Green Dolphin Street Prison (グリーン・ドルフィン・ストリート刑務所, Gurīn Dorufin Sutorīto Keimusho), also known as G.D. st. Jail (G.D.st.刑務所, G.D.st. Keimusho), and The Aquarium ((すい)(ぞく)(かん), Suizokukan),[1] is a fictional unisex prison located in the United States, Port St. Lucie, Florida. It is the main setting of the first part of Stone Ocean.

Summary

Green Dolphin Street Prison is a maximum security prison facility, unique in the fact that it is built offshore on an island, preventing its detainee from ever escaping to the mainland. Because of this, it is also known as "The Aquarium." While such a concept for a detainment facility has been used before the introduction of Green Dolphin Street, the prison boasts a large property area, and due to the rather rough and humid Florida environment and ecosystem, as well as the well-equipped and funded facility, the detainees will not find escape possible.

The prison represents an ideal containment center focusing on the importance of freedom and equality. Prisoners are allowed to walk around the campus and commit to their own activities within the allowed areas. Privileges, such as the use of the phone, taking a shower, reading a book, and watching TV are permitted, and even further privileges, such as work and an integrated university for studying are present. Money earned through said work can be used to purchase bonus vanity items and decorations at a gift shop. However, the prison does have various restrictions, such as the prohibition of metallic objects. Prisoners must also shave their heads and follow curfew, and they are also prohibited from freely moving between gendered wings, though this can all be bypassed by bribing the prison staff.

Despite its stated commitment to rehabilitation, Green Dolphin Street engages in wildly inhumane practices, having solitary confinement conditions so restrictive they border on torture, and requiring prisoners who work outdoors to wear proximity activated explosive devices. The staff is also consistently corrupt and abusive, shaking inmates down for money and hazing newcomers. The prison's internal economy is run almost entirely on bribes - money is what maintains social status, grants reasonable access to privileges and allows one to traverse the prison grounds more easily.

Little is known about the prison's history. One notable inmate has been incarcerated in Green Dolphin Street for at least 40 years. In 1984, the prison caught fire, resulting in major renovations. One of the rooms destroyed in the fire still lingers as a ghost due to an ability belonging to a child of a dead inmate. By 2011, the chaplain Enrico Pucci is the longest residing staff member of the prison. Pucci's 8 years of employment at Green Dolphin Street are marked by a supernatural conspiracy, which has caused an uptick in Stand activity inside the prison. Outside of Pucci's own influence, both the staff and the prisoner population happen to include several natural Stand users.

Mysteries

According to one of the inmates, the prison has several "mysteries". She calls them "The Seven Wonders of Prison", although only four of them are mentioned.

  • Even though there should be one meal per person, the number of meals does not match the number of prisoners.[2]
  • Lunch boxes will be conveniently sold out when it's someone's turn to get one.[2]
  • Using the phones requires a reservation or prisoners will have to buy the spot. It usually takes a month or more of waiting to use the phones.[3]
  • The prison has a shop that sells branded items like Rolex watches and Louis Vuitton bags.[4]

Staff

Green Dolphin Street Prison has a full staff of prison guards, and other support workers from doctors to a prison priest. Most of them disdain the prisoners because of the crimes they've committed and are abusive to a high degree. Due to the dangerousness of the prison's occupants, the guards are extremely trigger-happy as well and don't hesitate to shoot prisoners caught in unauthorized areas. They are also somewhat professional when it comes to alerts, quickly donning full riot control gear and coming in numbers to quell any uprising, which has led to a general state of quietness among prisoners.

On the other hand, the staff is also very corrupt and regularly allows prisoners to break the rules of the facility in exchange for monetary bribes.

Notable Inmates

Most of the inmates have been rightfully sentenced to prison for various heinous crimes, which are reflected in their general demeanor. Almost all inmates are hardened criminals who will use violence to fulfill their goals. Moreover, many of them are also unstable, being psychotic or having other mental afflictions. Because of a lack of oversight, most inmates are left to their own devices, leading to a state in which it is easy for bullies to prey on the weakest among them.

Inmates unable to coexist with others or requiring extra protection are kept in a separate Ultra Security House Unit, making it a place for the prison's both saddest and most dangerous outcasts.

Due to Enrico Pucci's DISCs and the Arrow, a good number of inmates have become Stand users.

Video Games

Different areas of Green Dolphin Street Prison appear as battle stages in All-Star Battle, Eyes of Heaven and All-Star Battle R. In All-Star Battle, the stage is set in the prison courtyard; in Eyes of Heaven, the stage is instead set within the grounds of the female ward. All-Star Battle R adds a stage set in the marshes near the prison farmhouse.

  • Stage Gimmick 1: Money can be found scattered across the stage. If a combatant gathers enough money, they can pay Gwess to have Goo Goo Dolls shrink their opponents. Shrunken characters take more damage, move slower, and are unable to attack or guard, but are able to enter grates throughout the map in order to teleport and escape attackers.
  • Stage Gimmick 2: Emporio frequently appears in various trash cans around the stage and offers his hand, allowing combatants to teleport between trash cans via Burning Down the House.
  • Stage Gimmick 3: Limp Bizkit occasionally summons an invisible zombie alligator onto the stage, attacking anyone in its way. The alligator has its own health bar and can be defeated.

Trivia

  • Although Green Dolphin Street is technically a prison, its branding and inmate uniforms feature the name "G.D. st. JAIL".

Note

  1. Emporio Alnino was born inside the prison, but is not an inmate himself.
  2. The unnamed Tanned Prisoner is really a body, made from corpses of two prisoners, controlled by Foo Fighters.
