, it will hit the opponent in the abdomen, making them go limp as they are lifted off the ground. Using the other leg, Esidisi knocks the opponent off in a roundhouse-style jump kick. The HHA replenishes a small amount of Esidisi's health on success, as he drains the opponent's blood during the initial kick.

Esidisi sends out a large amount of his veins from all over his body in a forward strike. If they connect, the opponent is immobilized as the veins force their way into their body. Gleeful, Esidisi begins slowly pumping his boiling-hot blood into them, incinerating them from the inside-out as a fiery explosion occurs.

This GHA is an enactment of Esidisi's failed attack on Joseph Joestar, before being interrupted by Joseph's winning move. Although the attack was never completed in the story, the game shows the possible sequence in full.

Esidisi's jump arc is now altered while the install is active as well, and he will not jump as far forward as he did in All-Star Battle. Additionally, the name of this install has changed slightly. Previously it was "Heat Control Mode" in place of "Heat Control".
The Burning King

This install will no longer turn the HH gauge into a timer. As such, this install will be active until Esidisi is either knocked down or he uses his HHA. When Esidisi uses his HHA during this install, it will cost him no Heart Heat instead of emptying the rest of his HH gauge, regardless of the number of stocks he has. Esidisi's jump arc is now altered while the install is active as well, and he will not jump as far forward as he did in All-Star Battle. Additionally, the name of this install has changed. Previously it was "Erratic Blaze King Mode" in place of "The Burning King".
Outta the way!

Esidisi launches the opponent into a higher arc now, causing the opponent to be the in the air for longer and making this command normal easier to combo off of. It also no longer hard knockdowns, instead causing a soft knockdown when the opponent hits the ground. Furthermore, Esidisi moves a farther distance forward than he did in All-Star Battle.

The Burning King []

While the animation remains the same, the actual reach of the skill's hitbox now increases in ASBL.pngASBM.pngASBH.png order, resulting in Esidisi's veins passing through opponents without hitting them at longer ranges when using the weaker variants. Also, while "Heat Control" or "The Burning King" (the install) are active, the damage of this skill is no longer increased. When hitting an airborne opponent, this skill now stops the opponent's momentum. Additionally, the translation for this skill has changed from its previous title of "'Erratic Blaze King' Mode".

When hitting an aerial opponent, this skill now knocks the opponent to the ground in a soft knockdown. This skill also no longer hits multiple times unless Esidisi has one of his installs active. When one of his installs are active, the skill now knocks the opponent a small distance into the air if they are grounded.
The Burning King: Wheel of Pain

The input for this skill has been changed. Previously it was ASBDPad4.pngASBDPad1.pngASBDPad2.pngASBDPad3.pngASBDPad6.png in place of ASBDPad6.pngASBDPad3.pngASBDPad2.pngASBDPad1.pngASBDPad4.png. Also, this skill can now be used while airborne. Each variant of this skill has its own changes as well.
  • Light (ASBL.png: This variant does not launch opponents as far as it did in All-Star Battle.
  • Medium (ASBM.png: Esidisi does not jump as far forward as he did in All-Star Battle. When an opponent is hit, they are now held in place for a moment before suffering a crumple rather than a groundbounce.
  • Heavy (ASBH.png: Esidisi does not jump as far forward or as high as he did in All-Star Battle. This results in Esidisi often passing through the opponent rather than jumping over them if he's close enough. The hitbox has been extended backward, meaning that even if Esidisi does not manage to cross onto the other side of the opponent, they can still be hit by part of the attack (up to three hits) if they're close enough to Esidisi's back. However, they will not be launched.

Additionally, the translation for this skill has changed. Previously it was "Erratic Blaze King: Wheel of Pain" in place of "The Burning King: Wheel of Pain".

Instead of pulling the opponent across the ground, directly to Esidisi, they are launched into the air towards Esidisi. Because how far the opponent gets launched increases along with the strength of the attack button inputted, this means that the opponent may not reach Esidisi when a weaker variant is used. They can also be launched over Esidisi.
