Path to Nowhere (無期迷途, Wúqí Mítú) is a Chinese mobile game for Android and iOS developed by Studio MBCC and AISNO Games. It released in China on August 11, 2022 and worldwide on October 27, 2022.

On January 26, 2024, a collaboration with the anime JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean was announced for the Chinese version of the game.[1] The event ran from April 30, 2024 to May 16, 2024. A second event with Stone Ocean was announced on November 21, 2024 in a special livestream.[2][3]

Summary

Gameplay

Path to Nowhere is a real-time tower defense gacha game. Players assume the role of the "Chief", a commander of the Minos Bureau of Crisis Control (MBCC), who can either be male or female depending on the player's choice. They have the unique ability to control any "Sinner"[a] (unlockable characters) in the game through their innate powers known as "Shackles". Sinners are powerful criminals who possess supernatural powers. Over time, players can "Arrest" new Sinners (via banner pulls) and manage them in Jail (Team Management mode). Players form their squads using the Sinners they've arrested to maintain order in the city. The abilities of each Sinner are categorized based on their Tendencies and personal characteristics: Endura, Fury, Umbra, Reticle, Arcane, and Catalyst. Their abilities range from dealing more damage to blocking more units or healing allies.

Tendency is a categorization for Sinners based on the different kinds of abilities they possess.

Sinners in this category are perceptive and observant, highly attuned to people's feelings. They are able to access and influence the feelings of those around them.
Low in health and damage but they are supporters, either healing, providing damage boosts, or other effects.
Arcane
Sinners in this category have an extreme personality and active imagination. They are able to turn what they imagine into reality, sometimes unknowingly, creating supernatural phenomena that defy the laws of physics.
High magic damage output but weak basic attacks and low health.
Fury
Sinners in this category have a strong sense of self and despise any form of restraint. They have a burning desire to tear everything down, even if it means the destruction of their own bodies.
Medium to high damage output along with good enough health to tank damage. Usually fights close-range.
Endura
Sinners in this category are tenacious to a fault. They have a tremendous amount of stamina and a great sense of responsibility, ready to tackle any danger or resistance that comes their way when they are trying to reach a goal or keep a promise.
Tanks that have high defense and can usually block 2 enemies at the same time.
Reticle
Sinners in this category have great powers of concentration. They can focus on a target for a long period of time, and by doing so, they can have a thorough and accurate understanding of their target, which, in turn, allows them to manipulate the target.
Strong, long-range continuous DPS attacks but low health.
Umbra
Sinners in this category are uncannily intuitive; they are guided by intuitions when it comes time to make a decision. They loathe being stuck in a rut and tend to break the status quo, both internally and externally.
Highly mobile and can deal effective damage, usually great at corebreaking.

Libram

Sinners are also sorted by their history and personality in alignments called Librams. There are fifteen Librams, which are mostly based on the Nine Circles of Hell from Dante's Inferno and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The "Infinite" Libram is currently only used for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure characters.

Plot

Path to Nowhere takes place in a timeline called "Nightfall" (N.F.), where in its first year, an unidentified astronomical object fell into the middle of a desert and caused a global catastrophe. Consequently, numerous unprecedented severe natural disasters frequently occurred and the living environment for humans rapidly deteriorated. The declining population and competition for resources led to wars between nations. In N.F. 14, a "Nightfall Declaration" was issued and the United Nations was dissolved. In around N.F. 21, Dr. Keylan discovered a resource known as a "Hypercube" which protects them against disasters and used it to contain the catastrophe. Under Dr. Keylan's facilitation, the nations signed the EDGE (Exploration, Defense, and Governance Entente). They then founded "DisCity", where the world's only Hypercube-mining area was located, and gradually transformed the city into a prosperous megalopolis.[4]

However, in N.F. 84, the fallen meteorite had formed a ring-shaped mutation zone, known as the "Black Ring," in which the rules of physics do not apply. Humans who approached the Black Ring suffered from severe mental contamination referred to as "Mania", having symptoms such as mania, paranoia, hallucinations, and an abnormal increase in physical strength. There were severe cases where some victims completely lost their consciousness and physically transformed into monsters known as "Corruptors". Thus, the government strictly blockaded the Black Ring and its surroundings to prevent the contamination from spreading further.[4]

A minority of individuals infected with "Mania" acquired strong special powers from the mutations. They are known as "Sinners", who show a higher severity of mental mutation than average yet retain their consciousness and do not transform into Corruptors. Since they are far stronger than ordinary humans, the government considers them a serious threat to society and set up the Minos Bureau of Crisis Control to hold the Sinners in custody and manage them.[4]

The current setting of the game is in the year N.F.112.[5]

Stone Ocean Collaboration

On January 26, 2024, a collaboration with the anime Stone Ocean was announced during a live broadcast to celebrate the New Year.[1] AISNO Games released a trailer for the collaboration and the event details on April 20, 2024. The event ran from April 30, 2024 to May 16, 2024. It added three playable characters, Jolyne Cujoh, Foo Fighters, and Weather Report. [6]

The event included a unique ending credits scene sang by Alice Risolino, titled "Choose a Day to Fly Far Away". It played after completing the Stone Ocean story.

Into the Blue

GoGo's Daily Adventure

The limited time "Into the Blue" event which ran from June 27, 2024 to July 11, 2024 in the Chinese version and September 10, 2024 to September 24, 2024 in the global version included a reference to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. In the story, the character Summer stated "And when I get tired, I can just lie on the beach and flip through the original edition of GoGo's Daily Adventure." Her Japanese dialogue also included her saying that it's "the greatest high", quoting DIO.

"Stone Ocean" Share and Support Event

Players can send out invitations to play with other players to get selector vouchers, which can be used for obtaining high-risk (A-rank) prisoners "F.F." and "Weather Report" once the collaboration starts. If the person invited is a new or returning player, an additional 100 Hypercubes will be received.

"Ocean of Freedom" Collaboration Event

Unlock Conditions: Clear Chapter Re1-9 "Reunion at the Other Side"
During the event, obtain activity tokens "Crumpled Bills" through experiencing event stages, defeating bosses, completing Foundation Commission tasks, sweeping mainline dungeons, etc., to win big rewards such as high-risk level (A-rank) prisoners "Weather Report" or "F.F." Selector Vouchers, Consciousness Crystals, Warrants, and Hypercubes!

"Prisoners of the Broken Realm" Collaboration Search Event
Date: April 30, 2024 - May 16, 2024 9:59
During the event, the chance of finding limited-time prisoner "Jolyne Cujoh" or high-risk (A-rank) prisoners, "Weather Report" or "F.F.", will be increased! Doing the collaboration search 10 times will guarantee obtaining a high-risk (A-rank) prisoner or extreme-risk (S-Rank) prisoner, and anytime a high-risk (A-rank) prisoner or extreme-risk (S-rank) prisoner is obtained, the counter resets.

"The Visitor from Another Realm" Login Event

Players can receive exclusive login rewards "Green Dolphin Pass x10" on the event page by logging in. The "Green Dolphin Pass" can only be used for the collaboration search event "Prisoners of the Broken Realm" and will expire on May 16 at 09:59.

"Plan to Stay Hydrated" Login Event

During the event, players can receive a limited avatar frame "Foo Fighters" and Green Dolphin Pass ×10 by logging in for 7 days in a row.

"Suspect Pursuit Trail" Event

During the event, the new extreme-risk (S-rank) prisoner "Jolyne Cujoh" and high-risk (A-rank) prisoners "Weather Report" and "F.F." are added. Participate in the challenge and clear it to receive Hypercube rewards.
