Josuke Higashikata (東方 仗助, Higashikata Jōsuke) was confirmed for All-Star Battle R during the game's initial announcement trailer.[1] He was 1 of 15 playable characters during the EVO 2022 Demo on August 5.[3]
His moveset is fundamentally the same as his from All-Star Battle, with a few tweaks being made to both balance the character and fit him into the overall gameplay tweaks that All-Star Battle R brought.
In the English localization of the game, Josuke's Stand, Crazy Diamond, is localized as "Shining Diamond", carried on from its All-Star Battle debut.
Replacing Josuke's previous voice actor, Wataru Hatano, is Yuki Ono, who has voiced him since the Diamond is Unbreakable anime adaptation. Because of this, and like the majority of the game's roster, voicelines for Josuke were either added or re-recorded.
Josuke has 1000 health and uses the Stand (スタンド, Sutando) Battle Style, fighting foes with Crazy Diamond. During a fight, he can use various moves from his appearance in Diamond is Unbreakable.
Switches between User Mode and Stand Mode. Switching modes changes the skills Josuke is able to use.

+ ON GROUND
The arm of Josuke's Stand appears on its own and uses its long reach to unleash several straight punches. It becomes a Guardbreak if performed in "Watch Your Mouth!" Mode
Attack type: High Damage: 42
Watch Your Mouth!
+ (Consumes HH Gauge) ON GROUND
A counter attack in which Josuke stops to fix his hairstyle. Only usable if you have at least 1 bar of HH Gauge, and consumes 1 bar if the counter is successful. If an opponent's non-HHA/GHA hits while this is in effect, Josuke will enter Watch Your Mouth! Mode. While in this mode, Josuke will continue to advance toward the opponent and be unable to move or crouch outside of forward jumps and charges. However, the opponent's attacks will not knock Josuke back and normal attacks can be combined into Chain Beats regardless of sequence.
I'm not done kicking your ass!
+ (While "Watch your mouth!" is active) ON GROUND WHEN DOWNED
A skill exclusive to Josuke's "Watch your mouth!" enraged state that can only be used while the opponent is down. He grabs the opponent and forces them back onto their feet while leaving them staggered, allowing him to continue his combo even after the opponent has hit the ground.
Attack type: High
Rumble Mode (ゴゴゴモード, Gogogo Mōdo)
Activates when under 30% health
This mode is automatically activated once Josuke falls bellow 30% health. It increases his attack power, as well as the rate at which the Heart Heat Gauge rises, while also decreasing the rate at which the Guard Gauge drops.

+ // ON GROUND
Follows a short charge forward with a barrage of hits from Crazy Diamond. A high attack during charge and barrage. This skill can initiate Rush Mode.
Light (): The finishing blow is a high attack, Crazy Diamond punches the opponent directly and knocks them down.
Medium (): The finishing blow is a middle attack, Crazy Diamond punches downwards knocking down the opponent.
Heavy (): The finishing blow is a low attack, Crazy Diamond sweeps the opponent with its arm and launches them in the air. This variant cannot combo off a grounded hit but can if used on an opponent that is being juggled. This means that if the opponent is holding after getting hit by the initial barrage when not in a combo, they can block the finishing blow.
Attack type: High (last hit is variable) Damage: 104 / 114 / 84 + 34 (118)
DORA!
+ // ON GROUND WHEN DOWNED
Crazy Diamond destroys the ground with a barrage of punches. If it hits a standing opponent, they will be knocked to the ground. The number of hits increases in order, but the greater the increase, the more vulnerable Josuke becomes. The ground will remain destroyed for the rest of the round unless it is restored by As you were!. Using "DORA!" again before the ground is restored will destroy another spot of ground, and the ground destroyed previously will be returned to normal. Can be used to inflict an additional attack on a downed opponent.
Attack type: Low Damage: 60 / 87 / 118
As you were!
+ // ON GROUND
A movement technique that rapidly moves Josuke to the spot where the ground has been destroyed by "DORA!". If Josuke hits the opponent while moving, they will take damage and be sent flying away. Just like in All-Star Battle, when triggering Josuke's "Watch your mouth!" ability, characters have unique lines that all pertain to insulting, mocking, or unwittingly offending Josuke and his hair. They will use the same "taunting eyes" pop-up also used by Joseph's "Your next line is...". Josuke will then reply with "What the hell did you say about my hair!" (今おれのこの頭のことなんつった!, Ima ore no kono atama no kotona ntsutta!) while entering his enraged state.

In commemoration of the release of Keicho Nijimura as the 3rd paid DLC character for ASBR, the Japanese ASBR Twitter account is hosting a giveaway of 20 sets of 3 ASBR Diamond is Unbreakable badges,[5] although only to be delivered to addresses in Japan.[6] The badges in question contain the ASBR render images of Okuyasu Nijimura, Keicho, and Josuke Higashikata respectively.
The campaign started on March 24, 2022, and will last until April 9 at 11:59pm JST. To enter the giveaway lottery, users only have to:
Retweet the tweet that announced the giveaway in the first place.
However, Twitter accounts set to private are ineligible for the giveaway. Unfollowing the ASBR Twitter account before the end of the giveaway also deems users ineligible. Furthermore, attempting to join the giveaway with multiple accounts will disqualify all of the associated accounts from the giveaway.[6]
The giveaway is directly implemented by Bandai Namco themselves, with no third party involvement, and the winners of the giveaway will be notified via Twitter DMs. Said winners will then announced sometime towards the end of April 2023. The gifts are only eligible for people in Japan, and are scheduled to be delivered in mid-May 2023.[6]
