Egypt (エジプト, Ejiputo) is a location featured primarily in the third part of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Stardust Crusaders, and recurs in flashbacks in the fourth, fifth, and sixth parts, Diamond is Unbreakable, Vento Aureo, and Stone Ocean. It is where DIO was hiding until the Joestar Group became aware of his revival and sought out to destroy him.[2]

Summary

Egypt is a large country in the northeast corner of Africa and part of Asia that is connected to the Middle East by the Sinai Peninsula. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Red Sea to the east, Sudan to the south, and Libya to the west. It has an approximate area of 1,010,000 km² as well as a population of just over 100 million people. The country is a popular tourist desitnation, comprising of many famous landmarks such as the Nile, Pyrmids of Giza, the Great Sphinx, the Valley of the Kings, and many locations important to Christianity and Islam.[1]

History

Background

Muhammad Avdol was born into the country in the 1960s as a natural-born Stand user. Eventually, Avdol would meet Joseph Joestar, who would tell him stories of the vampire Dio Brando.

Iggy the Stray Dog

The information below derives from Iggy the Stray Dog which was not written by Araki. As such, it may not be considered canon.

In 1967, the Six-Day War took place in the country. Avdol's father was sent to fight in the war, where he was killed, and Avdol's mother was killed by a Palestinian militia which had launched a mass shooting in Cairo, leaving him an orphan.

In 1983 Dio, now known as DIO, would have his casket rediscovered off of the coast of northern Africa, resetting him free into the world.

"Solid Naso" sells the Arrows to Enya

Sometime in the year 1986 a secretive young man under the alias Solid Naso found some buried supernatural arrows during an archaeological excavation of the country that he sold to an old woman named Enya Geil, but kept one for himself.[3] Enya would go on to give the arrows to her master DIO which she would use to awaken his Stand The World and the other Joestar Stands.

DIO would set up Egypt as his main base of operations in the heart of the country, Cairo. He obtained a mansion where he would meet with and give orders to his followers, including having several consultations with Enrico Pucci.

Two years later in July 1988, DIO went to search for Avdol, who fled upon recognizing him from Joseph's stories. Then in August of the same year, he encounters Noriaki Kakyoin who is on vacation in the country, and brainwashes him into going after Jotaro Kujo.

Stardust Crusaders

After Joseph takes a spirit photograph of DIO, Star Platinum's superhuman eyesight detected a fly native to Egypt which Avdol recognizes. Upon determining that DIO is located in Egypt, Joesph, Avdol, Jotaro, and Kakyoin all board a plane to the country to face him.[2] Their plane is attacked by the Stand Tower of Gray and ultimately crashes, forcing them to resume their journey to the country on land.[4]

N'Doul stalks the group after arriving in Egypt

Eventually, the group arrives in the country after their encounter with High Priestess only to be informed of nine more Stand Users loyal to DIO.[5] They rendezvous with two Speedwagon Foundation representatives in a helicopter who give them a new ally in the form of a dog, Iggy. Later, the two Foundation representatives are attacked by N'Doul's Geb and crash their helicopter, and the Crusaders find their crash. They are perplexed by Geb's attack, but Jotaro uses Iggy to discover N'Doul's location. He tries to interrogate him into telling him about DIO, but N'Doul kills himself knowing that Joseph's Hermit Purple can read minds.[6]

Later a young boy named Boingo is approached by a Japanese mangaka tourist. The tourist offers to give Boingo various things in exchange for the comic book he's reading but gets scared off when the boy's older brother Oingo approaches. These two brothers go on to attempt to sabotage Jotaro, Joseph, and Polnareff but are inadvertently incapacitated.[7]

Along the Nile

The group resumes their search for DIO along the Nile River, where Polnareff gets separated from the rest. He encounters a young man named Chaka who is currently possed by the sword Stand Anubis. Polnareff wins a duel against him and takes the sword for himself and reunites with the rest. When Polareff and Jotaro go to a barber a man named Khan gets possessed by the sword two and fights them. Then Polnareff gets possessed too, and Jotaro must carefully defeat him. Anubis is defeated by being thrown into the Nile.[8]

Joseph and Avdol struggle to go after Mariah

After a little more travel, Joseph is electrocuted by a strange outlet and begins attracting metallic objects. After an almost fatal incident on the escalator in the hotel, they're staying at he finds Mariah, the Stand user who is causing him to be magnetic. He informs Avdol of this, only to find he too is also magnetized. The two must go after Mariah but get stuck together because of their magnetization. She has all her bones broken when Joseph and Avdol surround her and cause their magnetic bodies to crush her.[9]

Polnareff is turned back into a child by Alessi

Meanwhile Polnareff is turned back into a kid by Alessi and his Stand Sethan. He tries to find Jotaro, but because he also lost his memories as an adult he doesn't recognize him. A woman named Malèna helps take care of the child Polnareff, but Alessi finds them and reduces her back into a fetus. After outsmarting Alessi even as a child, he is retired by Jotaro who manages to beat him even after being turned into a kid too.[10]

Getting desperate to find DIO, the Crusaders ask around at a bar in front of the pyramids if anyone has seen the building in one of Joseph's spirit photographs. One man claims to know where the building is, but will only tell them if they win a bet against him. Polnareff takes the bet but loses, the man's Stand takes Polnareff's soul for losing and he reveals his name as D'Arby. Now knowing that he's a Stand user, the rest of the Crusaders take him one until Jotaro tries to get him to tell him the secret of DIO's Stand. D'Arby is incapacitated under the pressure knowing that if he betrays DIO he will be killed.[11]

As the Joestar Group makes its way to Cairo, a previous foe, Hol Horse reports to Dio Brando about the defeats of Mariah and Alessi. Though Hol Horse attempts to kill DIO, he cowers in fear of his power and swears his loyalty once again.[12] This time, Hol Horse takes with him a new companion Boingo and believes his Stand's ability to foretell the future will give him the upper-hand. Through a number of coincidences and accidents fortold by Tohth's predictions, Hol Horse nearly succeeds but due to a misunderstanding of the pages, Emperor's bullets ricochet back at him. The Joestar Group treks onward.[13]

As Hol Horse goes to reunite with them and tries to find allies to help him find Pet Sounds at the request of an elderly lady, he is attacked by Mariah. After their fight Boing uses Thoth to find out that the parrot he is looking for is in a Japanese town called Morioh. Hol Horse and Boingo both leave to go to Morioh.[14]
