SO Chapter 1
Stone Ocean (1), originally Prisoner #21! in the WSJ release, is the five hundred ninety-fifth chapter of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga. It is also the first chapter of Stone Ocean.
Summary
It is 5:35 p.m. Standing in a rainstorm, a young woman is seen beside a red car staring at the corpse of a man. She is shown to have a tattoo on her left arm.
A holding room is now shown. Various female prisoners are seen in different cells. One particular prisoner, a woman with braided hair, gets annoyed at banging noises that another prisoner was making while banging her head on her bed. This prisoner was revealed to be the woman with the tattoo. The woman, who turns out to be Jolyne, is banging her head out of embarrassment for masturbating in front of a guard. As she is taunted by another prisoner, she manages to intimidate said prisoner by stating that she's able to tell the prisoner's crime by examining the joint of her left ring finger. Just before she and the woman with braided hair are transferred to another prison, Jolyne asks if the woman would believe her if she was framed for her crime.
Jolyne is informed by her lawyer that she has been arranged to be sent to Green Dolphin Street Prison to receive her punishment for her crime. The lawyer also brought essentials for Jolyne's use. She finds a shiny amulet among them that was from her father. She cuts her finger with a chipped stone stored inside the amulet and starts bleeding. Jolyne states to her lawyer that her father had never been there for her and that it would be useless to contact him. On a photo inside the amulet, a man wearing a cap and white clothing along with a woman is shown. She throws the amulet away and it drops into a drain. Her full name is revealed by her lawyer to be Jolyne Cujoh.
It is now 2:23 p.m. on the 6th of November in the year 2011. Jolyne is seen talking to the woman with braided hair, who reveals her name to be Ermes Costello, on a vehicle heading to Green Dolphin Street Prison. She informs Jolyne that money is necessary in the prison. Jolyne manages to guess where Ermes is hiding her money, which is in her breast. After Jolyne gets off the vehicle, she hears a conversation, despite no one speaking nearby. As she is listening to the conversation, she discovers a string coming out of her injured finger. The string leads back to the truck she was on and the conversation she was hearing was revealed to be Ermes being threatened by the guards. Using the string, she manages to stop the guard from striking Ermes, promptly cutting the guard's ear off and obtaining some money.
