STAND PROUD

From JoJo's Bizarre Encyclopedia - JoJo Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

"STAND PROUD" is the first opening theme song of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders and the third overall opening theme of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: The Animation. Animated by studio Kamikaze Douga, the song is performed by Jin Hashimoto, with lyrics by Shoko Fujibayashi, composition by Takatuku Wakabayashi, and arrangement (and guitars) by ZENTA. The single was released for sale on April 23, 2014.

On the Oricon's Weekly Singles Charts, the song peaked at number 13 after being on the charts for 2 weeks.[2] On Billboard's Japan Hot 100, it debuted and peaked at 11.[3] On Billboard's other charts in Japan, it also performed well: number 3 on the Hot Animation[4] and Top Independent Albums and Singles charts,[5] and 2 on the Hot Singles Sales charts.[6]

Opening Animation

The opening starts with a star,[a] expanding from the center as Jonathan Joestar fades into view, turning around to pose[b] while part of the JoJo ~The Fate of That Blood~ opening is projected over him and behind, as if he were standing in front of a wall. He turns away to reveal Joseph Joestar, posing[c] as he wooshes past, with the BLOODY STREAM opening playing instead. As Joseph disappears from view, the camera swirls around Jotaro Kujo, who turns around to point at the camera,[d] summoning Star Platinum to punch the camera. The screen flashes violenty with ジョ (Jo) katakana before the Stardust Crusaders anime logo impactfully lands in the center, continuing to flash before zooming out of view.

The scene changes to rising out of water to focus on a full moon[e], then to five shooting stars[f] zooming across the planet to lead to a mysterious mansion. The scene zooms into this mansion, flying up the stairs[g] and past a bug[h] to DIO peering over his shoulder,[i] his birthmark and neck stitches from Jonathan's body emphasized. He swipes at the camera, transitioning to the next scene.

The camera zooms out from Star Platinum's eye, revealing Muhammad Avdol, Jotaro, and Joseph inspecting the polaroid that would reveal DIO's location, and then zooms in again, switching the scene to the 5 group members, now joined by Noriaki Kakyoin and Jean Pierre Polnareff, walking through various locations featured throughout Stardust Crusaders, including a shot where Hol Horse is partially visible. This is followed by a close-up of Jotaro's shoes as he walks, alone and surrounded by smoke; the group riding by camel through the scorching Arabian Desert as in Chapter 166; the group standing together, side-by-side, looking into the distance; Polnareff jumping in excitement as the group walk at dusk; and the group huddled around a campfire at night after having crash-landed - the plane visible off to the right - as in the Death Thirteen story arc. Showing more of the night sky, the scene changes to Joseph and Avdol are seen looking up, the camera switching to behind them to reveal the rest of the group watching the sunrise and parting of clouds.

The scene changes to a static shot of different Joestar family members entagled in Holy's Stand, red thorns, stemming from Holy Kujo's back. She leads the top of the shot, the star birthmark, once again, visible on her nape. The shot then pans down, revealing Lisa Lisa, Erina, the Stone Mask with glowing red eyes, George Joestar II, Jonathan holding Dio's head as at the end of Phantom Blood, and George Joestar I. At the bottom is Jotaro, the image falling into him as he stands up sharply from crouching, Star Platinum popping up from behind him.

Then, the shot changes to a red, sketchy-style DIO, twirling around his body and into the iris of his evilly smirking face, showing his shoulders, birthmark, stitched neck, and flashes of his skeleton to emphasize the separation between his head and Jonathan's body.

The Crusaders show off their Stand powers

The quintet then demonstrate their Stands, Joseph summoning Hermit Purple, Avdol summoning Magician's Red, Kakyoin summoning Hierophant Green, and Polnareff summoning Silver Chariot; while in the background, various locations and objects from the Part are panned across, including the plane Gray Fly attacked them on, Forever's Strength, the cable car Rubber Soul attacked on, and the Sun. Jotaro swoops in with his Stand, the background changing to a myriad of different katakana onomatopeia, such as オラオラ, ゴゴ, and ドド, as well as other effects and symbols. The group then continue to showcase their Stand abilities, Joseph swinging with Hermit Purple and Kakyoin using his Emerald Splash.

A brief view of Jonathan closing his eyes (presumably from his death scene at the burning boat), Joseph opening his eyes as he ties the headband that came from his fallen friend Caesar around his head, and Jotaro looking up, is then seen, while the song chants "JOJO!" three times, presumably counting the three.

The next scene has the tarots revolve around, with Star Platinum and Jotaro emerging, and a heavily obscured DIO. The scene changes with Jotaro posing, then clutching his Gakuran hat, and sharply tweaking it at the tip, with Star Platinum emerging from him. The final scene shows Star Platinum punching a glass pane, behind which is DIO. Jotaro stands stoically as Star Platinum repeatedly punching the glass pane until eventually smashing it, the perspective actively changing. Finally, the fist of Star Platinum emerges from the cracked and shattered glass.

Altered Versions

The Opening for SC Episode 24, being the final episode that STAND PROUD plays in, follows the trend set by the previous Openings of containing a few sound effects.[7]
