Joseph Joestar of New York, Part 3 (ニューヨークのジョセフ・ジョースター その③, Nyū Yōku no Josefu Jōsutā Sono 3), originally Painful News (悲痛なしらせ, Hitsū na Shirase) in the WSJ and tankobon releases, is the third chapter of Battle Tendency and the forty-seventh chapter of the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga.

Summary

Back in New York, Joseph is almost run over by a taxi while crossing the road. He starts threatening the driver but is cut short when his grandmother, Erina Joestar, and Smokey ask what he is doing. Joseph quickly covers up the situation by saying he hailed them a taxi. The three of them get in and head to a restaurant.

On the way, Smokey learns that Joseph is the grandson of Jonathan Joestar, and the Joestar men have a tendency to live short lives. Joseph asks about Erina's relationship with Speedwagon, implying that they might have been romantically involved, and Erina responds by beating him with her umbrella. Meanwhile, Smokey ponders on the Joestar Family's past, commenting that Joseph lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his grandmother concluding on both Joseph's and Erina's kindness.

At a restaurant, a racist brass knuckles-bearing gangster discriminately insults Smokey. At Erina's behest, Joseph confronts and defeats him easily, demonstrating his uncanny skill at observing his opponent and predicting what they will do. The gangster's companion reveals himself to be an agent sent from the Speedwagon Foundation and tells Joseph that Speedwagon has been killed.
