Chapter 438
Town Guardian Spirits, originally I Want to Judge You! in the WSJ release, is the four hundred thirty-eighth chapter of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga. It is also the one hundred seventy-third chapter of Diamond Is Unbreakable.
Summary
After the effects of Bites the Dust, Yoshikage Kira celebrates his apparent victory over Josuke and the others. However, he becomes confused once he witnesses two birds fly from behind him. Yoshikage then begins to question his whereabouts, believing that he was on his way to work. He checks the time on his wristwatch only to discover that it is still crushed from earlier. Yoshikage becomes increasingly worried over the confusion of his situation before being confronted by Reimi Sugimoto, whom he does not recognize. Reimi informs Yoshikage of the battle that happened earlier and that he was eventually cornered into a dead end while Yoshikage questions her identity; believing her to be a new Stand user. It is at this point that Reimi reveals that Yoshikage is, in fact, already deceased and recounts the events that led to his death.
Earlier, Jotaro Kujo, Rohan Kishibe and Josuke all race to reach a wounded Yoshikage, who is preparing to activate Bites the Dust so that he can escape the battle unscathed. Koichi Hirose, using his Stand, increases the weight of Yoshikage/Killer Queen's hand so it cannot activate Bites the Dust. In conjunction with this, Jotaro stops time using Star Platinum and proceeds to pummel Killer Queen's hand into a pulp: utterly destroying it and thus preventing Yoshikage from resetting time. As Josuke and the others rejoice, Yoshikage mumbles incoherently to himself; believing he can still be go back in time. As he lies crippled in the middle of the street, an ambulance that was called to help save Yoshikage backs over his head and upper torso: crushing and killing him.
Josuke and the others recoil in shock as paramedics pronounce Yoshikage Kira dead at the scene. The woman who Yoshikage confessed his identity to informs the paramedics about what happened prior to his death as Rohan and Hayato express that Yoshikage got what he deserved. Meanwhile in Ghost Alley, Yoshikage finally remembers the events of his death as Reimi reminds him of his first murder by showing her scarred back; prompting him to finally remember her name. Yoshikage realizes that they are both in Ghost Alley and recalls the advice his father gave him: to never look back, otherwise you will be dragged into a hellish other realm for eternity. Yoshikage, regaining his original form, takes hold of Reimi as he attempts to exact a final revenge on her by forcing her to look behind herself, which would cause her to be dragged away. Yoshikage then laughs, believing that with her gone, he can finally achieve the peaceful existence he sought in life as a ghost. However, Reimi rebukes Yoshikage on his foolish actions. Arnold then rips off Yoshikage's hand with his jaws, prompting him to fall down from the impact and thus, look behind himself. As he stares in horror at what awaits him, a multitude of disembodied hands swarm Yoshikage as Reimi calmly watches.
