Ebony Devil (悪魔(エボニーデビル), Ebonī Debiru) is the Stand of Devo featured in Part III: Stardust Crusaders.

Appearance/Personality

Ebony Devil has two distinct appearances. The first appearance is bound to its user Devo himself, appearing as part of his body. It has the appearance of a Indian wood carving with two disks in front of the chest and holding a dagger in its hand. The second is once its effect activates, it is bound into a small doll, probably made by Devo himself due to its appearance, that appears to be a combination of a child-like doll and a voodoo doll.

Like the Stand Death 13 Ebony Devil possesses a high learning potential and rarely takes direct commands, instead relying on its own sadistic personality to do as its master commands. Ebony Devil is a simple stand in use and power, but by no means does that make it weak.

Ebony Devil doll form
Ebony Devil is based on the ancient Sardinian dolls known as "bronzetti", specifically "The Warrior", a small, bronze statue. It represents the Tarot Card The Devil.

Abilities

Hatred Amplification: Ebony Devil's power activates once Devo is hit by his foe. It then grows more powerful depending on the hatred his foe put into that strike. It then can be bound to something to attack on its own. It begins to attack its foe, starting quietly and escaping its opponent's notice, before causing more and more misfortune as necessary. This hatred seems to extend beyond just the person who attacked, but instead includes anyone who might try to help Ebony Devil's target, as shown when it sliced off the face of a bellhop who was trying to help Polnareff.

Trivia

  • According to JOJOVELLER, the concept of the stand is inspired by the Child's Play horror movies while the puppet is an African voodoo puppet of primitive style.
  • Ebony Devil (not the doll) is deliberately inspired by a bronze sculpture with four eyes and four arms, found in Sardinia and built during the nuragic civilization (Bronze Age).
