The game's graphics can be compared to other cel-shaded games of the PS2 era like Jet Set Radio. The developer, Capcom, utilized a game engine called "Artistoon" in order to create a graphical style similar to Araki's art style in the manga.
GioGio's Bizarre Adventure (ジョジョの奇妙な冒険 黄金のThe game was set to be released worldwide on October 2002, but was canceled due to unknown reasons.
Most of GioGio's Bizarre Adventure's gameplay takes place in the form of hand-to-hand combat. All battles are fought 1v1, with every battle being an equivalent to a boss fight. The Stands aid the characters in battle by giving them combat abilities, as well as special attacks. Puzzles are also a part of the game, requiring the use of Stands in order to solve them.
The player must learn an opponent's moves and attack patterns in order to properly find an opening and attack. They can deliver melee attacks, use a character-exclusive special ability, or summon their Stand to attack. Stand barrages and the like are referred to in-game as a "Stand Shoot". All Stand Shoot attacks can be charged to increase their duration and eventually allow the player to attack separate from their Stand, opening up opportunities to create combos. Health cannot be restored in any matter other than Secret Factors, requiring a finer degree of skill from the player than other games of a similar genre in order to succeed.
As long as a character's Stand is on, a Stand Gauge above the player's health will drain. Actions such as taking damage or blocking attacks while a Stand is on will also decrease the meter. A Stand Break occurs if the gauge is depleted, leaving the player character unable to summon their Stand until the gauge refills, along with other situational disadvantages.
Chapters have a letter grading based on the performance of the player, with up to 200 "GioGio Points" to be earned per chapter and 10,200 GioGio Points to be earned in the entire game. A rank is lost with every 25 points missing, from S at 200 - 190 points, A at 189 - 176, all the way to E at 100 and below. All Secret Factors on a level collectively add up to 100 GioGio Points and are added with the percentage of the player's remaining health to make up to 200.
A main notable feature is the activation of Secret Factors, various interaction activated elements scattered throughout each scenario that the player progresses to as the game goes on. Considered as side-objectives, chapters can have anywhere between none to four Secret Factors to be done. As the game itself is adapted nearly entirely from the manga, playing out the scenario akin to the official canon will activate these factors, and their effects: giving power-ups to health, Stand endurance, and strength to the character, as well as heavily influencing chapter grading. A counter over the heart next to the player's health displays the Secret Factor level, with 10 being the maximum; At max, the health and Stand gauges will have doubled in length. There are multiple occasions where Secret Factors must be done in a specific order to achieve them all. Many Secret Factors also give the player advantages ranging from invulnerability to/disabling certain enemy attacks to outright winning the battle instantly. They are a unique feature that also celebrates the game's source material and reward fans and readers of the series.
Following the events of GioGio's Bizarre Adventure, the game's main mode has 22 chapters (21 playable and only 1 featuring a full cutscene). In each chapter, the player faces a different opponent.
The player plays Giorno and fights Bucciarati as a tutorial during which he is taught how to attack, dodge or summon his Stand. Lastly, it taught the player about Secret Factors.
Giorno and Bucciarati end in a square and Bucciarati teleports around with zippers. Giorno must find Bucciarati and damage him enough to activate a cutscene where he hides in a civilian. Giorno then finds the civilian and beat Bucciarati. A cutscene shows Giorno and Bucciarati make peace as both find out they hate the drug trade. Thus Bucciarati agrees to let Giorno infiltrate his gang, Passione.
Giorno must defeat Black Sabbath in the courtyard. However, the fight is made difficult as Black Sabbath hides in the shadows cast by an object and may grab Giorno to damage him. Birds occasionally fly across the map, and Black Sabbath may attack from their shadows. Once Black Sabbath is beaten, it is then shown being disintegrated by sunlight. Later, Giorno officially joins Passione. However, Giorno also makes Polpo kill himself by eating a gun turned into a banana as revenge for a janitor Black Sabbath killed.
The player now controls Narancia and must defeat Formaggio. The player can send out Aerosmith and control the plane, gaining its radar but making Narancia stationary. The fight is made difficult because Formaggio can shrink and hide in the arena. Moreover, if Little Feet hits Narancia, he gets shrunken and must now evade Formaggio's attacks. Once beaten, a cutscene will activate where Narnacia shoots Formaggio to death. However, more of the assassins are coming.
The player now controls Fugo without his Stand and must avoid being defeated for a full two minutes. However, the controls for the Illuso levels are inverted as Fugo is inside a mirror. This only changes the Left and Right directions, all other actions are the same. If the player survives 2 minutes, the level ends.
The objective of the fight is to get Illuso down to the amount of Health indicated on the Health bar. The fight is made difficult as Abbacchio is trapped in the mirror world with inverted controls while Moody Blues is in the real world. Illuso regularly switches between the two, forcing changes in gameplay.
The player controls Fugo again and Purple Haze. He must now properly defeat Illuso. However, Illuso again switches between the normal and mirror worlds, forcing the controls to be inverted regularly. When controlling Purple Haze, the player must manage its six virus capsules. After the battle, Fugo is concerned for Giorno but the latter manages to create a cure from a snake he's created. Fugo is impressed.
The player now controls Bucciarati and Sticky Fingers and must simply defeat Prosciutto. However, Prosciutto and The Grateful Dead can also attack. Moreover, The Grateful Dead's aging power slowly saps Bucciarati's health.
The player controls Bucciarati and must defeat Pesci. Pesci uses Beach Boy his fishing rod Stand; it allows him to launch a hook and possibly hit Bucciarati from afar. Occasionally, Prosciutto intervenes and saps Bucciarati's health with The Grateful Dead. When the fight ends, Bucciarati performs defeats Pesci with his iconic Stand Cry.
Ghiacchio in his ice skates toward Giorno and Mista's car. The player controls Mista on top of the car and must aim and shoot at Ghiaccio to stop him from reaching the car. If Ghiaccio reaches, the car, he will damage it. Moreover, Mista must manage his ammunition in the revolver as well as his Sex Pistols. If he lasts two minutes, the level is won.
The player still controls Mista with Sex Pistols and must defeat Ghiaccio. However, Ghiaccio is invulnerable from the front and must be shot in the back. Thankfully Ghiaccio regularly charges at Mista and can miss, allowing Mista to shoot. Once his health bar is depleted enough, Ghiaccio activates White Album Gently Weeps and can now rebound bullets back at Mista. However, Mista can also shoot the lamp posts, creating spikes he can send Ghiaccio into. Once the fight is over, Giorno intervenes to finish off Ghiaccio and heal Mista. A humorous scene follows as Narancia arrives and thinks the two are in an intimate moment.
The player controls Bucciarati and must survive the Boss and his King Crimson for a minute in the crypt. The Boss can teleport near Bucciarati and King Crimson can send rock debris at him. After the minute is up, the level ends.
The player controls Bucciarati again and now damage the Boss. When he depletes enough of the Boss' health, then the level ends. Bucciarati and Trish eventually escape the crypt, but Bucciarati dies from his wound and is then somewhat resurrected. Bucciarati then tells his team that he's rebelled against the Boss, but most of his squad nonetheless end up joining him. However, they cannot fight the Boss head-on. Trish tells her that she knows her father comes from Sardegna and thus the team takes a plane to travel here and uncover the Boss' identity.
The player now controls Trish. She must reach the brooch but Notorious B.I.G is in the way. As the Stand attacks moving objects, she must distract it with automatic reclining seats while advancing slowly toward the brooch. Once Trish reaches the brooch, Notorious B.I.G attacks her but Spice Girl appears to protect her User. Now the player controls Trish with Spice Girl and must defeat Notorious B.I.G.
The player controls Trish and Spice Girl again and must keep Notorious B.I.G from invading the whole cabin for two minutes. To do so, she can attack the enemy Stand but must avoid its attacks. Once the time is up, Trish detaches the cockpit from the crashing plane and softens it, turning it into a parachute. Notorious B.I.G is defeated when the plane explodes and the team reaches Sardegna.
There are no Secret Factors in this level, as this Chapter is cutscene only
The player now controls Mista and must reach the top of a long series of stairs. However, if he goes down, then the mold activates and damages his health bar. Moreover, Secco chases after Mista and attacks him. If Secco can grab Mista, then he drags it to a lower level in the stairs, damaging him.
The player controls Giorno and Gold Experience and must defeat Cioccolata and Green Day. As Giorno fights Cioccolata, Green Day roams around the arena, leaving a trail of mold that damages Giorno. Moreover, Cioccolata can send his body parts to attack Giorno. Once the battle is over, Giorno Stand rushes Cioccolata and finishes his off.
The player now controls Bucciarati and must defeat Secco. However, the fight is made difficult as Secco can dive underground and reappear from anywhere in the arena, making him difficult to even reach. Once the battle is over, Secco meets Doppio and tries to take him hostage and is still defeated.
The player controls Polnareff in his wheelchair and must deplete enough of Diavolo's health. However, Diavolo can erase time with King Crimson, translated as Polnareff being slowed while Diavolo is able to approach Polnareff safely. Once the battle is over, Polnareff pricks Silver Chariot with the Arrow but Diavolo kills him. But then Chariot Requiem appears and forces everyone to sleep. Once the characters wake up, they realize their souls have switched bodies and meet Polnareff in the turtle's body. Bruno in Diavolo's body appears.
The player finally controls Giorno and Gold Experience Requiem. He must defeat Diavolo, who can still erase time. When activated it slows down Giorno, while Diavolo stays the same speed. However, Gold Experience Requiem is not affected. Once Diavolo's health bar is depleted, the fight is won. Gold Experience sends Diavolo into the river. Diavolo manages to swim back to the shores but then notices that he's been stabbed, and dies. But wakes up alive in a City. He realizes that somehow, he keeps dying and waking up elsewhere only to be killed again, he figures this is Gold Experience Requiems ability, and screams out in fear at a small Girl to stay away from him. Giorno, Mista, and Trish are sure of their victory and now head to the Colosseum. But only Giorno is aware Bucciarati has died for good. Polnareff now resides in the turtle and follows Giorno, acting as the guardian of the Arrow. At the end, Giorno becomes the Boss.

The game was set to be released worldwide on October 2002 and was presented at Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2002, titled simply as GioGio's Bizarre Adventure. The release was eventually canceled due to unknown reasons.
It would not be until JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle from CyberConnect2 and Bandai Namco that another JoJo game would see an international release, the first being Heritage for the Future, also a Capcom product.
A fan-initiated translation project was developed to completely translate the Capcom game into English. The English patch is a combined effort of the groups Joey Jojo's Wacky Trip and JoJo's Colored Adventure Team.[1] It was released on October 20, 2018.[2]
On release, Famitsu magazine scored the game a 31 out of 40.
