Polpo (ポルポ, Porupo) est un antagoniste secondaire de la cinquième partie de JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Vento Aureo, apparaissant dans l'arc "Le Gangster en Cage".
Polpo est un capo du gang Passione. Actuellement en prison, il est responsable du test d'entrée dans le gang et toutes les affaires de Stands. Lorsque Giorno Giovanna souhaite intégrer le gang, Polpo est celui qui le teste. Polpo lui-même est un manieur de Stand et son Black Sabbath attaque depuis les ombres.
Polpo est un homme d'une taille massive, étant non seulement obèse, mais aussi tellement grand qu'il tient à peine dans une cellule normale. Il une tête qui est très volumineuse par rapport à son corps aussi, lui donnant une silhouette vaguement ronde. Polpo a aussi des yeux noirs avec des pupilles claires, et un nez pointu.
Polpo porte une sorte de bonnet couverte de protrusions en forme de champignons allongé, un bracelet au poignet droit, et une sorte de tunique en deux couches, avec deux boutons de part et d'autre de la poitrine de la dentelle sur la bordure inférieure. Dans l'adaptation animée de Vento Aureo, la dentelle ressemble au sigle personnel de Polpo.
Polpo apparaît dans ce one-shot. Cependant, il est désormais plus petit, faisant une tête de moins que les autres personnages, mais étant toujours obèse.
Polpo porte ici une veste bleue, une chemise blanche, et un pantalon brun. Il conserve son chapeau qui est vert.
Polpo dit publiquement que la chose la plus importante lorsqu'on choisit quelque est la confiance qu'on peut lui accorder, une vertu qui semble être très importante dans le monde des gangsters.[2] En réalité, Polpo considère ses subordonnés comme de simples pions, et lorsque Giorno passe son test, Polpo pense à comment il pourra l'exploiter. De même, Polpo prêche le respect envers les autres et dit même que si on tue quelqu'un parce qu'il a manqué de respect alors Dieu pourrait pardonner ce crime.[3]
Polpo est très observateur. Lorsqu'il rencontre Giorno, il pointe immédiatement la marque sur sa main et demande s'il s'est blessé.[1]
Le Black Sabbath de Polpo est un Stand automatique à longue portée qui s'active dès qu'on rallume son briquet. Ce Stand est physiquement très puissant, peut attraper l'âme des gens et se fondre dans les ténèbres, mais la lumière l'affaiblit considérablement.
Illusionism: Polpo semble avoir du talent pour l'illusionisme. Bien qu'il soit obèse et gigantesque, il réussit à se cacher dans sa cellule. On le voit aussi faire comme s'il mangeait ses doigts ou faire apparaître soudainement un briquet dans sa main.
On ne sait pas grand chose du passé de Polpo. Il fait partie de Passione, ayant gravi les échelons pour devenir un capo auquel l'organisation fait grandement confiance. On lui confia alors la responsabilité de s'occuper des affaires reliées aux Stands.
Polpo managed to amass a treasure, converting his valuables into jewels and tasking Bucciarati with hiding the treasure. He was then imprisoned for an undisclosed crime but his influence was such that he turned his cell into a relatively luxurious room. He then kept overseeing his territory from the safety of his cell and also became responsible for recruiting people into the gang and turning them into Stand Users, using the Arrow that was given to him. It is known that he was Bucciarati's superior and that Narancia passed Polpo's test. Likewise, Guido Mista was freed from prison at Bucciarati's request and made to pass the test, which he succeeded in.
Polpo is first seen serving fifteen years in prison when Giorno Giovanna approaches and tells him that he wants to join Passione. Laying on the ground, Polpo is a first mistaken for a bed but then stands up. At first, Polpo notes the red marks in Giorno Giovanna's right hand and guesses, correctly, that he was holding his bag exclusively with his right hand because his left arm is injured. Polpo opens a fridge and offers Giorno a glass. When Giorno refuses as the guards have forbidden him from receiving anything from the capo, Polpo scoffs at this since, he declares, what people say and what people can are often at odds, a human behavior he considers as beautiful as it can be ugly. He then shows his secret compartment containing a TV set, books and even guns to show his point. After eating his cracker and expressing regret at not being able to see paintings exhibited outside of his cell, Polpo carries on to the interview.
For some reason, it appears that Polpo is munching on his fingers. After Giorno is distracted by a cuckoo, Polpo shows him a lighter. Polpo asks the teen what is the most important quality to consider in a list of candidate. Giorno tentatively answers that it could be what the candidates are capable of and shows that he's stolen the wallets of the guards as token of his ability. Amused, Polpo nonetheless says that the most important quality is trust. To test his trustworthiness, Polpo gives him the lighter and tasks him with keeping it lit for 24 hours, even if no one is here to watch.
The next day, Giorno returns with the lit lighter. At first unable to remember the teen's name, Polpo is reminded of it by Giorno himself and imparts his last lesson. If trustworthiness is so important, then that means that breaking that trust is an abominable act that would warrant death. That said, Polpo welcomes Giorno into the ranks of Passione and assigns him to Team Bucciarati. He offers a toast again, but Giorno leaves without a word. Annoyed, Polpo wonders if Giorno has become a Stand User but is sure he will be put to use. Polpo unwittingly shoots himself in the mouth with a gun which Giorno had disguised as a banana. This was an act of vengeance for having his Stand, Black Sabbath, carelessly cause the death of an innocent old man. This also destroys the Arrow in his Stand's mouth. As Polpo dies, Giorno, far removed from the scene, tells him to "savor [his] last meal". Polpo dies and his Arrow is destroyed. His death is ruled out as a suicide since no one was present at the time of his death.
