History
Steel Ball Run
The eleven men are hired by Funny Valentine after Sandman's defeat. They tail Gyro and Johnny and proved to be skillful riders and gunmen. The men follow Johnny and Gyro, who are in a rush to spend all that they have gotten from Sugar Mountain, into a bar where a shootout soon begins.[1] Though they come close to cornering and killing the protagonists, many of them are killed at the hands of the other gamblers who were given several million dollars by Gyro to protect them.
Upon leaving the bar, Gyro begins sporadically transforming into a part of the tree that imprisoned Sugar Mountain and the two realize they have to give up the Corpse Part in order to avoid the curse. Despite seeing his friend's condition, Johnny is at first reluctant to give up something so valuable. However, he ultimately initiates a trade with the last of the Eleven men; a wine bottle for the ears and the right arm that they discovered. While still doubting Johnny's sincerity, he quickly rides away with the items to avoid any further confrontation.[2]
