I've got one last request. Would you mind... if I took off my jacket?
—Ago, My Prized Needle and Thread Chapter 3

Ago (アーゴ, Āgo) is a primary antagonist featured in "My Prized Needle and Thread", a short story based on Vento Aureo.

He and his brother Filo are somewhat infamous in southern Italy as "The Brother Gangsters". He later becomes the manager of a brothel who Passione's Boss orders to assassinate for working behind their back.

Appearance

Ago's appearance is mostly unknown. However, he wears a white flannel bespoke suit with wrinkled sleeves and an irregular, hand-stitched finish. It was made in Naples as a matching set with his brother's suit.[1]

Personality

Ago is known for his hot-blooded, combat-ready nature. Unlike his brother Filo, Ago is rebellious and acts more impulsively. He hates having his activities controlled by Passione, feeling as if he is living a caged existence. He constantly seeks to expand his influence, secretly engaging in activities behind Passione's back. Despite ignoring his brother's warnings, Ago cares a lot for the bond he shares with Filo, cherishing the white suit he has that was tailored with Filo's as a matching set. Upon being confronted by Prosciutto and Pesci, he shows an introspective side, regretting that he always caused his brother trouble due to his personality.[1]

History

Background

Ago was a gangster in southern Italy, belonging to an organization where his brother, Filo, was the godfather. Ago received a white suit jacket from Filo, which was tailored in Naples as a matching set for the brothers.

At some point, their organization was taken over by Passione and they were forced to become the Boss's subordinates as an affiliate organization. Not wanting to accept the alliance since their gang was treated like servants, Ago decided to disobey Passione, ignoring his brother's warnings not to. He secretly expanded into prostitution, gambling, loan sharking, and even developed his own drug routes. This act of betrayal incurred the Boss's wrath and he ordered Ago's elimination.

Prosciutto and Pesci were assigned to assassinate Ago at the brothel he managed. When they arrived at his room, Prosciutto's The Grateful Dead caused Ago's subordinates to rapidly age. Ago was still capable of resisting due to the glass of grappa chilled by ice on his desk, which dulled the Stand's aging effects. Accepting his fate, Ago acknowledged his reckless nature and made a final request to remove his white flannel jacket, since it symbolized his bond with his brother and he didn't want to stain their memories together with his blood. Prosciutto accepted his request, so Ago placed the jacket on a hanger and surrendered.

Seeing Ago's resolve and relating the bond he had with Filo to Prosciutto's own bond with Pesci, Prosciutto suddenly ordered Pesci to carry out the execution. Pesci hesitated, having never killed anyone before. Ago mocked Pesci's fear and inexperience. Out of shock, Pesci dropped an ice cube, causing one of Ago's subordinates to temporarily recover and shoot Pesci's shoulder. Ago took the opportunity to seize another gun but was ultimately executed by Prosciutto. Enraged from Ago's taunts, Pesci repeatedly kicked Ago's corpse and used Beach Boy to tear up his prized jacket, despite Prosciutto telling him to stop.[1] Disappointed in Pesci, Prosciutto then took the jacket with him to a tailor shop in Florence to repair it.[2]

My Prized Needle and Thread

Ten days after Ago's death, Filo goes to punish Prosciutto at the tailor's shop since the jacket and Pesci are both missing, and Filo wanted the jacket for Ago's funeral. Before Filo shoots Prosciutto, he is interrupted by a phone call from his wife, who tells him that Pesci delivered the jacket to her in perfect condition, just in time for Ago's funeral.[3]
