Ever since I was little girl, I wanted to work magic just like the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. And so I went to England and trained as an esthetician. I want to bring people happiness just as the Fairy Godmother did.

Beauty Salon Cinderella (シンデレラ, Shinderera) is a minor location featured in the fourth part of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series, Diamond is Unbreakable. A beauty salon located in the business district of Morioh, its owner, the world renowned esthetician Aya Tsuji, uses her Stand Cinderella to help her clients find love and good fortune.

Description

Found in the business district of Morioh, Beauty Salon Cinderella is a small business composing of only two rooms - a waiting area, and a treatment room. The facade of the business features a large arched sign with the name "CINDERELLA" on it, along with ornate metal detailing on the sides supporting it. A small sign that reads "A makeover to bring you true love", along with the business's name, can be found in front of the building. It, along with the salon's menu and Aya's computer, all bear an emblem resembling Cinderella's carriage. At the end of a recessed entryway is the front door.

The waiting room simply houses a couch for waiting clients, a side table, a receptionist's desk, and a file cabinet. The treatment room features a plethora of tools and furniture pieces relating to Aya's practice. These include a vanity, a computer, a display cabinet, and an operating table with lighting, among other things. Several award certificates recognizing Aya's work can be found on the wall, though she states they're not on display to brag, but rather for clients to trust her skill.[1] The only other door in the building, an emergency exit in the top left corner of the room, leads to another business street.[2]

The salon is stated to be a two minute walk from Morioh Station.[3]

Service

In her own words, Aya Tsuji states that her beauty salon works differently from most others, focusing on creating "visages of good fortune" rather than performing standard makeovers and body treatments.[4] This is based on physiognomy, or the belief that ones characteristics, personality, and fortune can be determined based on the shape and features of their face. To achieve this, Aya uses the feature-swapping abilities of her Stand Cinderella to swap out parts of a client's face and/or body, though this is only known to a few Stand users in Morioh. Additionally, Aya states that increasing a person's fortune takes a great amount of energy, and requires her to adjust even minute details such as the lines on a clients palms. If a client does not "bind" this energy regularly using an item such as the Cinderella lipstick, the energy will "escape".[5] This can lead to the client's original features crumbling away and disappearing forever.[6] Aya compares this to what she states is the moral of Cinderella, which is that "miracles require dedication".[7] However, if she chooses, Aya can use Cinderella to restore these features.[3]

Upon entering Aya's office, a client will have to fill their name and address on a form, after which they will be given a menu with Aya's services. While there are more on the menu, the following are the only visible services:

Aya momentarily struggles to simulate Yukako's makeover.

In addition to those listed above, Aya offers a full-body makeover that lasts 24 hours to Yukako for 72,000 yen. The services also vary in duration, lasting as short as 30 minutes[8], to as long as 24 hours.[9] In order to help clients get an idea of how their makeover will look, Aya has a computer in her office which can simulate the final results, though her lack of mastery over the program can lead to humorous results in-between.[10] If the client agrees, they will either have their face changed while sat in front of Aya's vanity[8], or have their body's changed on the operating table.[11] Before the process starts, Aya will always ask her client to close their eyes, presumably so they will not see Cinderella.[12][13]

While it's unknown if this offer is extended to all clients, Aya offers Yukako a refund after completing her first makeover if it did not garner the desired results.[8] For unknown reasons, the salon is closed on Tuesdays.[3] It is unknown what became of the salon after Aya's death.

History

Yukako Yamagishi Dreams of Cinderella

Aya invites Yukako into her salon.

Upon Joseph Joestar's suggestion Yukako Yamagishi heads to Beauty Salon Cinderella. As she approaches the entrance, a client barges through the front door, elatedly thanking Dr. Aya for giving her a makeover that led to her boyfriend to propose to her. Aya follows behind, and states that its better to be ugly and joyful than dour and beautiful, before inviting Yukako inside. Aya formally introduces herself and then takes a moment to appreciate Yukako's beauty, expressing surprise that someone with her beauty was living in Morioh. As Aya explains how her salon differs from more conventional salons based on its focus on physiognomy, Yukako admits her skepticism, until Aya states that due to Yukako's face, any boy she is interested in will be driven away the more intensely she likes them. Taken aback, Yukako continues listening to Aya's explanation, and eventually decides to undergo a makeover that will last for half an hour.

Yukako accidentally stumbles upon Koichi, and though their reunion goes well for the most part, Koichi suddenly gets an upset stomach the same time her makeover wears off. Yukako angrily storms back to the salon, demanding Aya give her a treatment that will last longer. Aya explains that in the tale of Cinderella, the titular princess found love by maintaining her unwavering pure heart despite the abuse directed towards her, and states that the moral of the story is that "miracles require dedication". She further explains that in order to increase Yukako's fortune for a longer period, she will also have to adjust the lines in her palms, as well as other minute details on her body. Additionally, she will have to apply a Cinderella lipstick every 30 minutes while awake without fail in order to maintain her appearance. Yukako agrees to pay 720,000 yen for a 24-hour makeover, and lies on the operating table. This time, however, she opens her eyes and discovers Cinderella. Unphased, she allows Aya to continue the makeover.

Yukako is given a full-body makeover using Cinderella.

While the makeover was successful, with Yukako even managing to share a passionate kiss with Koichi, things once again go wrong. Several days after the makeover, Yukako is stopped by Koichi in the street, but manages to convince him that she's not Yukako by revealing her now deformed face. Deeply upset, she rushes to the salon once more and attacks Aya with her Love Deluxe, threatening to kill her if she doesn't fix her face. Aya explains that due to Yukako failing to maintain her use of the Cinderella lipstick, the energy altering her fate escaped, and thus her face and handprints are now crumbling away. As Aya declares that Yukako's original parts have disappeared from this world, Koichi enters the salon looking for Yukako.

Yukako, still pretending to not be herself in front of Koichi, asks Aya to send him away, but he says he recognizes her because of her fiery temperament. Furious about Koichi discovering the truth, she attempts to attack Aya one last time, but the esthetician gives Yukako one more chance, in consideration of Koichi's dedication. Using Cinderella, she summons a collection of faces, stating that only one is Yukako's original face, and if she chooses the correctly, her original features will be restored. However, if she doesnt choose correctly, the features will clash with her face, and she'll be stuck with that face's fate forever. In truth, none of the faces belong to Yukako, and only if she can discern that will Aya restore her face to it's original state.

Unable to deduce which face is hers, Yukako begins to panic. She chooses to let Koichi choose for her, stating that whatever he chooses, she will be satisfied with his decision, and expresses her confidence in his ability to choose. Koichi chooses a pair, but also requests of Aya that if he chose the wrong face, to injure Echoes' eyes and blind him, as he knows Yukako would not want him to see her with a different face. Moved by the couple's love for each other, she decides to restore Yukako's face anyway, reasoning that if she let someone innocent get hurt, she could not call herself a fairy godmother.

Sheer Heart Attack

Aya dies at the hand of Yoshikage Kira.

While chasing after Kira's hand, Josuke, Okuyasu, Koichi, and Jotaro discover the hand has floated into Beauty Salon Cinderella. Upon entry, they discover Yoshikage Kira's clothes on the floor, along with a heavily wounded Aya, and what appears to be the body of Yoshikage Kira. However, upon further inspection, they notice the corpse couldn't be Kira as it had both of it's hands, in addition to missing its face and and fingerprints. Aya weakly explains that Kira brought the man into her salon and killed him, before forcing her to swap his face, hair, and fingerprints with him. As Aya tries to reveal who his new face belonged to, she is blown up by Killer Queen's bomb. The hand exits through the salon's emergency exit, and before they can find Kira once again, he has escaped into a busy street.
