Wang Chan (ワンチェン, Wan Chen) est un antagoniste mineur figurant dans la première partie de la série JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Phantom Blood.

Il est originellement un marchand qui avait vendu du poison à Dio Brando vers le quartier de Ogre Street. Cependant, il est transformé en Zombie par Dio et devient son tout premier serviteur maléfique.

Apparence

Wang Chan est un Chinois âgé, de petite taille et plutôt malingre. Ses cheveux sont hérissés et se dressent fermement vers le haut, avec la ligne de cheveux en forme de V. Il a de très longs sourcils, un petit grain de beauté sous l'œil droit et une moustache à la "Fu Manchu". Lorsqu'il devient un zombie, il obtient des crocs et une très longue langue.

Personnalité

Déjà en tant qu'humain, Wang Chan était un criminel sans remord et cupide. Il a vendu son poison oriental à Dio simplement pour s'amuser sans se soucier de comment Dio allait l'utiliser.[1] Il semble être aussi sadique et sourit de satisfaction quand Dio poignarde George Joestar. Après l'incendie au Manoir Joestar il essaie de piller la propriété et de prende le Masque de Pierre pour le revendre.[2]

En devenant un zombie, cependant, Wang Chan se dévoue au service de Dio, qui est supérieur à lui en tout point puisqu'il est un vampire. Au début très calme, Wang Chan devient plus brutal et cruel à mesure que l'histoire avance et au final devient un être brutal et sanguinaire. Il va notamment attaquer imprudemment Jonathan, le sous-estimant malgré les avertissement de Dio que Jonathan était toujours dangereux. En effet, Wang Chan pensait qu'il avait été humilié et voulait se venger de Jonathan pour sa blessure.

Wang Chan est un diseur de bonne aventure, et avait exprimé une grande confiance dans ses prédictions. En effet, même en voyant Dio entouré par des policiers, Wang Chan était encore sûr qu'il s'échapperait.

Pouvoir et Compétences

En tant qu'humain, Wang Chan était un diseur de bonne aventure et un expert des poisons orientaux. Il a prédit avec succès que Dio aurait beaucoup de chance dans sa vie, ce qui s'est avéré vrai avec le temps, sachant qu'il a survécu à plusieurs situations dangereuses et est devenu très riche et, aimé et craint par de nombreuses personnes à travers le monde.

Après avoir été zombifié, il semble avoir conservé sa personnalité, même s'il montre un côté plus sanguinaire et sert Dio de manière désintéressée. En termes de capacité physique, il peut sauter de grandes distances comme un autre formé aux arts martiaux. Cependant, c'est un zombie relativement chétif et il prend généralement la fuite ou se cache si on se défend contre lui, à moins que Dio ne lui dise directement d'attaquer.
Les griffes de Wang Chan
Après que Dio ait perdu son corps, on voit que Wang Chan est également capable de se battre à une main, tandis que l'autre main tient la tête de Dio. Il tourne également la tête pour fixer la vision de Dio, permettant au vampire d'utiliser son Space Ripper Stingy Eyes.

Claws: In battle, Wang Chan chooses to wear gloves with giant-sized claws. This way, he is able to increase his power and attack range. He is confident enough to kill a human by a simple swipe of his rigid claws, but is unsuccessful against Jonathan's Zoom Punch.[3]

Histoire

Background

Wang Chan was a shop owner operating in Ogre Street, the most dangerous part of London. When a young Dio Brando came to buy a slow acting poison from him to kill his father Dario Brando, he was unconcerned by Dio's evilness and even told him of a man in his own land who had a similar birthmark to Dio's. Said man had a harsh life, but in the end lived to be over 183 years old.[1]

Phantom Blood

Years later in 1880, Dio reuses the same slow poison to murder of George Joestar. However, Jonathan discovers Dio's schemes and, with the help of Robert E. O. Speedwagon, manages to find Wang Chan's shop. Wang Chan is arrested by the police and taken to the Joestar Mansion. As he witnesses Jonathan approaching Dio to cuff him, Wang Chan claims that Dio is far too lucky to fully have to give up this early. Dio uses George's blood to become a vampire but Wang Chan manages to flee during the chaos. Afterward, Wang Chan goes back to the mansion to steal the Stone Mask but a heavily injured Dio sucks his blood and turns him into a Zombie.[4] From that point on, Wang Chan serves as Dio's subordinate.

Wang Chan then takes care of Dio while he is recovering from his injuries, showing great loyalty to him. He is seen pushing Dio around in a wheelchair during their encounter with Jack the Ripper.[5] He attacks Jonathan during his training, but is defeated and escapes, informing Dio about the Ripple.[3] When the group of heroes reach Dio's mansion, Wang Chan remains hidden, being the only zombie to survive the battle. He finds Dio's head and guards it, lamenting that Dio didn't have another body.[6]

Dio trusts him enough to be responsible for his head and implanting it onto Jonathan's body. He manages to stow away on the ship Jonathan and Erina board and after being spotted by Jonathan, he retrieves Dio's head from a coffin. However, Jonathan uses the last of his strength to crush Wang Chan's head and sends a ripple throughout his body. The impact from the attack sends Wang Chan's headless body flying into the ship's machinery and disrupts it due to the ripple controlling his carcass, causing the ship full of zombies to explode.[7]

Heritage for the Future (PS1/DC/Arcade Game)

Wang Chang appears as the "child" version of Shadow DIO when attacked by Alessi's Stand. After the move, Shadow DIO turns into Wang Chang holding the jar containing Dio's severed head. In this state, Wang Chan can attack by using his claws, or the head of Dio can attack using Space Ripper Stingy Eyes.

Wang Chan appears as the first enemy Jonathan faces after learning the Ripple. Much like in the original story, Wang Chan uses his giant claws to attack and poison his opponent. Wang Chan is also playable for some battles in Extra Battle Mode, and can be used in 77 Rings Knights Mode.

Wang Chan also appears in the final chapter of the game, carrying Dio's head in a large jar. Although Wang Chan retains some of his claw-based attacks, his moveset is primarily based around Dio's Space Ripper Stingy Eyes attack. This version of Wang Chan is playable in the last stage of Dio Mode, and can also be unlocked in 77 Rings Knights Mode.

Wang Chan
Wang Chan appears in Diamond Records as a playable character in both the Action Battle and Tactical Battle game modes. He has one 'Fighting Spirit' type 5 star statue. Wang Chan's moveset in both game modes is comprised of various attacks inspired by the anime, including zombie minion summoning as well as using the severed head of Dio in a jar. Even though Diamond Records is a game based on the anime, Wang Chan also attacks with his claws only seen in the manga. Despite being a zombie in canon, the game gives him the "vampire" tag and thus gives him the qualities of a vampire character (such as regeneration and weakness to the Ripple). Playing as him will force any outdoor stages into their night time variants.

Wang Chan's basic attack string is a combination of up to five various attacks comprising of different strikes with his claws. In Tactical Battle, this is cut down to only three hits.

In the cutscene, Wang Chan reveals a jar containing Dio in his disembodied form. Dio uses his Space Ripper Stingy Eyes from inside the jar, as Wang Chan rotates his body to allow the beam to cover more of the area. In Tactical Battle, it hits all opponents present on the stage.
