Template:Location infobox Green Dolphin Street Prison (グリーン・ドルフィン・ストリート刑務所, Gurīn Dorufin Sutorīto Keimusho), also known as G.D. st. Jail (G.D.st.刑務所, G.D.st. Keimusho), and The Aquarium ((すい)(ぞく)(かん), Suizokukan),[1] is the main setting of the first part of Stone Ocean. It is a unisex prison with dorms separated by gender.

Summary

Located in the United States in Port St. Lucie, Florida, Green Dolphin Street Prison is a maximum security prison facility, unique in the fact that it is built offshore on an island, preventing its detainees from ever escaping to the mainland. Because of this, it is also known as "The Aquarium." While such a concept for a detainment facility has been used before the introduction of Green Dolphin Street, the prison boasts a large property area, and due to the rather rough and humid Florida environment and ecosystem, as well as the well-equipped and funded facility, the detainees will not find escape possible.

The prison represents an ideal containment center focusing on the importance of freedom and equality. Prisoners are allowed to walk around the campus and commit to their own activities within the allowed areas. Privileges, such as the use of the phone, taking a shower, reading a book, and watching TV are permitted, and even further privileges, such as work and an integrated university for studying are present. Money earned through said work can be used to purchase bonus vanity items and decorations at a gift shop. However, the prison does have various restrictions, such as the prohibition of metallic objects. Prisoners must also shave their heads and follow curfew, though this can be bypassed by bribing the barber and, sometimes, the guards.

Despite its stated commitment to rehabilitation, Green Dolphin Street engages in wildly inhumane practices, having solitary confinement conditions so restrictive they border on torture, and requiring prisoners working outdoors to wear proximity activated explosive devices to prevent escape. The staff is also consistently corrupt and abusive, shaking inmates down for money and hazing newcomers. The prison's internal economy is run almost entirely on bribes - money is what maintains social status, grants reasonable access to priviliges and allows easy traversal of prison grounds.

Little is known about the prison's history. One notable inmate has been incarcerated in Green Dolphin Street for at least 40 years. In 1984 the prison caught fire, resulting in major renovations. One of the rooms destroyed in the fire still lingers as a ghost due to an ability belonging to a child of a dead inmate. By 2011, the chaplain Enrico Pucci is the longest residing staff member of the prison. His 8 years of employ are marked by a supernatural conspiracy of his own design, due to which various instances of Stand activity have sprung up on prison grounds. Although Pucci's presence is the cause behind most of this activity, both the staff and the prisoner population happen to include several natural Stand Users.

Mysteries

According to one of the inmates, the prison has several "mysteries".

  • Even though there should be one meal per person, the number of meals does not match the number of prisoners.[2]
  • Lunch boxes will be conveniently sold out when it's someone's turn to get one.[2]
  • Using the phones requires a reservation or prisoners will have to buy the spot. It usually takes a month or more of waiting to use the phones.[3]
  • The prison has a shop that sells branded items like Rolex watches and Louis Vuitton bags.[4]

Prison Cells (囚人監房, shūjin kanbō) are small rooms where inmates are held in Green Dolphin Street Prison. In each cell contains a writing desk, bunk bed and toilet. Some cells contain books and posters owned by inmates. Every prisoner is assigned a roommate to share their new prison life with. To avoid complications, prisoners are only paired with roommates that have been determined to be compatible with them.[5] Jolyne's cell is cell 206, second floor.[6]

Since all inmates want to use them, the phones are reservation only and the wait is usually a month long before an inmate can use the booths. That is one of the "seven wonders" of the prison. Of course, paying another inmate to free their phone time is possible.[3] The phone calls are recorded and all metadata like the destination of the call or length are also recorded. This allows Pucci to spy on Jolyne's call with the Speedwagon Foundation.[7]

The area where the inmates are served food and where they eat. One is situated right in the middle of the women's quarters near the cells. Simply put, a set quantity of food is served while the inmates get in line with trays and portions are served. Breakfast begins at 7AM. There is usually enough food for everyone but inmates can take double portions and anyone arriving late is left starving. Inmates that work on outside facilities are given their lunch there at breakfast.[2] The food is quite varied and high quality, including boxes of milk, fresh fruits like bananas or even salmon.[8] Alternatively, set lunches are served in boxes and all inmates must present a meal ticket to get one.[9]

The Ultra Security House Unit[20][24] (厳正懲罰隔離房(ウルトラセキュリティハウスユニット), Urutora Sekyuriti Hausu Yunitto, lit. Strict Punishment Isolation Ward) or simply Punishment Ward (厳正懲罰, Chōbatsu Bōtō) is a separate section of the prison designed to isolate prisoners who are unable to coexist with the rest. This includes those who are in need of protection, child murderers, and prisoners who are prone to violence or frequently try to escape. The facility is located on the southern section of the Men's exercise ground, situated 520 meters away from the Women's ward.[24]

The location is remarkably more austere than the ordinary living quarters. The inmates are confined in their cells 24/7 and they are washed with a waterhose. The walls of the cells are padded and there is only a window on the door. The toilets are squat toilets. The meal consists in a simple bread infested with insects and a cup of soup full of roaches.[20] A staircase leads to an execution room where inmates condemned to the death sentence are killed with an electric chair.[25]

Staff

Green Dolphin Street Prison has a full staff of prison guards, and other support workers from doctors to a prison priest. Most of them disdain the prisoners because of the crimes they've committed and are abusive to a high degree. Due to the dangerousness of the prison's occupants, the guards are extremely trigger-happy as well and don't hesitate to shoot prisoners caught in unauthorized areas. They are also somewhat professional when it comes to alerts, quickly donning full riot control gear and coming in numbers to quell any uprising, which has led to a general state of quietness among prisoners.

On the other hand, the staff is also very corrupt and regularly allows prisoners to break the rules of the facility in exchange for monetary bribes.

Notable Inmates

Most of the inmates have been rightfully sentenced to prison for various heinous crimes, which are reflected in their general demeanor. Almost all inmates are hardened criminals who will use violence to fulfill their goals. Moreover, many of them are also unstable, being psychotic or having other mental afflictions. Because of a lack of oversight, most inmates are left to their own devices, leading to a state in which it is easy for bullies to prey on the weakest among them.

Inmates unable to coexist with others or requiring extra protection are kept in a separate Ultra Security House Unit, making it a place for the prison's both saddest and most dangerous outcasts.

Due to Enrico Pucci's DISCs and the Arrow, a good number of inmates have become Stand Users.

Video Games

Different areas of Green Dolphin Street Prison appear as battle stages in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle and Eyes of Heaven.

In ASB, the stage takes place outside in the courtyard whereas in EoH, the stage is inside the prison.

All Star Battle

GDst.ASB.jpg
  • Stage Hazard: Weather Report uses his Stand to make poisonous frogs rain from the sky. Players hit by the frogs will be poisoned and gradually lose health over a short period of time. This occurs an unlimited number of times.
  • Situation Finish: Whitesnake steals a DISC from the loser. If Pucci himself is one of the fighters, this Situation Finish will not occur.

Eyes of Heaven

GDST Prison EoH.png
  • Stage Gimmick 1: Gwess's Goo Goo Dolls can shrink opponents, making them take more damage, but must be paid using money found around the map first. Shrunken characters can enter the grates in the map, allowing escape from pursuers.
  • Stage Gimmick 2: Emporio's ability lets players teleport around the map.
  • Stage Gimmick 3: Sports Maxx's Limp Bizkit sets an invisible zombie alligator out into the prison, attacking whoever gets in its way. Has its own health bar.

Trivia

  • Jolyne Cujoh refers to the prison as a "stone ocean", a play on words referring to its nickname The Aquarium, giving rise to both Part 6's title and how she derives her Stand's name.
  • Although Green Dolphin Street is technically a prison, its branding and inmate uniforms feature the name "G.D. st. JAIL".

Note

  1. Emporio Alnino was born inside the prison, but is not an inmate himself.
