JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険 オールスターバトル R, JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken Ōru Sutā Batoru R) is a fighting game based on the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise, developed by CyberConnect2 and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It will be playable on the PlayStation 4, the PlayStation 5, the Nintendo Switch, on Steam, on the Xbox One and the Xbox Series X & S. All Star Battle R is a remastered version of the 2013 fighting game JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle with 9 new playable characters and updated voice acting as well as new game mechanics added to the core gameplay.

A first trailer of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle R was released for the Playstation State of Play on March 9, 2022, with an announced release date of early fall of the same year.

The colorization and voice acting of the characters in All Star Battle R is noticeably different from that of All-Star Battle as the characters and Stand colors have been modified to closely follow the color schemes in the various anime adaptations of the series. In addition, the Japanese voice actors working on the anime reprise their roles in All Star Battle R.

Gameplay

The HUD shows two characters being available for each side

The gameplay of All Star Battle R is based on the 1v1 2.5D fighting game style of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle. Mechanics such as the Easy Beat, Stylish Dodge, Heat Heart Attack and Rush Mode (ラッシュモード, Rasshu Mōdo) have been confirmed to return in this game.

An additional important mechanics has been added to All Star Battle R with players seemingly being able to select 2 characters to play during a match. The extent to which that second character will be playable in-game hasn't been confirmed yet, although the nature of the HUD implies that the second character will not be fully playable but instead be an assist character with a limited number of available attacks.

Game Modes

So far, All Star Battle R has the following game modes being available.

  • All Star Battle Mode (オールスターバトルモード, Ōru Sutā Batoru Mōdo): The player has over 100 specifics fights to complete, the fights being representative of the battles from the original series although some "Extra Battles" with unique situations are also playable. These matches reward the player with cosmetic features, such as new SFX, taunts, poses, outfit color schemes, and when a boss is defeated, special alternate outfits and costumes.
  • Arcade Mode (アーケードモード, Ākēdo Mōdo): In the "Challenge Battle" sub-mode, the player chooses a character and difficulty setting and participates in a gauntlet of eight battles against randomized COM opponents to win Gold and set/beat high scores based on accumulative grading within the selected difficulty. However, the player can choose to play an endless series of battles until they are defeated.
  • Versus Mode (バーサスモード, Bāsasu Mōdo): The player can fight against the COM or another human being, either through local multiplayer, or online battles for rank.
  • Practice Mode (プラクティスモード, Purakutisu Mōdo): The player can practice character attacks, skills, and combos using different battle settings. Though the training dummy is usually an idling character that can be made to execute specific actions or switched into an active COM state, a second player can be used to practice. Some of the possible settings for the training dummy are the COM's difficulty level, the damage being displayed, attack attribute being displayed, automatic guard, automatic down attack avoidance, setting the HH gauge, toggling counter hit or displaying the keys being pressed.
  • Customize Mode (カスタマイズモード, Kasutamaizu Mōdo): The player can customize their Campaign Mode avatar and their Player Card for online matches. They can also customize characters' various taunt and victory poses, lines, and SFX earned in Campaign Mode.
  • Gallery Mode (ギャラリーモード, Gyararī Mōdo): The player can purchase and view voice lines, soundtracks, concept, and publicity artwork, and unlocked poses and costumes, using Gold earned through battles in any mode other than Campaign Mode.
  • Option Mode (オプションモード, Opushon Mōdo): The player can customize the game's settings and COM difficulty.
