Summary
Bucciarati has collapsed on the ground just in front of the Colosseum; his body seems to have reached its limits following his victory over Secco. Doppio stands just behind him, ready to finish him off - however, he stays his hand. Instead, he offers to help Bucciarati reach his destination, planning to find out what the rogue capo is after. Although Bucciarati initially refuses Doppio's assistance, his path is blocked by the road where speeding cars constantly pass; thus, he reluctantly asks Doppio to carry him to the Colosseum. When Bruno trips on a handrail and a car nearly crashes into him, Doppio grabs his hand and feels that his body is unnaturally cold; moreover, he also sees that Bruno has gone blind, yet he can still see a wound on Doppio's neck left by Risotto Nero. An intrigued Doppio reflects on Bruno's strange condition as he helps him cross the street, but his thoughts are interrupted when he sees Mista coming around the corner.
Doppio immediately hides both himself and Bucciarati behind a pillar, confusing the latter. With Bucciarati growing suspicious of him, Doppio decides to strike before Mista sees them, only to be stopped by a call from Diavolo. The Boss tells Doppio to stay his hand, expressing his suspicions that Bucciarati has become a walking corpse; he can only see things through the energy of their spirits now. Taking advantage of this, Diavolo partially exposes his soul within Doppio so that he can emit the same aura as his daughter Trish and fool Bucciarati into mistaking Doppio for her. This plan works, but the real Trish feels Diavolo's presence, causing both Giorno and Mista to rush to her side; meanwhile, Doppio carries Bucciarati inside the Colosseum unnoticed.
As they move through the Colosseum, Bruno promises "Trish" that she can live in his house and enjoy a decent life once their battle is over. He tells Doppio to go upstairs, but Diavolo appears again to order Doppio to keep facing downwards; he's being watched from above. Intrigued by this mysterious presence, Diavolo then orders Doppio to get the watcher into King Crimson's range, using the reflection in Bucciarati's eyes to observe what is happening above them.
Polnareff makes himself known and orders the duo not to move up the stairs, demanding to know who is accompanying Bucciarati as he has no data on him. Still fooled by Diavolo's soul, Bucciarati introduces Doppio as Trish, explaining how she became involved with the gang only days earlier. Polnareff asks why Doppio has a girl's name; Diavolo tells Doppio to deflect the question by feigning outrage. Polnareff apologizes, but asks if Trish is a Stand User, which Bucciarati confirms. Polnareff then asks "Trish" to show her Stand without approaching him; Diavolo realizes that he's dealing with an experienced fighter. When he sees the Arrow on Polnareff's lap, he finally recognizes Team Bucciarati's contact; likewise, Polnareff suddenly recognizes the aura surrounding Doppio.
In a flashback to 1986, a young man discovered six Stand Arrows while working part-time for an excavation team in Egypt. Sensing a strange energy within the artefacts, the man stole them and fled, eventually meeting Enya the Hag in a marketplace. The old woman expressed great interest in the Arrows, telling the man that they had a hidden power that she could teach him how to use; accordingly, he sold her all but one of the Arrows for a handsome sum.
In the 90s, Jotaro Kujo and Jean Pierre Polnareff learned of the Arrows and began to investigate the man said to have stolen them. While Jotaro travelled to America and Asia, Polnareff followed the trail through Europe and to Italy, where drug-related crime had drastically escalated since 1986. His investigation soon drew the attention of Diavolo, who resolved to destroy the interloper personally.
Polnareff soon realized that he had sorely underestimated the influence of Passione; they effectively cut him off from the outside world, leaving him alone against the Boss. Diavolo and King Crimson proved far stronger than he could've ever imagined, defeating Polnareff and Silver Chariot effortlessly. The ex-Stardust Crusader was thrown off a cliff by the ocean, having lost an eye, an arm, and both legs in the battle; Diavolo had thought him dead until now.
Bruno and Polnareff suddenly notice that "Trish" has disappeared; Polnareff shouts at Bucciarati, recognizing the telltale sight of objects being suddenly displaced. At the same time, Giorno, Mista and Trish also recognize that time has been skipped as they race up the steps of the Colosseum; Giorno grimly realizes that the Boss has somehow beaten them to their contact. Polnareff tries to flee, but he then sees Doppio ominously advancing up the stairs below him. Declaring that the events of this night will be a trial for him to stay at the top, Diavolo finally emerges from Doppio and confronts Polnareff.
Diavolo demands to know what Polnareff is doing in Rome and what he intends to use the Arrow for; Polnareff only bites his own finger until it bleeds, refusing to tell his enemy anything. An impatient Diavolo rushes up the stairs, erasing time in order to close in on Polnareff; however, Polnareff notices this by seeing the number of blood spots on his leg suddenly increase. He immediately summons Silver Chariot to slash in a full circle around him; unfortunately, Diavolo foresaw that his foe has had a trick up his sleeve and got away with only a gash on his arm.
Praising Polnareff's fighting spirit and capability, Diavolo erases time again as Polnareff tries to flee. He flicks blood from his cut into Polnareff's eye and prepares to deal the final blow, only to realize that Silver Chariot has been pierced with the Arrow. The Stand's face begins to melt as a strange light emits from its body. King Crimson attempts to kill it, but Chariot's lower body liquefies and it flees independently of Polnareff; the Frenchman laments that he hadn't intended to show that to Diavolo, but it was his final gamble to protect the Arrow.
Still perplexed by this turn of events, Diavolo has King Crimson finish Polnareff off and seize the discarded Arrow. Reminiscing about the great adventures he had with the Joestar Group, Jean Pierre Polnareff breathes his last. After confirming his foe's death, Diavolo plans to determine the Arrow's hidden powers after he deals with Team Bucciarati; from his vantage point, he sees them joining up with Bucciarati, warning him that the Boss is nearby. Suddenly, Diavolo senses another presence: a stranger clad in black has appeared before him, slowly walking away. As he demands to know who the newcomer is, an Arrow-shaped marking is shown on its neck.
