Synopsis

History

Diavolo was born in an all-female prison sometime in 1967, but his birth is a mystery as his mother claimed she had been pregnant for two years and every guard was female. Due to serving a long jail time, he was sent to her home down of Sardinia to live with the priest that worked there. According to neighbors and friends, he was a frank yet dim-witted and timid boy that desired to become a sailor rather than a priest like his guardian wanted.  When he was around 18, he met Donatella Una, who had been vacationing in Sardinia with her family - they got along well enough to where Donatella fell madly in love with Diavolo and slept with him, eventually becoming pregnant herself with Trish Una.  This is the first known use of Diavolo having a false name, that of "Solido Nazo", and most of what he told her was a bold-faced lie which was eventually passed down to Trish. He made a promise to return to Donatella in the future and left, but never came back for her.

When he was 19 and begun consorting with a girlfriend, the priest believed it was time for Diavolo to have a car and begun to construct a garage.  This caused him to find a young woman, very likely his mother, buried alive with her mouth and eyes sewn shut.  Coincidentially, that night a fire broke out and consumed the village, killing the priest and five other people. Diavolo had been listed as dead and went a dangerous path, going to Egypt on an excavation. Upon finding six arrows, he quickly stole them and left, selling five to Enya for a huge sum of money and keeping the last one for himself (which later became Polpo's arrow and used by Black Sabbath to test new members).  And at some date after, he created Passione.

7 years prior to Vento Aureo, Risotto Nero joined Passione and Diavolo enstated him as the leader of La Squadra di Esecuzion, giving him operatives the served under him including a pair of assassins named Sorbet and Gelato.  Five years later, when asked to be granted territory and a raise, Diavolo rejected and it started the first known investigation into his identity.  When Sorbet and Gelato found out who he was, he tortured and killed the first and the later choked himself on his gag: Gelato was then left at his house with the gag intact and a note that said "punishment" and Sorbet's body was soon delivered to the rest of the gang.  This caused La Squadra to revolt and in retaliation, Diavolo named them traitors.

After the events of Stardust Crusaders, Polnareff and Jotaro set out to find the six arrows. Upon noticing the crime and death rates surrounding Diavolo's organisation were twenty times higher than average, Polnareff began investigating Passione and its leader, an event that takes place 15 years before Vento Aureo.  Upon meeting Polnareff face-to-face, they engaged in battle which ended with Polnareff being pushed off a cliff and into the sea, the fall breaking his legs and causing him to lose his right eye.

2001 (Vento Aureo)

For his entire time as boss of Passione, not a single member had seen his face and lived to tell about it.  Eventually he formed a plan to work alongside Massimo Volpe to make a drug created between them the only product in the drug market - this, to Passione, was disguised as a clean-up mission to sweep Italy and free it from drug rings.  Some people, however, were still capable of getting drugs, which attratced the attention of Giorno Giovanna and the ire of Bruno Buccellati. Roughly around the same time, he recieved word that he had a daughter and, more importantly, that she was trying to find out the identity of her dad.  Deciding to kill her so all major evidence of his identity would become unknown, Diavolo gave orders to Polpo to protect and bring her to him.  But, as Polpo was assassinated before he could carry out the order, it was inherited by his successor and secret traitor, Buccellati.

With La Squadra also recieving this news, a race was on to protect or capture Trish with both Buccellati's group and Risotto's men believing Diavolo would want to see his daughter and take her under his wings. As a result, he posed as a worried father, giving strict directions to Buccellati's gang through ways that couldn't be tracked, but in reality was hoping for the two to finish off one another.  However (and yet going exactly according to Diavolo's plan), Formaggio radioed in the fact that Buccellati was protecting the boss's daughter and Prosciutto later passed on the information about Coco Jumbo, a turtle he leaves Buccellati's gang to use.  As a result, the two were constantly going head-to-head, eventually leading to Buccellati's team killing every member of the renegade party.

After Giorno and Guido Mista finish off the second-to-last member of La Squadra, Ghiaccio, Buccellati goes with Trish to the tower they were ordered to meet the Boss at.  Taking the elevator up to the top level, Bruno is caught off-guard by a sudden attack as Diavolo uses King Crimson to slip into the elevator and take his daughter. Travelling to the bottom of the building to a hidden, pillar-filled room, Diavolo is quickly tracked by his operative through the use of a charm-turned-tracker Giorno created.  He proves far stronger, however, and he soon guts Buccellati and nearly succeeds in his plan.  Unfortunently, Giorno had taken noticed of the skipped time by interacting with the others and had taken them all to the tower, quickly finding their severely wounded allies.  Due to King Crimson's issues with dealing with crowds, Diavolo allows them the chance to escape and brands the group traitors, promising a reward for anyone who kills them and his daughter.

Despite it, though, Diavolo orders his alter-ego Doppio to look into a particular matter: the house Donatella lived in in Sardinia still stands, and if Moody Blues was used at that spot, Leone Abbacchio would reveal Diavolo's face.  Along the way, Doppio is questioned by a fortune teller who reveals that they're searching for their daughter - something Diavolo quickly takes care of - and nearly mugged by a taxi-driver.  To make matters worse, Risotto arrives at the location of the house as well, planning on intercepting Giorno's gang to make one last grab at Trish.  At first, Risotto simply assumes Doppio is a tourist, but upon seeing him react to the sounds of Aerosmith, the traitor realizes that Doppio is a Stand user and attacks.

The fight with Risotto is long and he nearly succeeds in killing Doppio many times, if not for Diavolo's interventions. He gives Doppio the use of Epitaph and throughout the fight encourages Doppio or orders him to flee.  However the fight is largely in Risotto's favor, from the power of Metallica to Doppio's lack of experience in battle playing for the traitor.  When Aerosmith intervenes, however, Diavolo takes control and gains the upper hand, using his abilities and Aerosmith's bullets to finish off Risotto. He then devours several frogs and attacks a child for their blood to replace his lost iron, then uses the soccer uniform the child had on combined with Doppio's young looks to get close to and killing Abbacchio.

At some point, between fleeing the scene and Buccellati's group getting the message from Polnareff, Diavolo gives Doppio back control and tells him to investigate the house.  However, he knows they are moving towards Rome and he orders Doppio to get moving and ask Cioccolata and Secco for assistance.  On the ride to Rome, Diavolo tells Doppio about the two and warns him to keep his distance.

At the Coliseum, Polnareff was taken by surprise at Diavolo revealing himself and attempted to get the arrow away from him. He was took mortal damage from King Crimson, but used the arrow on his own stand and create Silver Chariot Requiem as a last resort, which caused everyone to pass out for at least six hours and switch bodies.

Upon reawakening, Buccellati's gang follow Silver Chariot Requiem in an attempt to retrieve the arrow before Diavolo, unaware that he was hiding with Trish in Mista's body. After watching the group for a while Diavolo realised how to defeat the Requiem and take the arrow for himself. Just as he was close enough to the arrow to take it Giorno noticed that Mista's gun had been broken by force, causing the group to stop and allow Giorno to check them to see who had Diavolo's soul sharing their body. Diavolo panicked and chopped off Giorno's arm, causing Trish to bring out Spice Girl who he grabbed and used to control Mista's body.

Thanks to having worked out Silver Chariot Requiem's ability, he is able to easily defeat it once he escapes the group in Mista's body, but upon gaining the arrow he immediately drops it thanks to Giorno's dried blood being on his hand and Giorno's ability to turn that blood into termites. He also proves to have underestimated Trish as she softens Mista's bullets with Spice Girl and sends the arrow over to Mista.

He is eventually defeated by Giorno after Giorno's Gold Experience evolves into Gold Experience Requiem and is trapped in an infinite death loop by its effects. He is shown to have died in many different ways, including being stabbed, hit by a car, and autopsied alive. In his last appearance he is shown screaming at a child to leave him alone, clearly terrified of what might happen to him.

Synopsis (Doppio)

2001 (Vento Aureo)

Doppio is first seen in Sardinia, carrying a briefcase. In his introduction the audience is made to believe he is saving a child from being hit by a car, though it is later shown he barely took notice of the child and was actually saving a bug. After possibly subconsciously using King Crimson to avoid being hit by the car, Doppio caught the attention of a fortune teller. While at first sceptical, Doppio became interested in the man's fortune telling until the fortune teller tried to force him into letting him see his hands. After becoming panicked, Diavolo took Doppio's place and killed the man, leaving Doppio to chase his bug again afterwards (terrifying the small boy who was watching).

After getting into a taxi and being conned by the driver, Doppio is met by Risotto Nero. In his rush to get away, Doppio smacks his face against a rock and bleeds profusely, getting blood all over his shoes. When Risotto asks what's in an envelope (containing a photo of Diavolo) he is lead to believe it is only a bit of rubbish as Doppio manages to stick the photograph to the bottom of his foot with his own blood.

During the fight with Risotto, Diavolo tells Doppio that he has been loaned King Crimson's power in an attempt to encourage him to fight back. There is, however, no confirmed way of loaning stands other than Whitesnake's power, which indicates that Doppio could either use the whole of King Crimson from the start or his willpower was only strong enough to use Epitaph and one of King Crimson's arms. Doppio shows great determination to defeat Risotto despite his fear and despite Diavolo warning him to escape. He also proves himself to be very resourceful, using Narancia's Aerosmith and King Crimson in combination to shoot and kill Risotto.

Upon arriving in Rome, Doppio is taken hostage by Secco, who is fighting Buccellati. As neither of them recognise him, Buccellati saves him by placing a zipper on him to punch through him and kill Secco without hurting him. As Buccellati had lost his sight and hearing Doppio easily fooled him into believing he was Trish, allowing him to be lead straight to Polnareff who was obviously wary of him.

When Silver Chariot Requiem swapped the souls of the inhabitants of Rome his soul got switched into Buccellati's body, with Buccellati's soul going to Diavolo's body. After waking up from Silver Chariot Requiem's ability and standing, he was shot by Mista using Trish's body. Though Mista claimed his attack was not enough to kill him, Doppio died nonetheless.
