With the sun shining on [[Santana]] he begins to crumble, and as [[Joseph]] starts to congratulate Stroheim, Santana enters [[Stroheim]]’s body through his stubbed leg to escape the sun. Desperate to kill Santana, however, [[Rudol von Stroheim|Stroheim]] prepares to blow both of them up with a grenade and pulls its pin. Before he does so, Stroheim tells Joseph that there are other “[[Pillar Men]]” and Stroheim's division was sent to awaken Santana to discover another weakness besides the sun. Stroheim tells Joseph to go to Rome where he will meet someone very important. The grenade explodes, leaving Joseph with more questions than answers.

Desperate to kill Santana, however, Stroheim prepares to blow both of them up with a grenade and pulls its pin. Before he does so, Stroheim tells Joseph that there are other [[Pillar Men]] and that Stroheim's division was sent to awaken Santana to discover another weakness besides the sun. Santana, exposed to the sun, makes a last ditch effort to get to a nearby well, tackling Joseph into it too. This proves futile, as the time is noon and the sun is shining directly above the well. The light, reflected in the water's surface, hits Santana from both sides and petrifies him.
