J. Geil (J・ガイル, Jei Gairu) is a minor antagonist appearing in Stardust Crusaders.
J. Geil is an assassin, son of DIO's advisor Enya the Hag, sent alongside Hol Horse to kill the Joestar Group. He also is the murderer of Sherry Polnareff and the man Jean Pierre Polnareff seeks revenge from.
Appearance/Personality
J. Geil spends most of his time hiding from plain sight, preferring to have a partner in which to rely on. This made him a perfect candidate for Hol Horse, who liked him and believed that they should work in pairs. J. Geil would hide in the shadows while Horse broke the glass needed for his Stand to work; occasionally they would do a combination attack, such as Hol Horse breaking glass and J. Geil attacking while Hol Horse shot a bullet from his Stand, Emperor, locking the enemy into a mortal circle. He shared a special link to his mother, who received the same injuries he had moments before dying. He had a twisted and perverted personality, raping many girls during his life.
Like his mother he had a deformity that gave him two right hands. In the past he had long hair and a muscular body, but now is bald and is seen hardly able to stand up, likely due to age.
Synopsis
History
J. Geil implied to have raped numerous girls in his lifetime, claiming they have "loved and admired" him. While in France, J. Geil encountered Sherry Polnareff and her friend when they saw him standing in the rain without getting wet. J. Geil proceeded to rape Sherry and then strangled her to death. Sherry's friend escaped with her life, telling Sherry's brother Jean Pierre Polnareff of what occurred. Believing the girl's testimony due to his own Stand ability, though she only saw his two right hands, Polnareff swore to track down the Stand user and avenge his sister.
Stardust Crusaders
When the Joestar Group arrive to Calcutta, the group having learned of his name from Jotaro Kujo interrogating Rubber Soul, J. Geil makes himself known to Polnareff by making his Stand appear in front of Frenchman to force him into leaving the group and lure him into a trap he and his partner Hol Horse set up. After a short confrontation between Polnareff and Hol Horse while J. Geil concealed his presence and acts through his Stand Hanged Man, Muhammad Avdol comes to Polnareff's aid before he is quickly disposed when J. Geil has his Stand stab Avdol in the back and hold him so he can be hit by a bullet from Hol Horse's Emperor Stand.
Polnareff is blinded by anger as he attempts to have his Silver Chariot attack Hanged Man, only to realize that he cannot harm a reflection as Noriaki Kakyoin manages to save him in a jeep. However, Hanged Man follows them and destroys the vehicle. At this point, Polnareff deduces that J. Geil's Stand is light-based and moves at the speed of light into any reflection to attack from. Having guessed its location and trajectory, forcing it to move by kicking sand in a boy's eyes, Polnareff arranged his Silver Chariot to intercept the Stand and wound it, revealing J. Geil's position. But J. Geil wounded a nearby beggar with similar wounds to catch Polnareff off-guard
Explaining that he long knew of his Stand's weakness, J. Geil tricks a group of beggars to surround Polnareff and Kakyoin so they cannot anticipate his Stand's pattern of attack. To add further insult while intending to kill him while taunting his failed attempt to avenge Sherry, J. Geil asks Polnareff to get the details of his sister's death from her. But Kakyoin spoils the scheme by having the beggars all focus on a gold coin, allowing Polnareff to strike the final blow on Hanged Man when it travels into the coin's reflection. A dying J. Geil attempts to flee, but Polnareff insists to make a pin cushion out of the assassin before letting him die. The force of Silver Chariot's attack was enough to knock J. Geil into the air before he is lodged upside-down on a gate in a death befitting a hanged man.
Abilities
Main article: Hanged Man
Hanged Man is a Stand made of light which travels from one reflective surface to another and can attack someone's reflection, harming the true person as well.
In Video Games
JoJo RPG (SFC)
The events from "Emperor and the Hanged Man" take place in the game with no different (being one of the few story arcs without drastic changes). J. Geil appears as the last enemy faced in this arc story.
Heritage for the Future (PS1/DC/Arcade)
J. Geil himself appears on the last cutscene within his Chapter in Super Story. His Stand, Hanged Man, is used as part of Hol Horse's moveset. As a special move, Hanged Man can appear from the ground and grab the opponent, rendering them unable to move. As part of one of Hol Horse's Super Comboes, he'll crawl out of the ground and stab the opponent in the back and deal massive damage, but only if the opponent is caught in one of the three cracks that Hol Horse shoots into the camera screen.
Trivia
- In the First Edition of the Italian version of the manga, J. Geil actually had two left hands. This happened because in the 90s, manga chapters were mirror-printed in Italy, a standard procedure made to appeal the public accustomed to Western comics. From Vento Aureo onwards, mirror-printing ceased, therefore in the new Italian version of Part 3, J. Geil has two right hands.
