Diavolo (ディアボロ, Diaboro) was confirmed to return for All-Star Battle R during the game's initial announcement trailer.[1] He was also 1 of 15 playable characters during the Evo 2022 Demo on August 5.[3]
His moveset is fundamentally the same as his from All-Star Battle, with a few tweaks being made to both balance the character and fit him into the overall gameplay tweaks that All-Star Battle R brought.
In the English version of All-Star Battle R, Diavolo's Stand, King Crimson, is localized as "Emperor Crimson", carried on from its first official usage in All-Star Battle.
Replacing Toshiyuki Morikawa, Katsuyuki Konishi reprises his role as Diavolo's voice actor from the Golden Wind anime adaptation. Aditionally, Soma Saito replaces Akira Ishida as his alter ego, Vinegar Doppio. As with the majority of the game's roster, voicelines for Diavolo were either added or re-recorded.
Diavolo has 900 health and uses the Stand (スタンド, Sutando) Battle Style, fighting foes with King Crimson. During a fight, he can use several different attacks that were featured in Vento Aureo.
This move executes slower than it did in All-Star Battle, making it so, if the opponent is standing, this normal will now whiff against all but the Pillar Men and the tallest human characters. When it does connect on an opponent, if they're standing, they will now be launched away from Diavolo rather than suffering normal hitstun while aerial opponents hit will now be launched farther away.
Style/Specials/Etc. [Stand Off] (スタイル/特殊技/その他)
Erasing Time
Automatically triggered when a skill marked with a ☆ activates
Diavolo can no longer move during erased time. Instead, Diavolo will be able to act before the opponent when the effect ends. The opponent's animation will now be slowed down significantly rather than fully executing at normal speed; projectile speed remains the same though. The time erased time is active is also slightly shorter than it was in All-Star Battle.
When against Giorno Giovanna with Gold Experience Requiem active, instead of moves that use "Erasing Time" still activating the sound and counter activation effects, the skills will simply not work, with "Such futility!"'s input not working at all.
I've eliminated 0.5 seconds!
or ON GROUND
The forward dash version can now be canceled into jumps, giving Diavolo more options after he forward dashes.
Normals [Stand On] (通常技)
Standing Medium Attack
ON GROUND
Diavolo and King Crimson now move forward a short distance when using this normal.
Standing Heavy Attack
ON GROUND
Diavolo and King Crimson move farther forward than they did in All-Star Battle. The move also executes much faster. Additionally, when hitting an aerial opponent, they will be launched much farther away now.
Crouching Heavy Attack
+ ON GROUND
This attack now hits twice, causing it to deal more damage than it did in All-Star Battle. Also because of this, the opponent is launched into the air later in the animation, making it possible to now combo off of this normal with other normals instead of being limited to Diavolo's command normal and skills.
Style/Specials/Etc. [Stand On] (スタイル/特殊技/その他)
Your life is mine!
+ ON GROUND
This command normal now causes a groundbounce instead of normal hitstun.
