Rudol von Stroheim (ルドル・フォン・シュトロハイム, Rudoru fon Shutorohaimu) was officially announced as the second playable DLC character for All-Star Battle R on January 19, 2023,[1] and was released for all to play on February 3. Like the rest of the paid DLC, he is included inside the game's season pass, and therefore the Digital Deluxe Edition as well; and holders of either gained early access to the character on February 1, 2023.[4][2]

Unlike Eyes of Heaven, Stroheim's design is the same in both Western and Japanese versions of the game, with any otherwise direct mention of Nazis being altered or removed. This includes his Style being Best Science in the World, rather than Nazi Science or even German Science.

Having voiced Stroheim since the Battle Tendency anime adaptation, Atsushi Imaruoka reprises his role in this game as well. Like with the majority of the roster that have returning voice actors from Eyes of Heaven, voicelines for Stroheim were added and re-recorded.

Gameplay

Stroheim has 1000 health and uses the unique Best Science in the World (世界一の科学力, Sekaīchi no Kagakuryoku) Battle Style, being the only playable character to do so. As he appears in his cyborg form for All-Star Battle R, Stroheim uses various moves of his from Battle Tendency.

This ability can only be attempted while Stroheim has a minimum of two stocks of Heart Heat, and consumes one stock upon activation. Stroheim pulls the pin on a Stielhandgranate and hugs it while lying down. After a long delay, the grenade explodes, blasting Stroheim backwards and instantly reducing his health to 1. However, if the opponent is caught they will also be blown away while taking a colossal amount of damage, capable of KO'ing almost any character from half health. The explosion may even connect with them while they are downed.

From the moment he initiates the attack, Stroheim becomes immune to Throws. Once he reaches his lying position, he naturally low-profiles most attacks in the game and additionally gains passive Super Armor. As a result, he can no longer be interrupted by attacks aside from command Throws, HHA, and GHA. After a successful detonation, Stroheim's Heart Heat Gauge will be permanently disabled for the rest of the match.

UV Laser Gauge

A gauge above Stroheim's Heart Heat Gauge displays how much energy he has left for UV Laser Mode. It fills gradually while in Heavy Machine Gun Mode and is instantly replenished to full upon connecting with his HHA. While in UV Laser Mode, it gradually drains overtime and automatically switches Stroheim back to Heavy Machine Gun Mode when depleted.
Rumble Mode
Activates under 30% health
This mode is automatically activated once Stroheim falls bellow 30% health. It increases his attack power, as well as the rate at which the Heart Heat Gauge rises, while also decreasing the rate at which the Guard Gauge drops.

Stroheim fires off his prosthetic hand at an upwards angle in an undeflectable projectile 'punch', functioning as an anti-air/reversal attack. The distance the prosthetic hand travels increases in order of ASBL.pngASBM.pngASBH.png, inversely affecting his recovery speed. (ASBL.png version Flash Cancel comboable)

When using the ASBM.png or ASBH.png versions, Stroheim delivers an initial melee strike and becomes invulnerable until the attack is executed, with ASBH.png providing longer invulnerability. However, the skill may no longer be Flash-Canceled or chained into Stroheim's HHA.

  • If the melee strike connects with the opponent while using the ASBH.png version, the skill will instead transition into "I'll pluck you one square centimeter at a time!", dealing extra damage while ending the combo.

Grenade Launcher

Stroheim pulls the pin on a Stielhandgranate and tosses it into the air in a slow arc. It then detonates and creates a small explosion upon contact with either the opponent or the ground. The range the grenade is thrown increases in order of ASBL.pngASBM.pngASBH.png, inversely affecting his recovery speed. However, Stroheim may also be caught in the grenade's explosion if he is too close, causing him to flinch while taking a small amount of damage. (Comboable)

Smirking, Stroheim launches his prosthetic hand off in a rocket punch a moderate distance forward. If it connects, he seizes the opening to load ammunition into himself and deliver a heavier volley of 20 bullets from his Heavy Machine Gun, carrying the opponent into the air.

This HHA has the bonus effect of replenishing the UV Laser Gauge to full.

Jovial over the chance to kill the opponent with his powers, Stroheim wields UV Laser Mode and launches high-powered beams in front of himself. If it connects, the opponent is blinded and seared by the intense lasers. Suddenly switching to Heavy Machine Gun Mode, Stroheim unleashes an heavily extended volley of bullets into them. To finish the assault, he pulls the pin on a Stielhandgranate and fires off his prosthetic hand holding it in a rocket punch, striking the opponent's body and propelling them backwards. The grenade then detonates to trigger a massive explosion while Stroheim looks away, before the prosthetic hand returns to him and locks back in.

If used while in UV Laser Mode, this GHA executes faster. Notably, the Mode that Stroheim is left in after the GHA is determined by whether or not the attack connects; If it connects, Stroheim continues in Heavy Machine Gun Mode, while if it fails, Stroheim continues in UV Laser Mode.

Stroheim switches between Heavy Machine Gun Mode & UV Laser Mode, altering his available abilities.

While in UV Laser Mode, Stroheim does not have access to any skills. However, all of his normal attacks are replaced with UV Laser beam attacks which carry higher damage and range than most other normals in the game. Said attacks inflict additional silver damage unto the opponent; while silver damage can be regenerated over time, it will disappear if the opponent is damaged again.

Stroheim fires UV lasers in a fan formation from the emitters on his shoulders at a downward angle, dealing rapid damage that is partially silver. The crouching version of this attack can strike a downed opponent, briefly launching them in the process. (Comboable)

As this functions as a normal attack, any standing or crouching version of "UV laser, activate!" can be chained into this attack.

UV Laser Gauge

A gauge above Stroheim's Heart Heat Gauge displays how much energy he has left for UV Laser Mode. Special Interactions

Dialogue

Outside of the All-Star Battle Mode, Rudol von Stroheim has unique interaction dialogue for both his match entrances and victories when facing certain characters.

Due to the availability of certain voice actors, some of these interactions re-use existing dialogue for Stroheim's opponents. In this case, only Joseph Joestar and Risotto Nero have new dialogue - Joseph because the voice actor returned for his character's "Your next line is..." interaction; Risotto due to both characters being DLC released close to each other.
