Summary

As the group approaches their destination, Buccellati reads another time The Boss' orders. Thinking back at all the members of La Squadra di Esecuzione they've killed, Buccellati concludes that only one remains. The group's goal, the San Giorgio Maggiore island, is in sight, upono reaching it, the group as a whole will obey the following instructions:

  1. One person will accompany Trish and enter an elevator leading to the top of the only basilisk of the island.
  2. That person won't carry any bladed weapon or gun, nor any communication device such as mobile phone.
  3. When the disk is extracted from the statue in which it was hidden, a transmitter will let The Boss know it and the group will have 15 minutes to bring Trish to the island.
  4. Every other remaining squad member will stay on the boat and not set foot on the island.

Giorno volunteers to accompany Trish to the basilisk, however, Abbacchio intervenes, saying that the lieutnant's duty is to finish the mission, which Buccellati agrees to. Remembering his collaboration with Giorno, Bruno asks Giorno for his "lucky charm", a brooch which Giorno has given life to and which Bruno will try to plant on the Boss to track him afterwards.

In the elevator, Trish expresses her worries at meeting her estranged father which Bruno tries to reassure. Bruno sees that they've arrived at the top, and realizes that Trish had disappeared, only her severed hand, which Bruno held, remains. To his horror, Bruno understands that the Boss had Trish brought here so he could kill her himself.
