J. Geil (J・ガイル, Jei Gairu) est un antagoniste mineur figurant dans la troisième partie de JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Stardust Crusaders, plus spécialement dans l'arc "Emperor et Hanged Man".

J. Geil est un assassin et le fils d'Enya Geil, la conseillère de DIO. Il est envoyé aux côtés de Hol Horse pour tuer le Groupe Joestar. Il est le meurtrier de Sherry Polnareff et l'homme contre qui Jean Pierre Polnareff veut se venger. J. Geil est un manieur de Stand et possède Hanged Man.

Apparence

J. Geil est un homme musclé. Sa caractéristique la plus reconnaissable sont ses deux mains, qui tous des mains droites. Il est exceptionnellement hideux, ayant un crâne ovoïde chauve avec des arcane sourcillières prononcés et un visage maigre avec des yeux blanc laiteux, un petit nez, et une bouche presque sans dents.

Il porte une chemise et un pantalon de couleur unie, une veste en cuir et des manchettes. Lors de son introduction, il est également vu avec une casquette cachant ses traits, mais cette casquette disparaît par la suite.

Durant un flashback, on voit qu'il possédait de long cheveux bruns.

Personnalité

J. Geil est un manieur de Stand cruel et pervers au service de DIO.

On sait que J. Geil a violé et assassiné plusieurs femmes au cours de sa vie, y compris Sherry Polnareff, la sœur de Jean Pierre Polnareff. On peut aussi déduire qu'il est également assez sadique car il déclare qu'il a aimé écouter les cris de Sherry.

J. Geil possède un certain niveau de confiance et de ruse. Sûr de l'invincibilité de son Hanged Man, J. Geil n'a pas hésité à s'en prendre seul à Polnareff et Noriaki Kakyoin, tous deux des manieurs de Stand accompli. Il a également démontré une certaine capacité à élaborer des stratégies dans ses batailles. Par exemple, J. Geil a délibérément montré Hanged Man à Polnareff pour le provoquer et le pousser à partir à la poursuite seul tandis que J. Geil s'était associé à Hol Horse pour tuer Polnareff ensemble. J. Geil se cachait ainsi dans l'ombre pendant que Hol Horse cassait du verre pour permettre à Hanged Man de se déplacer. Ils ont également élaboré une attaque combinée: pendant que les balles de Emperor attireraient l'attention, Hanged Man viendrait par derrière pour poignarder leur cible dans le dos, l'immobilisant et permettant à Hol Horse d'atteindre la cible à la tête. Leur technique a cependant échouée, car la seule victime connue de cette attaque, Mohammed Abdul, y a survécu. Même après que les héros aient découvert la nature de son pouvoir et l'aient blessé, J. Geil avait assez d'esprit pour créer un leurre en poignardant un homme innocent de la même manière qu'il avait été blessé pour tendre une embuscade à Polnareff. Au combat, J. Geil préfère rester en dehors de la bataille et piloter à distance son Stand, en utilisant sa capacité de miroir pour attaquer sous des angles inattendus et prendre les adversaires par surprise. Cela dit, J. Geil jubilera inévitablement s'il sent qu'il a acculé sa cible. À un moment donné, il a délibérément fait apparaître Hanged Man devant Polnareff et l'a raillé à propos d'Abdul et de Sherry, puis s'est moqué de ses efforts vains pour se venger d'elle.

J. Geil partageait un lien psychique avec sa mère Enya. Lorsqu'il est mort, Enya a reçu les mêmes blessures qu'il avait.

J. Geil in France

J. Geil is the man responsible for the rape and murder of Sherry Polnareff, earning him her brother's desire for revenge. He also tried to kill Sherry's friend but failed. No one but Polnareff believed the girls' testimony on J. Geil having two right hands. It is later implied that he raped numerous girls before Sherry, as he says that he had many girls who "loved and admired" him, Sherry being just one of them.

Entering DIO's service like his mother Enya, he is one of the seven Stand Users sent in Asia to stop the Joestars. J. Geil is first explicitely mentioned by Rubber Soul, who reveals a part of his ability to Jotaro Kujo.

Hanged Man sent to taunt Polnareff

In Calcutta, J. Geil makes his Stand appear in front of Polnareff and forcing him to separate from the rest of the group, making him an easy target for him and his partner Hol Horse. After a short confrontation between Emperor and Silver Chariot, Muhammad Avdol joins the fight but is quickly disposed of by a combination of the antagonists' Stands.

Polnareff is blinded by anger and is almost killed in the same way, but Noriaki Kakyoin manages to save him in time. The two escape with a jeep, but Hanged Man follows them and destroys the vehicle. At this point, Polnareff deduces J. Geil's Stand's true nature: it is made of light and can move between reflections at high speed and attack from there. Having guessed its location and trajectory, Silver Chariot manages to stab it, revealing J. Geil's position.

However, Polnareff and Kakyoin are once again tricked: J. Geil gathers a crowd of people and makes its Stand enter their eyes. The trick is spoiled by Kakyoin, who focuses the people's attention on a coin while Polnareff then kicks dirt in everyone's eyes and then cuts the fleeing Hanged Man with Silver Chariot. Silver Chariot then finishes J. Geil with a flurry. Flung into the air from the final blow, J. Geil comes down hung upside down on a gate, becoming a visual metaphor for the Tarot card his Stand represented.

The events from "Emperor and the Hanged Man" take place in the game with no difference (being one of the few story arcs without drastic changes). J. Geil appears as the last enemy faced in this arc story.

Heritage for the Future (PS1/DC/Arcade)

J. Geil himself appears on the last cutscene within his Chapter in Super Story. His Stand, Hanged Man, is used as part of Hol Horse's moveset. As a special move, Hanged Man can appear from the ground and grab the opponent, rendering them unable to move. As part of one of Hol Horse's Super Combos, he'll crawl out of the ground and stab the opponent in the back and deal massive damage, but only if the opponent is caught in one of the three cracks that Hol Horse shoots into the camera screen.

Détails

  • In the First Edition of the Italian version of the manga, J. Geil actually had two left hands. This happened because, in the 90s, manga chapters were mirror-printed in Italy, a standard procedure made to appeal the public accustomed to Western comics. From Vento Aureo onwards, mirror-printing ceased, therefore in the new Italian version of Part 3, J. Geil has two right hands.
  • In the 2014 Crunchyroll translation, J. Geil is known as Centerfold.
