JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Last Survivor (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険 ラストサバイバー, JoJo no Kimyō na Bōken Rasuto Sabaibā) is a multiplayer battle royale game based on the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise for arcades developed by historia and published by Bandai Namco Amusement. It was first announced on December 18, 2018,[1] and was initially set to release in summer 2019, though it actually launched on December 18, 2019, just a year after its announcement. A location test for a beta version was done in January 2019.

Gameplay

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Last Survivor is a third person battle royale action game. The game supports up to 20 players in a single match and features characters from Parts 3 to 5 of the series.

The arcade machines are equipped with two stick handles, one for each hand. The left handle has one stick to control the direction of the movement and two shoulder buttons, L1 and L2. The right handle has one stick to control the camera; four face buttons, A B X Y; and two shoulder buttons, R1 and R2. The controls are the following:

  • A: Jump
  • B: Crouch
  • X: Investigate
  • Y: Map
  • L1: Ultimate Skill
  • L2: Stand ON
  • L3 (push left stick): Dash
  • R1: Skill
  • R2: Attack
  • R3 (push right stick): Open Pose wheel

The cabinet display features touch screen capability, used for menu navigation and in-game chat with pre-written messages.

The players each control one character and roam a vast map, whose effective size reduces gradually as a dangerous zone progressively engulfs the environment. They are deployed randomly on the map in predetermined square zones. They then must fight each other, depleting the enemy's health bar until it is empty and the enemy is eliminated. Players will need to utilize their Stand powers to be the last person standing.[2] Depending on the mode, players can also be split into distinct sides instead with allies fighting together and able to be revived.

The player can perform basic attacks, charged attacks, or use their Stand's special abilities. For instance, Star Platinum can stop time, immobilizing enemies for a short time frame. Characters with long-distance ranged Stands can send their Stands away from them, controlling them at the same time to attack other characters while they hide. Any action, from walking to attacking others, creates noise that is also visually indicated through Katakana onomatopoeia appearing on the screen, allowing other players to hear/see what is happening nearby. It is possible to sneak around by walking while crouching. To balance out having Stands in a multiplayer game, Last Survivor gives each ability a certain number of charges that it can consume. An example of this is that Jotaro’s primary attack allows him to punch up to 8 times consecutively with Star Platinum before needing to wait for charges to regenerate. DIO and Jotaro can collect tokens that add seconds to the length of their Time Stops.

Unique to Last Survivor is the ability to level up your character during the game. Players level up by collecting poker chips from fallen enemies, similar in style to those produced by Daniel J. D'Arby's Stand Osiris. By leveling up, players will gain access to more of their Stand's abilities, notably their Ultimate Skill. An example of this is that Jotaro must be level 4 in order to use Star Platinum The World's Time Stop. Moreover, depending on the character, a stats of the player character will be increased when a certain level is reached.

Exploration is also encouraged via the presence of items scattered throughout the map. Three types of card are present and dispersed inside buildings and can be picked up for an advantage. Red cards are HP recovery cards and heal some of one's life points when picked up. Blue cards are shields, giving the player a shield that absorbs damage to the HP bar. Green cards are trick cards, allowing the player to see through walls for a few seconds.

It is possible to customize your player character by changing the character's outfit, character's color scheme, or their Stand's color scheme.

Characters

Last Survivor currently has 16 playable characters. It had five characters during its beta test period (Jotaro Kujo, Noriaki Kakyoin, Koichi Hirose, Guido Mista, and Bruno Bucciarati). Five more characters were then added at launch (Jean Pierre Polnareff, DIO, Josuke Higashikata, Rohan Kishibe, and Giorno Giovanna).

More characters are gradually being added.

Stages

Last Survivor has currently two stages.

The first is downtown Morioh, the default stage of the game. It has six areas, the rural districts, the Trussardi area (landmark: Trattoria Trussardi), the Angelo Rock area (landmarks: Angelo's Rock, Sun Mart, Josuke's house, and Okuyasu's house), Owson Area (landmarks: Owson, Koichi's house, and Rohan's house), the Kameyu area (landmarks: Kameyu, Cafe Deux Magots, and Cinderella Beauty Salon), and the train station (landmarks: train station, Budogaoka Bank, and Cafe Rentagei).

The second is downtown Cairo, including DIO's Mansion. The map was announced on November 24, 2020[3] and became available on December 16 the same year.[4] Unlike Morioh, the Cairo Map is significantly smaller and only has one possible area to play in, but it is richer in landmarks. Its landmarks are the transmission tower, the water tank, the clock tower, DIO's Mansion, the old town, and the Senator's car.

The stages themselves are quite vast, and each round selects a part of the map that will be used as the effective battlefield, ensuring some variety. The stages have specific areas that will be used as the battlefield, such as the "Kameyu Market" area in Morioh. Each area also has its landmarks.

Draw Mechanics

Draw options in game
In JoJo Last Survivor "draws" works as a gacha mechanic and it’s the principal way to obtain items in game. You can draw a "Lucky Draw" by spending the "Tickets" obtained after a match or spend 200PP to draw a "Premium Draw" once. Choose one card from the three displayed cards to get one cosmetic item. Premium Draws have a higher chance of producing rare items compared to Lucky Draws. The cosmetic item you get can be worn directly on the spot, or you can put it on freely at the official website. If you draw a cosmetic item that you already own, it will be converted into "coins" according to its rarity.

Coins can be exchanged for cosmetic items at the "Exchange Station" on the official website. You can check the probability of each item being pulled for each rarity, as well as the probability of each cosmetic item being pulled when the probability is increased.

Cosmetic Items
